Saw X-Men this morning. It's so weird to say but I still can't decide if I liked it or not. There was stuff I liked. I thought seeing Apoc with the 4 Horsemen was kind of unreal awesome just in general. However, so much of the story was really poorly done/told/executed. Had a ton of issue with Magneto's story, specifically the ridiculousness of the woods scene. So poorly done imo.
Even with that, it was still better than I expected. Seems like so much of the issue was bridging the two trilogies together. Like they got to hit the reset button last film, but now everything is a jumbled mess.
I thought the post credits scene was exciting. I think that will lead to both the obvious villain, tying to Gambit, but also to Wolverine's replacement. I'm not sure why this decided to open against Alice. I actually saw that today as well with my niece and nephew and it was a much better/entertaining flick imo. I guess we'll see how the weekend plays out. I don't want to live in a world where we should be worried about more X-Men films, but at the same time I don't think Singer did anything particularly special here either.

It's not unheard of to have two big movies competing for dollars. From what I've been reading X-Men has already banked quite a bit more than Alice has, so maybe it wasn't a bad move on Fox's part. And if you care about that sort of thing, although both films have been trending poorly with critics, they seem to have been much kinder to X-Men than they were to Alice. As for the future, I'm a little concerned after reading that Kinberg wants to redo Dark Phoenix and Singers wants to do X-Men in space. *shrug*

There were tons of kids in both movies. Both theaters were packed but it still seems like a splitting dollars type of deal to me. I thought Alice was great though. Genuinely good family film that did a nice job playing off its predocessor in a fun new way. Not that X-Men was bad, but I guess there were just more things I wanted out of it that I don't feel were delivered on. Primarily making Apocalypse awesome and reasonably motivated. I think Singer and Co failed at both. The only reason I bring up the financial stuff was because of what happened with Spider-man. Seems like the Friday estimates were low based on what they were expecting. Despite this not being what I wanted, I still want it to do really well financially so we can see them continue to expand the universe.

And Alice is getting destroyed.. Financially and critically.

Just got home from seeing X-Men: Apocalypse.
Disappointing.. Choppy.. Story wasn't very coherent. But it had good elements.. I think Tye Sheridan is good as Cyclops and I think Sophie Turner is great as Jean Grey. I enjoyed Nightcrawler, Psylock, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver was easily the highlight.
They somehow found a way to incorporate Days of Future Past while completely ignoring it.. I don't know how they managed to do that, but it was done. Apocalypse was one dimensional.. He is one of the biggest badass villains Marvel ever produced and he wasn't menacing in the slightest.. Wasn't mysterious.. They didn't do him any justice at all..
And what was the point of getting Oscar Issac if they weren't going to utilize Oscar Issac? How much money did they give him to not use him..
Wish it would have been better.. It was one of my most anticipated movies of the year.

For those that have seen Apocalypse, is it worth seeing in theaters? I almost went today but decided against it.

For those that have seen Apocalypse, is it worth seeing in theaters? I almost went today but decided against it. For me; no - it wasn't really worth it. Not that I thought it was as bad as possibly the worst comic book/superhero movie I've ever seen (Batman vs Superman takes that dishonour) but it didn't really seem to mean anything in the scheme of things...it was just 'there', and while there were some good parts, it just wasn't cohesive enough for a second viewing (which I did with Civil War). Apocalypse being a run-of-the-mill villain with essentially cardboard cutouts for followers (and a disjointed Fassbender as Magneto) added to this for me...I agree with Cameron Stone about the part about Wolverine - felt like fan service and nothing else. But whatever you choose is of course up to you...

Fassbender and Peters kill it, but that's not a surprise.

Apocalypse was pretty average. I really liked it at first, but the more and more I think about the movie, it's just average. Good, but not great.

Went ahead and watched it today. It was alright, not terrible, but nothing amazing either. I mean, it was better than X3.

I can't believe they're going to make a Legion TV show.

Honestly..."meh". It sounds like it might be a watered down Marvel version of Smallville. "So we're going to do a show about Professor X's son." "Aw sweet! So we'll get to see Wolverine, and Gambit, and Beast, and Rogue, and all the other X-Men?" "No, it's going to be in the same universe...but not...and we're going to make new mutants who are LIKE the ones everyone knows...but NOT them." "Ok...why?" If they wanted to do a new Marvel TV show, why not something akin to the latest volume of All-New X-Factor, with a mutant PI firm. Or maybe even a faux-reality New Warriors style show, you know...like what happened in the lead-in to the Civil War comic? Make that an actual show.

Just got back from seeing X Men. As others have said, it was alright. I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't love it. Few notes...
Fassbender is great as always.
Apocalypse kinda sucked. Way too short and not very intimidating.
I liked the new Cyclops, Jean, Storm, & Nightcrawler.
I can live without Mystique. They shovel her down our throats IMO.
Evan Peters steals the movie again.
Weapon X part was good, but not sure it was needed.
Intrigued/Worried bout them trying Phoenix again.
After credit scene wasn't worth sticking around for IMO.
Angel & Psylocke had very little dialog.

I'd be up for that, especially the latter - I remember the whole deal with the New Warriors and Nitro vividly...surely if they give that a good concerted effort we don't get something similar to Jessica Jones, which I've largely forgotten about already.

Just saw X-Men Apocalypse, and I have NO IDEA what all the awful reviews are about. Was it the absolute best X-Men movie, no. But was it awful, or even the worst X-Men movie.....absolutely not. I really enjoyed it. People keep saying Apocalypse himself didn't seem evil enough, but that's the thing, he really isn't evil, at least to his mind, so why would he come off as cruel. He thinks what he is doing is absolutely necessary and what is best for the planet. He believes it has reached a critical point and everything needs to reset and start again.
So, I enjoyed Apocalypse as a character. Other than that, Mcavoy and Fassbender crush it as per usual as Professor X and Magneto, bringing the heart and emotion to the story. Quicksilver is very funny and again just a very entertaining character and addition to the franchise, with another killer sequence where everything seems slowed down as he moves fast.
The action was great, there was some good humor in the film, and I really liked some of the attires in this film (especially at the end of the film, as Storm, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, Jean Grey, and Cyclops stand with Mystique)
I am very excited about the next installment, and the upcoming Wolverine 3 solo film. Speaking of Wolverine, as i'm sure everyone knows, he has a cameo in this film. And his Weapon X attire is the coolest on screen version of the Weapon X get up yet. It looks very comic accurate, as well as accurate to the 90's cartoon and Toybiz action figure.
So, give this movie a chance, I think most will enjoy it. I was worried going in due to all the negative reviews, but it was another very enjoyable addition to the X-Men franchise.
