Welp... The WWE wishes Frederick Rosser III (aka Darren Young) the best of luck in his future endeavors. PR Nightmare. "WWE releases gay wrestler for standing up to company for performing in anti-gay city" Tmz would have a field day with something like that

The WWE shouldn't keep D Young employed just because he's gay, they should either use him or release him.

I can see what he means in a way, but when you're a low level employee like him you need to shut your mouth and do your job.
Fortunately for him, coming out has given him job security so this'll all blow over and he'll cash his check again.

you need to shut your mouth and do your job. But he can't do his job because they are in a city he can't be in. Same with the women.

As many have said, good for him but that's the risk you run with Twitter, isn't it...

I wonder how long this thread will last before it has to be locked.....just waiting for the "shatterpoint comment" to show up.....wonder what side of the debate it comes from this time?

WWE has released a statement. Sounds fair enough to me. I'm still trying to figure out why the PTP were split up......they really should reunite these two and give them something to do.

First of all, it's cool to stand for something. "Or you'll fall for anything" which has been stated quite a bit already.
Second, it always confuses me (no, not really) when someone that cries for tolerance and respect tells someone with a different opinion about something else to not have kids.
Here's what I've seen. A handful of people cry foul when musicians like Beyoncé and Madona go to countries like Iran and North Korea to play for the dictators that run them and the fans of those musicians tell them to quit whining about a non-issue.
"but King, that has nothing to do with a wrestling or figure topic" you might say. Well, it does, but I'll let you think about that on your own and raise this question:
Our beloved figures come from China out of shops where people are paid pennies an hour to assemble and package these things. If they were paid fair wages a basic might cost $70 or more. Does that warrant an outcry, too?

WWE are a business and their goal is to make money, regardless of a country's morals. I don't see a problem with them going to Abu Dhabi. Why should their laws stop their citizens from watching a WWE show?
I don't want to say 'get over it Darren' but from WWE's perspective, it's easy to see why they'd go over there.

Props to Darren Young for speaking out. It's pretty hypocritical for the WWE to run all these "NOH8" be a star and "look at us, we're so progressive, we even have a gay one!" stunts and then turn around and gladly do business in oppressive hellholes where you'll be thrown in prison for existing while homosexual.

One thing I believe that hasn't been mentioned is that wrestlers make a a down side (minimum) contract and get paid based upon what shows they work and what pay per views they are on. Darren has been working house shows, so it's not just a matter of not performing cause he loves wrestling and freedom, it's because he and the divas aren't getting a paycheck that weekend as they normally would. Imagine if one day your boss came in and said "we have a client that doesn't like (insert your gender, race etc)" so we are sending you home for 3 days without pay". How would you feel?

I understand why Darren Young would be upset that WWE would go to a country with those laws and good for him for expressing his views. However, Darren Young/Fred Rosser should also understand that WWE is a business and their goal is to make money, even if it means they'll go to a country where women and gays would get arrested if they perform.

But he can't do his job because they are in a city he can't be in. Same with the women. If it's his job to sit at home while they're putting on a show in the stone age then so be it. This is an absolutely fair point. I understand that WWE likes money, I like money, but they're clearly saying their moral compass is secondary to making money and DY is really just calling them out on it. I think we know the NOH8 stuff is crap. Vince is a bully, he had a kiss my ass club for christ's sake and he's crossed every line and boundary cable TV has set for him. It just feels sleazy when they do this kind of thing imo. That's not to say I don't get it, and I don't think Young has even remotely enough value to the company to make a difference, but I do admire him for feeling this way and not sitting on his hands about it. What Darren Young did as a gay man in a profession filled with alpha males, at least as perceived by the viewing audience, was bold. Yes, it's still entertainment and the entertainment world is littered with plenty of gay men and women, but wrestling is still viewed as NASCAR entertainment to people who don't really watch it, and I think it's fair to say that stereotype still exists if you've ever been to an Indie show, anywhere. He's a black gay man in a world where fans traditionally like beer chugging rednecks and half naked, or all naked, women. If he was a better talent, I think he would be making great strides for the gay community in sports. Unfortunately he's not very good and the one time I cared about him as a member of the PTPs WWE split them up. So circling back to what Anvil said, he's kind of in a position, at least right now, where he needs to relax for the sake of his job. I know they won't fire him, and I know he's not doing anything right now, so he seemingly has nothing to lose, but his situation is unique and it's something WWE will likely use at some point. Again, I actually agree with Young here. After reading that statement though it's clear WWE understands his frustration, I'm sure plenty of people within WWE agree and feel that way, but they can't let that stop business. I also think it's fair to say that if Young was being used more prominently on tv that he probably would have refrained from these kind of comments. There is probably some frustration going on in that regard, which would be understandable.

Good for him.
All I know is, I wouldn't wanna live in a country where Nikki Bella and Paige can't wear as little as they do.

Can't wait for 'Darren Young: Militant Gay' to make it to TV. Will Pat Patterson be his manager?
