You know, it's funny...I don't think I've EVER heard someone say working at Family Dollar or Dollar General or Dollar Tree was a good experience. I know retail sucks for the most part, but you still hear positive stories from time to time. Those three stores? NEVER!
It's a wonder they can get anyone to work for them at all...

A good friend of mine worked at one of those stores and said it was okay, but they hardly gave him any hours so he didn't make much at all. He's a gym teacher now so it worked out for him.

My 3 years as a waiter/working in the kitchen. Horrible job, especially in a pub too. People are rude, it's so hot in the summer months and people with no consideration that order last minute keeping you there an extra 45 minutes. Never again.

Easy one... when my Dad forced me to work as a bus-boy for his supposed friend that owned the place. I was 13 years old. Skinny little kid. All of the other bus boys that worked there were at least 16 and much bigger than me. It was very hard for me to do what they did because of my size but yet I did it. The owner was very mean to me and picked on me, forced me to work late with no pay. My Dad didn't give a damn because that was his friend. One Saturday night I was working and my crap was over 12am (yes 12am for a 13 year old kid, 9 hour day) and they told me to "front" the soda fridge and had the cases of soda there for me to front with. So I did it, and it was already past 12am (note I was not getting paid after 12 am no matter what). I had not even eaten dinner or anything since I started work at 3pm that day. I was hungry and cranky. So after I fronted I wanted to go in the back and get something to eat before I went home. Then what does the owner do? Says I didn't front all the Soda. I told him I did it all. He took me back to the front Deli section and low and behold magically there were a few more cases to do. I did them, took me like 1/2 hour. Went to the back again (by this time it was around 1am or so and I was so hungry and getting more cranky from being hungry and exhausted). He wouldn't let me eat. I flipped, grabbed the nearest thing which was a cooking pot and threw it at him nearly hitting him in the face. I cursed him out and he told me I am fired and to get out. Hah that was music to my ears. I didn't even care if I got paid for the week or anything. I was so happy. But that all changed when my Dad found out what happened the following day (I did not tell him what happened when I got home). So the next day, Sunday, my Dad say I go back to work there again on Monday after school. We'll that lasted a couple of days because I learned I didn't have to take any crap from being bullied and abused like that so basically I just walked out once the owner started his crap again. Facing the consequences at home was worth not having to deal with the abuse at that place. Besides that my parents weren't too mad as long as I worked again which I did get part time jobs on my own as a kid. Worked since I was 10. I will never forget that whole ordeal.

Ive had 3 jobs, the first I was at for over 6.5 years making specialised medicines for various pharmacies. Met some good people there and it was a pretty interesting job (we often made cocaine mouthwash for throat cancer patients, would literally have a 1kg tub of cocaine to weigh out from haha). The only problem was that it was quite far away and I was beginning to get tired of fuel costs and car repairs, as well as a couple of annoying things with management etc. A similar position at a new company opened up like 5 mins from where I live so it seemed a no brainer to apply and I got the job and was one of the first people hired by the company. Then it all went downhill haha, absolutely awful company. The manufacturing labs were 'under construction/validation' and so had to work in the warehouse for the time being. It wasn't too bad until the day the warehouse manager left. The people who ran the place were Indian and instead of actually replacing him they just said to me and the other guys I was there with that we had to run the warehouse now. So here I am no warehouse experience whatsoever and now suddenly im handling deliveries, managing stock, learning the computer systems and pretty much running the place. With 90% of the people being Indian communication was horrid at times and there was just no organisation whatsoever. I asked to go work where I was supposed to be but they said they were happy with how I was doing in the warehouse and that I had to stay there. They stopped employing English and just filled the place with Poles and Romanians on low wages. Communication was terrible and stress was getting too much. Luckily I managed to find a new job and had it out with management when I handed my notice in and walked off. When I tell people about the place they don't believe me but it was literally the worst place ever haha. I now work for a company making chemicals and reagents that are used in hospitals for blood testing and diagnosis. Ive been there since March and it is such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and I'm much happier now

The worst job I ever had was working for the Co-Op. I spent four miserable years working for them, three years in one store and one in another. They are an awful company to work for, and the way management treated us was disgusting. In the end, I had enough and walked out. I now work for Marks & Spencer - and my God, what an AMAZING company to work for.

Tie Between landscaping at a golf course (I quit during second day) A telemarketing job (I quit during third day) And a distribution warehouse (only job that I was ever fired from)
All others have been excellent experiences and led me to my career which I've been at now for 15years

Tie between McDonalds and Sam's Club. Customer's treat you like crap at McDonalds while Management treats you like crap at Sam's Club. Both companies I refuse to step foot in now.

Any job that gives me money is a good job. The more money you give me the better the job. People can say money doesnt buy happiness...Those people dont have money.

When I worked for Walmart. Management sucked, hours were decent, and they acted like huge pricks if you asked got certain days off. Worked there 5 years and hated it for 4.

We used to have a chain of mobile phone stores here in the UK called The Link and I worked their part time during my first year of university and it was the ing worst!!!!! The actual people I worked with were pretty cool actually, but the company acted like we were selling the cure for cancer and really pushed us to add all kinds of add ons to people. I remember this one time I got a guy to take a two year insurance policy and I felt like such a piece of crap afterwards that I never sold an insurance policy to another customer again. Which is kind of ironic when I tell you why I really hated this job. The thing that made this the worst job I have ever had was the customers!!!! I have worked a couple of different retail jobs and I know dealing with the public can be tough. But the people this phone store attracted were just the absolute ing worst. The crap I put up with off people was just crazy and the way they would speak to me and my colleges was just ridiculous! I worked their 2002-2003 and even now all these years later because of my experience working here I try to be extra nice when dealing with people who work in retail because I know first hand how many ing douchbags they must deal with each day. They also screwed me on tax the whole time working their so each month when I got my pay it was so damn low beacsue for some backwards reason I was on the highest tax bracket! I got all my tax back when I left, but at the time I was a student and was pretty much living pay cheque to pay cheque. I remember when I finally got a new job, I practically moonwalked into the place and handed in my notice. They tried to talk me into staying, but I literally said to them not even Britney Spears (she was still kind of hot back then) could talk me into staying!

I was a butcher for Winn Dixie and their faulty saw caused me to lose the tip of my finger.
It was their fault due to the outdated equipment. because the person I ended up replacing got hurt on the same exact saw. And I've always been the first person to put the blame on me if I'm ever at fault.
But they never replaced the saw and my immediate supervisor harassed me to no end after I came back. So what did I do? I waited until the busiest part of the day on a Saturday and promptly walked out. Best decision I've ever made.
F*** Winn Dixie. They suck and they are really screwing over their employees with their policies.
