Random question, was there ever a reason for the 5 minutes over? I know RAW sometimes goes past that but its been 11:05 since I could remember.

Because the WWE wants to make sure it definitely puts its fans to sleep so they run over an extra 10 minutes or so.
They are pretty sure most are asleep by 10 pm with how repetitive and lackluster the matches are, but they still wanna make sure that all the WWE Universe is sleeping by 11 pm.

The overrun RAW has is a vestige from the Attitude Era. The overrun helps RAW generate a better rating overall. Additionally, it is something USA Network doesn't mind giving the WWE. As long as USA Network gets ad revenue from RAW every week, their happy.

Top of the hour ratings are important in the TV world. The idea behind the overrun is that they may catch X number of viewers flipping the channel after the show they watch in the 10:00 hour ends. That surge, as previously mentioned, provides an overall boost to the show's ratings. Being that it's USA's bread and butter, they obviously don't mind cutting into their 11:00 hour.

Raw overlap has been pissing off La Femme Nikita fans since 1997

It's been that way since I started watching in January 2001. I love the overrun.

Because Raw, even in the lean times, is a ratings juggernaut -- and the idea is that by the time Raw ends, people have already missed the start of other 11pm shows so they'll stick with USA. It's to maximise Raw's lead-in value to whatever's on after it.

They've been doing it forever, it's a ratings ploy.

So that people fall asleep and the Chrisley re-run afterward gets good ratings.

Because during the Monday night wars, wCw ended at 11. They could garner the audience of wCw's viewers to try and get them to switch to watching WWF. They have stuck with that ever since.

I don't know, but it sure as hell pisses me off when I'm ready to go to bed at 4:00am and have to wait longer in case I miss something important.

As others have said, it's for the ratings and ratings are best for business

Raw never seems to end at 11:05 which is ridiculous because if you think about it they have a pre-show I think which should start at 7:00 like ppvs maybe which is 4 hours plus the time they run over and creative still can't make it interesting when they have over 4 ing hours to make storylines interesting and get people over but they don't

It was part of the WCW buyout. Billionaire Ted said "Ehh Vince...if you want my company...ehhh you gotta either stop or start your show at :05....and never air a Braves game"
