Saw this on SquaredCircle reddit
From 9/11/14 to 5/20/15 which is 252 days and 5/20/15 to 4/24/16 is 341 days
Surely he should be close to returning now, didn't he have the same injury as Cena/Cesaro and they're close to returning/returned, not to mention Itami has been out longer, thought he would've returned last year

I honestly don't see Hideo ever recovering from this time away, career wise. NXT has evolved so much since he got hurt, and the brand has moved along just fine without him. Couple that with the fact that Nakamura is now in the company, and likely a significant priority over Itami (as he should be), I just see him falling by the wayside upon his return. He's not ready for the main roster, he wasn't really blowing people away before he got hurt. I just don't see it working out.

He'll get a good reaction/pop upon his return, but within a few weeks will be jobbing .

I don't really see his return being that epic. His buildup wasn't really going anywhere before he was injured, and he was out-shined by Finn the entire time.
Now I see the same thing happening again with Shinsuke. Maybe Itami has been working on his English, so his injury might not be a complete waste, but it's not looking good for him imo.

Might be in his best interest to go straight to the main roster
I don't think it would be easy to get over in NXT again

It's such a shame he had a setback. i hope he returns soon since the talent pool in NXT is better then ever.

He will absolutely have to re-estabish himself upon his return.
I don't think he's a lost cause, though. There's more exciting matches waiting for him upon his return than prior to his injury, so he will have an absolutely astounding chance to win people over again against guys like Joe, Aries, and Nakamura.

Itami returning to NXT with little fanfare is a great motivation for a heel turn. Would make him interesting again upon his return.

He got hurt at an absolute critical time and to be gone for such a long time, The NXT brand has completely left him behind. Final nail was the signing of Nakamura, Who has 10x more charisma and has a much better look.

I may be in the wrong here, but NXT has lost Sami, Corbin, Crews, Enzo and Cass, and the Vaudevillians in the past 6 weeks. It's rumored for both Balor and Joe to be on RAW in the coming weeks. I think NXT needs an extra name and it's Hideo Itami.

So I assume his parking lot beat down goes out the window now.

Have him return to a mixed reaction because it's been so long, use him as a happy babyface for a while, then turn him into a ruthless by-any-means-necessary heel, Tetsuya Naito style.

So I assume his parking lot beat down goes out the window now. I was hoping it'd be the Demon that did it, leading into a feud between Bálor and Itami for the NXT title. I'd still love to see it, but it's very slim that it will.

It was supposed to be Balor that did that Itami wins NXT title Balor reveals himself as the attacker Itami vs Balor for the belt I figured as much but at one time it was to be believed that KO did it but then KO exploded onto the main roster and Finn turned into one of the biggest babyfaces in years and Hideo is STILL out. Once they stopped talking about it I knew it was long forgotten. Would have been a great feud.

He debuted the same night Hideo got "injured" I think that's the only way to go with it really since Breeze/Balor/KO will be or are gone. Maybe we are in line for a Monster Mojo heel turn?
