So i know he's a real favorite of the modern fans (especially the ones who watched him in (ROH-NXT), but i'm still not seeing much character out of him.
I've heard the excuse that his character isn't supposed to exude charisma, but Edge whom he is often compared to (character wise) certainly did. I'm also seeing some cringe worthy acting that has friends of mine who aren't wrestling fans laughing out loud. Regardless of my personal opinion, i think most would agree he isn't a top shelf promo guy by any means.
So that leaves me with a question, in the Rock N Wrestling or Attitude Era for instance, where would this guy be? Those era's where both very character driven, could Seth hack it?

Mid to upper card somewhere. Maybe somewhere similar to where Dolph is now.

In the attitude era he'd be in The Job Squad and would have 5 minute classics on Heat.

I would say upper midcard. He's just too damn good in the ring and decent enough on the mic to be anywhere below the midcard.

Midcard. The main event during that era was all about the muscular guys or the larger than life characters. While he doesn't really fit either of those, I know that he has done well with everything the company has given him so whatever character they chose for him, he'd get the most out of it.

I think Seth would have been fine in past eras. I would say he would be like he is now, but like with HBK going for the mid-card titles before hitting the main event.
Basically he would have started out as a tag team. Then he would have been on his own going for the I/C and US titles. And eventually be a main eventer.

Jobber. The guy is a great athlete, and would make all the top stars look great.

I would assume he'd have done it the old fashioned way.
Tag Team Mid Card Main Event Mid Card/Main Event on loop.
It was the way.

Impossible to say. There's nobody in the older eras that could work the style and pace Rollins works, so he'd have to slow down his game a lot. He'd have had more success in Japan than the US.

In September 2005, he'd be golden feuding with Shawn Micheals I see. Go back 20 to September 1995 he'd be a worse jobber than Jeff Hardy.

During the Rock n wrestling days he would be competing against Savage, Steamboat, or Tito for the IC title. His gimmick would have been a milk trunk driver from the 50's brought to the future to pasteurize the stars of the WWF.
During the Attitude Era he would have been in contention for the IC title while feuding with Venis, Road Dogg, or Rikishi. His gimmick would have been a the lead singer of a rock band and the Headbangers would have been followers.

Technically, if he was on the card, that would be against labor laws.

My question now is, who would he beat out for success in these eras? Piper, Hennig, Rude, Andre, Orndorff, Sheik, Savage?
Rock, HHH, Austin, Taker, Kane, Big Show, Angle, Jericho, Benoit?
He unseating any of them honestly?

And I forgot to mention the M$M.... no chance of holding a title in the 80s WWF, which to me is damning.

Ouch, more than a few of you think he would be a jobber in the Hulk era. I do too honestly, but I didn't want to start a flame war and cause a old school vs new school debate. He just isn't an entertainer, more of a wrestler. I do want to say he would be brillant in Japan in any era, and I say that sincerely.

See Barry Horowitz:
Not a chance is he competing for any titles. At the very best he's in a tag team with someone like Jim Powers.

You cant compare eras. Theres no guarantee he's the same wrestler without the ROH influence which he admits to being a fan of before actually joining the company. Ryback wouldve been huge in the 80s/Early90s. Kevin Owens would be huge in ECW. Seth wouldve been big in the ruthless agression era or ECW or even as a WCW crusierweight. There are very few guys that could cross eras. Guys like Hogan, Flair, Brock, Mr. Perfect, Bret, Angle, Savage, could cross eras. Would M$M be a big deal today, with the vast change in workrate? is there any guarantee Bruno would be over in the 90s/00's? its hard to say really.

In the Attitude Era, I reckon him and Ambrose would have teamed, split no different than the Shield did, except Seth would go on to hold the Intercontinental Championship, similar to Kurt Angle in early 2000. Then he would have turned face briefly during the invasion, before going Heel and becoming the "face of the invasion" (similar to Austin). Then once the Invasion was over, he would have been in the Y2J role at Vengeance, before putting over a returning HHH at WM18.
That's my opinion.

I think he would have fitted in real well with the Attitude Era and he would have been even better than he is now as he would have far less restrictions on him than he will have in the current era. Do not get me wrong right now I think he is the best thing going in the WWE and I can see him being the main heel for the next few years, but I really do think he has Attitude Era written all over him.
