So for a long time I have seen requests and questions to MDT about elite tag team sets. Often it is put down due to the price point not being viable. Personally I think there was a bitter taste left int he mouths of TRU and or Mattel when the Legends elite tag sets didn't do so well. It was sad that this happened and to this day I think the problem with those elite tag sets had many more problems than price point. I would argue that one issue was the talent that they chose to use. I have nothing bad to say about the Bushwhackers. They are a great colorful team and matty knocked it out of the park with this one. Great choice. But Piper and Orton were associated but not all that well known as a team IMO. That and piper had his Entrance great figure released around the same time. The last set was Iron Shiek and Volkof. Once again not a highly desired time, plus the Sheik was recently released in a different version in the singles line. Add to that all of the figures in the tag team series had decent Jakks versions already. It was also a time of uncertainty for many collectors who may not have been sure if they were going to invest in a new toy line following the decade plus Jakks run. Another thing that I think shot this line in the foot was the mass of figures that were on the shelves at this time: Old jakks stock, TNA figures, Jakks new legends line, matty basics, elites, legends, legends tags, and entrance greats. These factors I think often are overlooked.
Ok now to the point. Recently we have had the pleasure of the release of the 4 Horseman set at Target. For $50 this is a great deal for 4 elite figures. SO with a little math you would think they could release an elite tag team for $25. This day in age I think this a reasonable price point. I don't see why elite tag teams could not work now.

Seeing single elites are $17(TRU)-$20(Target/WalMart) I don't see Mattel doing 2-Packs (or multipacks on a regular basis) maybe they do a set or two annually for Target, but they aren't going to do any non exclusive sets. Especially when most retailers don't want to carry such expensive 2-Packs. Remember the Horsemen have no accessories.
Plus if Mattel was to release $25 2-Packs they would kill the sales of the singles. People aren't going to buy singles when they can get a 2-Pack for $5 more.

Honestly the current superstars you mentioned I think would shelf warm. I collect mostly flashbacks and a few current rosters guys here and there. I like how they did LOD in the elite line and wish they'd just keep releasing more tag teams in that fashion. I don't think a legends only line would sell in this day and age because wwe PG era has driven so many of the diehard fans and collectors away.

Plus the target HOF line has so many opportunities yet to take advantage of with releasing more classic tag teams and stables yet. I just can't see them creating another line when the one we have now is working pretty damn good.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH $25 for an elite two pack??? LOL!!! As if that's ever going to happen, they would more likely be $35-$40 unfortunately.

i like the current formula of putting a tag team as singles in one elite set. keeping it that way is perfect.

You're exactly right in pointing out all the reasons the legends tag teams failed originally, and I believe that with how popular most flashbacks are now that with the correct choices, elite flashback tag teams would really sell. I wish Mattel could get these back on track. They would probably cost about $35 though.

I wouldnt be suprised if we get a 2-pack here and there in the hof line now, but nothing regular. I would also guess they would be $29.99. No reason to do current roster tags as they do just fine in the regular line.

I think the elite tag teams would definitely sell. The first set of legends two picks had the likes of volkoff and sheik and the bushwhackers which were sitting at my tru for months. However if they were to release more popular teams with accessories they would definitely sell. Mega powers 2 pack would be amazing

I could also see a target HOF 4 pack with 2 tag teams in it but no 2 packs Id dig that. 2 teams at once. A famous match. I'd rather get more figures at once.

So it seems not out of the realm of possibility. With no accesories and no decal. Plus packaging is a cost. Still have to include that whether 2 or 4 figures are packed together. Im sure the cost of that didnt go up much by adding 2 more figures in the box. $29.99 seems doable.

So it seems not out of the realm of possibility. The 4-pack also didn't include any accessories aside from Windham vest. That would mean for them to he $25 the 2-pack couldn't include accessories either. Some tag teams would need those for presentation. A Cesaro/Kidd elite 2-pack would be awesome but it isn't the same without the headphones and jackets that they would get as solos.

The reason the Four Horseman set is only $50 is because there is only one(barely) accessory and minimal paint apps. How many teams could they produce under those rules?

There are many tag teams that could be madewithout accessories
Hart foundation Powers of pain Power and glory Natural disasters Rougeaus Nasty boys etc etc
They would be great with accessories but I would rather have them without accessories then not at all.
Others with minimal paint apps and very low accessories
Powers of pain A simple hart foundation Power and glory Titus and young Demolition Mega powers Savage and zeus Flair and Razor Flair and Mr. Perfect Managers sets Mega bucks Rhythm and blues

I agree to an extent. Personally, I think the accessories are what helped them stand out. When I think LOD, I think of the shoulder pads. Demolition, masks. I'm not saying every team would need them but if I heard they were gonna make an LOD 2-pack and it didn't come with shoulder pads, I'd be disappointed. Sure the price is great, but I but them for the display factor.

I feel there's merit to your point but ....
It seems Mattels current train of thought is to include tag teams in the regular elite line e.g. New Age Outlaws in separate waves and the Legion of Doom and the upcoming A.P.A. packaged separately in the same wave.
Personally I prefer tag teams packaged in the same elite wave as being from the UK regular elite waves are more attainable here.
