The Fan Expo convention was held in Toronto this weekend. Fan Expo is a 4-day convention, and today they had two wrestling guests, as well as Mike Tyson, signing autographs.
After seeing pictures of last year's crowds, I woke up early and was there by 8:30. Crowds weren't too bad at this point. Doors opened at 9:30 and I was able to get in within 15 minutes and made my way to the North Building, where celebrities would be signing autographs. I first went to check for Mike Tyson's line. As I was doing so, I recognized a friend, who was volunteering at the show. She told me that Tyson will probably be signing in the afternoon. She ended up giving me random updates on Tyson throughout the day, so that helped.
Since Tyson would not be signing until later, I went to the Medallion Publishing booth, where Booker T would be signing from 11-2. I got in line at about 10:15, and was about 10th in line. Surprisingly, Booker came out and started signing early. The deal with Booker would be for $30, you get his book (signed), a photo-op, and an extra autograph on top of that. He first signed his book, and personalized it to me. I mentioned to him that I met him back in June and the Destiny Wrestling show at Santino's gym. He told me "oh yeah! That was a fun night.. except for when that guy fell hard on his head!" (There was a botched spot at that show). After he signed the book, I asked him to sign my WMH Basic, as well as the Rumblers set, both in a white paint maker. Despite him only being allowed to sign one extra item on top of the book, he signed two. After he signed them, I thanked him and we posed for a picture.
It was just past 11 after I met Booker. I then went to start lining up for Mike Tyson. I was actually about 15th in line, so that wasn't too bad. Some volunteers were saying that Tyson would be signing at 12; however, Tyson was nowhere to be seen by the time 12 came. A few minutes later, my friend that was volunteering came up to me and told me that Tyson just landed at the airport. Great... that meant I'd have to wait over an hour more, and my legs were already hurting! Luckily, I saw ARUN and we were able to chat for a bit. Definitely made the time go faster, but still a decent wait.
At just past 2.. Tyson finally came out and started signing! Tyson was $100 for an autograph, which was a lot less than I expected. I had him sign a WWF Magazine from 1998. Mike Tyson was really cool to talk to. I actually talked about him and his family. To keep things short, my Grade 11 english teacher is Mike Tyson's wife's third cousin. Had a nice little conversation about that lol. Tyson was a lot cooler to talk to than I expected. Despite the handlers trying to rush me to get others to meet Tyson, Tyson didn't mind chatting.
After, I went to get some stuff signed for my friends and by the time I was done with that, I was just in time for Road Warrior Animal's 3pm signing, at the same booth Booker was at. It was actually about 3:15, and Animal already had finished his line-up, so I could just walk up to him. Same deal as Booker: for $30, you get a signed book, a photo-op, and an extra autograph on top of that. He first signed my book, and then signed my elite in yellow:
After, I asked if he could sign other stuff for me, and he was happy to do so. He actually commented on the marker and said "I love these paint markers.. they show up on everything!". I also told him that I met him back in January at a toy convention and he responded "oh really? that's why you look familiar!". I'm sure he doesn't remember me, but he was really nice. I also had him sign a DVD cover, a magazine, and the photo-op from when I met him in January:
And then.. I went to get some more stuff signed for my friends lol. I was finally done with autographs at around 5:30. Only took 8 hours lol, but a fun and successful day!
