Credit: Canoe.ca OTTAWA (CP) - The opposition parties introduced an historic motion on Thursday, declaring that the House of Commons has lost confidence in the minority Liberal government.
A vote on the non-confidence motion is expected Monday, with the collapse of the government all but certain.
If the government falls, the motion will offer a succinct epitaph: "That this House has lost confidence in the government."
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, who tabled the motion, has the support of the other two opposition parties and their combined votes would easily overpower the Liberals.
"The Liberal party has no desire to change, no intention to change, and no ability to change," Harper told the Commons.
"After 17 months in office the record of this government - or I should say in many instances its lack of record - has become unacceptable to a large majority of members of the house representing on overwhelming majority of Canadian voters."
It is widely expected that upon losing the vote, Prime Minister Paul Martin will ask Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean to dissolve Parliament next Tuesday and set an election date for Jan. 16 or 23. Such a move would mean an exceptionally long campaign of seven or eight weeks, possibly with a brief pause for Christmas and New Year's.
The Liberals lost the support of the Tories and Bloc Quebecois months ago because of the sponsorship scandal, and the New Democrats recently said they had given up on the Grits because of differences over health care. ------------------------------------------------- So let me get this straight. The opposition parties are rushing to an election they'll most likely lose. Makes no sense to me

So let me get this straight. The opposition parties are rushing to an election they'll most likely lose. Makes no sense to me It's because Harper is a loony bin. Right-wing extremist wing nut. I really don't like him one bit. Seems like a whiney little baby. "Ooooo, I didn't win the election. So I'll just inconvenience everyone and do this crap all over again." Jesus Murphy. Maybe because he bitches about Ottawa all the time, maybe Western Canada will give him a few more votes than the Liberals but as near as I can tell if Ontario doesn't like the Reform Party, I meant the Conservatives, no wait the Alliance, they'll have no hope in heck of winning anything. I just hope they come out of this whole fiasco with less seats than what they previously had. Retards. If they do win watch out. We'll be closed on Sundays. They'll be no more birth control and we'll be churning our own butter. Back-wards thinking bible thumpers. I hate when Alberta sends our politicians out into the open. Makes the rest of us seem like Hazzard County. "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." That's a Steven Harper quote. Holy cow. Well, at least he isn't Stockwell. Why is it that every Albertan politician is a wack-job? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of Martin and his liberals either but I have a good feeling it's like a bad neighbor. Some sort of line "the devil you know is better than the devil you don't" Something like that. I can't quite remember completely but in the last election I remember the debates and thinking that the only one that made any sense at all was the Bloc leader, and that's scary beyond belief. That's it. I have to talk to Kelly Hrudey and see if he'll run for something. We can start small. Kelly for Alderman. That'll be great. Then premier. Oh, I can't wait for the days of Post-Klein. Then off to Prime-Minister. Hrudey for Prime-Minister in 2010.

I am absolutely ready to vote. This sort of news actually makes me really excited. The whole process is awesome and the country is need of some change, if not simply a look at itself to re-evalute the things the government has been doing.
I know it won't be a reality, but my vote will go to the NDP once more. Not quite the 'lesser of two' evils.
Stephen Harper is the George Bush of Canada.

Voting NDP in Alberta is almost like not voting at all. Which I would love to see change, but realistically if you're not voting Conservative it's pretty pointless. They really do have to change how things work. A section of say Calgary with 16,000 constituents will get to vote for 1 guy, yet a rural area with no more than 2,000 will get to vote in 1 guy as well. That's why we keep getting the "Them gay's is goin' straight t' Hell!" type attitudes in Alberta's contributions to government. I'm probably exaggerating a little but not by much.

Prison Snatch. And Sarge. Well, he was a G.I. Joe so that cancels out the negative, so he's still okay in my books. Seems as if I've hit a nerve. Well at least he didn't have a beard. Don't get me started on beards. Hmmm. That was a lot more clever when I thought about it at work. Oh well. C'ést la Vie.
