So over with his Hometown crowd? I was watching some events that were in Chicago with him and it was insane. I know most people get a better reaction in their hometown but Punks was outrageous. Was there anyone else who was extremely over in their hometown? I really can't think of anyone off the top of my head that got reactions like he did

he referenced philly often and was heavily interested in their sports, and on top of that is very charismatic so the crowd knew that he'd respond to their levels of energy. that's my guess.

It's probably because Chicago is a great wrestling city with many hardcore fans that enjoy the type of wrestler that Punk was. He was very popular amongst the hardcore wrestling fans and adding the fact that he is from Chicago just added to their love of the guy.

Punk would ride his bike through Chicago talkin to kids on the street. Giving out autographs whilst asking 'do you do drugs?' He was a legit hometown hero.

Bret Hart is like the Jesus of Canada. Edge usually gets a pretty big pop here too. Especially in Toronto. The lasts time he was on RAW in Toronto (2013) he got a huge pop.

Watch SummerSlam 2004, the match with Edge vs. Jericho vs. Batista for the IC Title. It was in Toronto and the fans absolutely headed Edge. They all cheered on Jericho. I think it was because Edge was doing the same thing for like 3 years or so and the Toronto fans were just sick of it. Then two years later, at Unforgiven 2006, the fans in Toronto went crazy for Edge.

Well yeah, they aren't gonna hate Edge now. Once a wrestler retires the fans love them. But back in 2004 he was a hated man in Toronto. If you can get your own home town to boo you and hate on you, then you are doing something right as a heel.
