Figure collecting fever is a sporadic thing that hits me a few times per year, usually for 3-4 months at a time. Eventually I will take a break, usually after I acquire a figure(s) that I've been particularly looking forward to. I've hit that point this week where for the first time in months, I don't have that inner voice pushing me to shop for figures. Now I'm actually having thoughts like.... if I hadn't bought all these figures, I could have afforded to ____________. Now thoughts are popping in my head about selling my collection and spending that money on "practical" stuff.
Same thing hit me back in March and I decided to wait it out and see if the urge to collect returned. It did in July, and as it turns out I was glad that I didn't sell them. I guess now the only thing to do is wait a few months and see if the urge comes back or if the voices in my head are still saying "sell".

I did last October, I went from 410 figures down to 50, and now I'm back up to 100. I sold about 25 I wish I didn't.
I ended up finding a good balance in that I only buy the figures that I truly want and not try to be a completist.

Honestly, I've had this feeling through the years and I figure that it boils down to a couple of things.
First off, if you don't have any financial issues from collecting, then don't worry about it. Clearly it made you happy and you had fun with it when you were doing it, so what's the harm? Also, don't allow others to project their nonsense on you. Like when others complain how it's stupid you collect stuff instead of "acting like an adult" etc. Please. I refuse to be an adult if it means I can't do anything I like or things I find fun. Most of the time it's just miserable people projecting their life issues onto you.
But it's not fun or it's costing you way too much money, then maybe it is time to move on. The bottom line is though if you enjoy it and it's not causing any problems, then you're being too hard on yourself. Life is too short man!

I'm at war with myself at the minute
I just bought 11 figures over the weekend, and honestly, I didn't get much of a buzz off buying any of them. I'm also constantly stressing because I have about 150-200 figures and absolutely don't have the space for that many
I'm in a position now where I'm looking at them and thinking okay, let's have a ruthless cull and trim it down to what I love rather than what I just casually like, but I fear that if I do that I'm gonna end up regretting getting rid of certain figures

ive done it too many times in the past and i always regret it later. from now on, if i get the urge to quit collecting im just going to box the stuff up and keep it. collectors never stop collecting so someday you will want them back.

Everyday. I look at the small collection I have and think about the few hundred bucks I could have instead and whether or not I'll miss them.

I have never had the urge to sell everything, but I have never regretted selling figures that I didn't really enjoy anymore.
Yeah, we could be investing our money or buying practical things, but we like what we like and if it makes you happy and isn't a burden on your finances, then it isn't a bad habit.
I recently had my Star Wars and Star Trek figures stolen from a storage locker, and I won't be replacing them, but I will probably always miss them to an extent.
I guess my point is that you really should think about it because when they are gone, it is going to be more expensive to get them back if you ever decide that is something you would like to do.

Well, when Jakks lost the WWE license and Mattel started up I sold everything. And I mean, I had been a collector since the Hasbro days as a kid and I even had Jakks UFC figures and I just sold it all except for two figures. Then some years passed and I started collecting WWE again, mainly because I got into the product again as well. So right now I only have Mattel WWE, that company we're not allowed to talk about and then some random older figures I find at Savers. Do I regret selling off my entire collection when I did back then? Not one bit. Sometimes you need to wipe the slate clean.

Every single day. As the paint apps. get worse and worse it is hard to justify the $20+ price.

Not everything, but I’ve had the urge to sell 88% of my collection. You can find what I have for sale here. forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/288760/king-patrick-stars-wantsI decided a while ago that I only want the Championship Title Belts. SuperStars (and figures) come and go, but the Championship Title Belts (and my love for them) are forever.

Yeah, I've been feeling that a bit lately. I've got way more figures than I actually have space for, and I don't really do anything with them. I've still got figures from elite 37 unopened.

I had that urge last year and sold 95% of my stuff.... Now I have more than I did before I sold.... I think some people, myself included, get a rush from the collecting of said collection
I do sometimes think about all the fun stuff I could sell my collection for, but seriously, wait it out.

Not selling, but I have thought about lessening the displays and packing the removed ones away.
