Read the article again. Martha DOES NOT approve.

I really have no understanding left for Martha, just seems hateful now, I don't want to know about her right to be resentful and impede a legacy. Don't really care what her intentions are either. Get over it for the sake of your kids and the memory of Owen. Worse stuff has happened since then, like Benoit, Bret is on a healthier path than Martha now. Horrible disaster for sure, but Owen's work should be honored and remembered, and she wants to keep his memory all to herself it seems.
So do they have the rights to do this or is she going to sue?

WWE has the rights to all the footage, but she'll probably threaten to sue...and WWE will probably back off.

Without Martha being on board this will never see the light of day.

Martha Hart is an incredibly selfish b*tch and she is taking a massive dump on Owen's legacy.

“My children and I were unaware of this project until May 7, when it was brought to our attention by a friend who had read about it online. Contrary to your report, we do not back or support it in any way, nor has WWE requested our backing or support. From what little we know of the project, it seems to be another attempt to exploit Owen’s memory, and his tragic death, for commercial gain. We have resisted that kind of initiative for almost 16 years. If WWE really wanted to honor Owen’s legacy, it would just let him rest in peace.”
What a bitch.

I think the WWE has a right to release an Owen Hart DVD set. The fans deserve it. And Martha needs to remember it is the fans that made Owen wealthy and got Martha everything she owns.
If Martha even tries to sue the WWE, it wouldn't matter, WWE would win. Martha has no right to say what the WWE does with any of its footage that is involving Owen Hart. Martha never cared for wrestling anyhow from the sounds of it. She went to the shows when she was little but because her older sister took her there. So she isn't even thinking of the fans in this.

So it seems this dvd might not come out now.

Honestly, I think WWE has refrained from using Owen for a DVD to avoid dealing with her, but now they just don't care and are going ahead with it anyway.

She's so wrapped up in her bitterness that she doesn't realize that it's not always about exploitation, she just doesn't get that DVD's Figures, HOF Induction, ect... are not only a way of honoring his legacy but also allowing the fans to celebrate it. I can't help but feel that he's tumbling around in the grave as the saying goes.

I hope the DVD comes out. WWE owns the rights of Owen Hart's matches and promos.

When I heard this news, I had to check the Weather Channel to see what the temperature was in Hell.
So excited for an Owen dvd and the slight possibility of Other Owen stuff like a Hall of Fame Induction and maybe even a figure or two. Didn't think this day would ever come.
Edit: Aaaaannnd I just read the part about Martha not supporting it. Hopes crushed again. Owen may have been a nugget, but Martha is the whole stinkin turd lol.

First Sami gets injured, bummer. Then, Hideo is injured, 2nd bummer. And finally we think we are getting an Owen dvd and Martha is on board....only to find out she does not support this and this may end up getting shelved; 3 bummers and your out! Nothing but a bummer week in my book.

I could see the company moving forward on this without the backing of Martha ONLY if Bret is 100% behind the project.

Due to Martha Hart's last lawsuit with the WWE, she isn't allowed to ever sue them again. Therefore, no lawsuits would come out should this DVD/BD project come to fruition. The WWE does have the right to distribute what they own. Since they own a ton of Owen Hart's footage, they can distribute said footage all they want. This was one of the bases of Martha Hart's previous lawsuit against the WWE. I believe they reached a settlement but the stipulation was put into motion that Martha Hart can't ever sue the WWE ever again.

Bret is clearly behind it, and that's all that matters to me. Owen liked Bret better than Martha anyway.

Jesus.....there really is no give with this woman. At a certain point you would imagine that she would relent because of her husbands MANY fans. remember them Martha? The folks that showed up in droves to remember him and sent letters of condolence etc by the barrel load? The folks that had her living in the lifestyle that she became accustomed to?
Unless in some crazy perverse way she blames all indicia of wrestling including the fans on Owens death.
At this point I have little to no sympathy for her "plight" anyway. Go ahead and release the DVD WWE. Owens many fans(which I'm not really one of I must admit) deserve it she is 100% not required to make this DVD absolutely brilliant..

Or maybe Martha, WWE just want fans to be able to celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest technical wrestlers ever?

Honestly, I think WWE has refrained from using Owen for a DVD to avoid dealing with her, but now they just don't care and are going ahead with it anyway. I think this, honestly. I think WWE has Bret onboard and they are just over her sh*t. As long as they pay her any contractual royalties, I'm pretty sure they can do whatever they want with content they own. I'm sure they went into the situation knowing, without Martha's approval, what kind of adversity they were facing from a legal standpoint. I just think we've seen enough time pass as to where WWE is willing to say enough is enough, it's time for a change. I hope this opens the gate for WWE inducting Owen into the HOF and Bret accepting the award for him. That's absolutely what should happen at this point.
