My future in laws gave me loge level tickets to last night's RAW episode, and my fiance graciously went with me. Now, when they bought the tickets, nobody had any clue at that point that AJ was even talking to WWE. Recently, of course, rumors started to spread that he would sign, and speculation formed about when he would show. After the Rumble, it seemed certain that we'd see him live on RAW, and in our case, in person. Somebody in line outside the arena claimed to see him entering a trailer next to the building. During showtime, when Styles-Jericho was announced with a simple graphic, it was a complete surprise. I turned to my fiancee, and told her "That right there alone is worth the price of our tickets. Thank your parents for me." Meanwhile, I prayed that they would get the time for a decent match. I know that what we got may have been even better, had it been ten years earlier, but still. They had a great match with no interference or lame ending. Easily the best match I've ever seen in person. I'm just happy to have seen it without the TV commercial break. I didn't take pictures of the action, because I just wanted to enjoy the match, but here are nice before and after shots.

I know your feeling man. I had the privilege to see AJ vs Christopher Daniels in a 2 out of 3 falls at a live event here in Italy and it was the best live match i've seen in over 10 years. Hope you enjoyed the show.

That's awesome! I wanted to go, but opted out. I'm glad you enjoyed it. How was the rest of the show? It was a pretty good RAW to see live, imo.
Oh, I was listening to the radio on Sirius XM and the Wrestling Show had a caller say that before the show there were massive "Roman sucks" chants. Is this true?
Anyway, glad you enjoyed the show! You got to see a good one.

This is so awesome man. I saw AJ and Joe tear INTO each other about ten years ago. I wanted to take pics so bad but I wouldn't be able to handle the fact that I missed a split second of pure awesomeness.
AJ Styles is in WWE. It still hasn't sunk in yet.

If that was the best match you've seen in person then I kinda feel bad for you no offense lol. I mean it was a really cool moment, but the match sucked. Mostly because of Jericho. Of course being there live makes everything at least a little better, and that's awesome that you got to see AJ

i went to the ECWA Super 8 tournament in 2002 the final was AJ Styles vs Donovan Morgan. it was, and still remains to this day, one of the greatest wrestling matches i have ever seen from any company in any era ever. even today at this point it's still in my top 5.
from that day forward i became a fan of AJ Styles (& Morgan but he never really took off in any big company unfortunately) i've always loved Chris Jericho as a wrestler/performer
last night was truly something special

You got to see a good one. It was. Really, top to bottom it was an awesome show. And yes, lots of Roman Sucks chants, with kids shouting back that he doesn't. Rock really did derail his own promo to say hello to the cosplayers. After the Wyatt-Kane match, they were escorted to our side of the arena, because they refused to heed warnings. The New Day-Rock duel promo was gold. One minute, my fiancee was looking at me with disbelief over the "Llama penis" chant, but the next minute, she was legit doubled over in laughter over the 'Incredible Hulk & Urkel' insult.

I've been in person for special moments (last live WWE matches for Hulk and also Flair; Angle-Benoit, Rumble 03), but not all have been blow away. Again, seeing shows live is special in itself.

Awesome that you got to see this live.
Honestly though, I read a different take on the booking and liked it more. Havr AJ beat someone like Neville in a competitive match. Then Jericho would show up and basically saying that beating Neville is one thing but he has to prove himself against Jericho. They could then hype/promote AJ/Jericho for a week.

It was no 5-star classic but it was fun to watch and they did a great job of convincing me AJ was gonna tap. Pretty excited to have him in the WWE.

Definitely would've been into that. Unfortunately, it falls into the category of long-term (even if just a week) booking, and WWE doesn't really go there unless it's the main event. Thankfully, Styles and Jericho are both good enough that they made it feel pretty special anyway, even if the match wasn't all that great. I just wonder how long AJ can be carried on dream match scenarios alone before they actually have to pay some serious attention to him. I just don't want him ending up in 50/50 mid-card hell by April.

I thought it was a good match. I think the whole surreal feeling of actually watching AJ Styles in a WWE ring lifted it a bit for me. It could've been better, but for a guy wrestling his first singles match in WWE, considering the different style, it was great.

Completely agree, I've been to really terrible shows before. Matter of fact, the last show I went to was RAW in Buffalo and it is considered to be one of the worst Raw's in history. But I still had a blast. My next live show is the NXT live event in Albany on February 20th. I seriously can't wait. I'm jealous you got to see AJ Styles though, I probably won't be seeing him any time soon.

I think a lot of people forgetting Jericho went 50 min in the Rumble. With less than 24 hours to recoup, Jericho was visibly tired IMO which brought the match down a bit but I enjoyed the match greatly. I'd like to see a well rested match between the 2.

I feel I've always been a part of wrestling history (not always in a good sense).
1) Was there when nWo Hall and Nash took apart Rey Mysterio, Scotty Riggs, Arn Anderson. It was the Nitro where Mysterio was thrown like a dart into a trailer. Never saw it until I watched the recording because WCW didn't believe in telling the fans what happened or in titantrons. Sat outside of Disney's MGM Studios for30 minutes with no action.
2) Was there when Jeff Jarrett laid down for Hulk Hogan; Russo "shoot"
3) Was there for AJ Style's first match in WWE.

Angle/Benoit was heaps better than Styles/Jericho. Which I don't think last night's match was supposed to be two guys giving everything they have. Hence AJ no hitting either finisher of his to win. I've seen some great matches live, but they haven't been WWE matches. Those shows are usually garbage. The last two WWE shows I attended were the 2008 Slammy Awards RAW and the RAW in Philly where the Nexus attack Ricky Steamboat. This was a 2-hour RAW in June of 2010, featuring less than 30 minutes of actual wrestling. If I remember well, the first match never even started. I swore then, that it'd take a LOT to get me back to live WWE event again.

Congrats. It was a good match I thought. A nice change of pace. More deliberate. I was lucky enough to get a picture with both Tna world champions and their respective titles. One was aj, the night before he turned heel:(. And the other was Kurt angle. My two favorite active wrestlers:). That match last nite was the highlite for me too.
