Chicagoans have very poor taste in humans.
As for Edge, he came back from neck surgery no different than when he left. He didn't even have new tights. He was a generic face at that time, so he got booed, and changed it up, and turned heel. This was also way before the Rated R Superstar, one of the best gimmicks of the past decade. Now he's a legend, and in spite of past mistakes, he comes across as a really cool guy, so people love him.

I'm talking currently, since his retirement. He got a huge pop on that 2013 RAW, I was there. Well yeah, they aren't gonna hate Edge now. Once a wrestler retires the fans love them. But back in 2004 he was a hated man in Toronto. If you can get your own home town to boo you and hate on you, then you are doing something right as a heel. Lol but Edge wasnt heel then.

Being from Chicago was kinda part of his gimmick.

he referenced philly often and was heavily interested in their sports, and on top of that is very charismatic so the crowd knew that he'd respond to their levels of energy. that's my guess. What does Philadelphia have to do with anything?

Punk would ride his bike through Chicago talkin to kids on the street. Giving out autographs whilst asking 'do you do drugs?' He was a legit hometown hero. That sounds like something Mr. T would do

Because Punk is very much an embodiment of the city, in both attitude and perseverance. He's the everyday working man that likes to run his mouth. He's a legit Chicagoan. Legit proud of his city, and a legit Chicago sports fan. He's Portillos, Navy Pier, and Wrigley Field, all rolled into a pro wrestler. Those 4 stars he wears on his trunks mean something to him, and the fans know it.
To pro wrestling fans in Illinois, there is no difference between the Bears/Cubs/Hawks/Bulls and CM Punk. CM Punk winning at MITB 2011 was another World Title for the city of Chicago. Ever met a Chicagoan that doesn't still talk about Sweetness, Jordan or Sandberg? CM Punk has become an integral part of the cities sports lore. He's always been the kind of guy hometown fans can rally around. It's honestly not something I'd expect other people to get.

Bret Hart is like the Jesus of Canada. Edge usually gets a pretty big pop here too. Especially in Toronto. The lasts time he was on RAW in Toronto (2013) he got a huge pop. I was there. It was awesome!

We love our Punk here in Chicago. It's well deserved.

Well if I had to guess, they did say the "CM" stood for Chicago Made. So ya would think that would get a few cheers from the people in Chicago. If Edge was known as TB Edge instead, maybe he wouldn't have gotten boo'ed in Toronto?
Before ya ask.... Toronto Born.

He was a main event level star who repped Chicago a lot, through his tights, etc.

I seem to remember reading somewhere the CM stood for chick magnet from Indy tag team days way before I or most knew of punk. I could be wrong?

But either WWE or Punk put a spin on it, and I think it was a smart move. Sounds much cooler IMO.

I also think it could stand for 'champion material' to throw an idea in the hat!

I've heard that he used to give people different answers all the time. He's also told people that it did for C. Montgomery. As in Mr. Burns from the Simpsons.

All of the Harts (especially Bret) in Canada. Davey Boy in England. Taz in NY.
I wonder what kind of pop Warrior would have got from Parts Unknown if WWE ever held an event there.
