I'll go ahead and give some credit to Muhammad Hassan cuz that guy got so much heat from the crowd, it was unbelievable. In terms of best heel of all time, I gotta give it to Triple H.

As far as 1990- present, imo, a short list of Flair, Triple H and Vince.

Surprised Jake Roberts hasn't gotten any love yet for his heel work in the early 90s..

Flair and Piper are the first 2 that pop in my head. Current day is easily The Miz.

As a fan growing up, the best heel was always Triple H, he always won, found a way to win, dominated the face and made you hate him. Piper and Flair in their day, hell, Hogan as a heel I never have had the privilege of watching so I couldn't say them. More recent that the 2002-2005 Triple H, Edge sticks out like a sore thumb and his feuds with Taker, Cena and the segments with Lita (albeit cringe worthy) he was great. So my picks would be Triple H & Edge. An honourable mention to The Rock, he has a way of making a crowd loving and hating him and that's the sign of not only a top heel & face but all round performer in my eyes.

My mind always goes back to Triple H. I remember legitimately hating the guy when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure the one and only time I cried when watching wrestling was back in 2000 or 2001 when they were teasing a Triple H face turn which I was totally into, only for him to reveal that he was the master mind behind taking out Stone Cold in 1999 and beat the crap out of him. Good times lol.

well, I don't want to say it - but... The Miz, I hate him and always have and he's a heel, so I guess he is meant to make me annoyed like that where as a heel like Ric Flair or The Rock or Andre The Giant, I like.

ron wright, jim cornette, harley race and ric flair all resonate as top heels with me far more than triple h. triple h was the #1 heel from 99-2000 without question though. his run from 2002/2005 was just trying to rip off harley race mustache and all.

As far as the modern era I can't really think of anyone except Triple H but as far as the past I would say Flair and definitely Shawn Michaels...how no one has said Michaels especially after Montreal when he screwed Bret or hell even before that when he formed DX with Triple H and Chyna
How about Hogan? As much as I can't stand Hogan his heel work in WCW as Hollywood Hogan in the nWo he has to also be considered

Modern era I would have to say Randy Orton as hell especially his heel work in 2009 when he was white hot especially with Legacy and when he punted Vince in the head and then did the same to Shane and then RKOing Stephanie as well as DDTing her while Triple H was handcuffed to the ropes and then hitting Triple H right in the head with his own sledgehammer and then afterwards breaking Batista's arm on a RAW episode in such a disgusting way too

Easily Flair. To be a great heel people have to want to come see YOU get beat up. People flocked places to see Flair get beat by Rhodes, Steamboat, Sting, Luger whomever. Guys like Piper were good heels but people didnt flock to see them get beat, they flocked to see the big baby face (Hogan) they were up against.

I would say Flair but also Harley Race too back in his heyday or even The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase in the latter 80s into the early 90s DiBiase has to be considered

Another great heel would have to be Jesse The Body Ventura back in the early to mid 80s Jesse Ventura was a great heel I don't think Body was ever a babyface

Everybody's answers are fairly spot on, but for us Brits, there's only one factual answer: Mick McManus.
McManus was a World of Sport world champion for over 30 years, during his time he VERY rarely wrestled as anything other than a heel. When kayfabe was very much alive and well, his heelish antics would literally cause riots among groups of people in the audience. He once nearly lost his sight after an elderly lady hit him with a handbag! He was escorted to and from every arena in Britain, usually in extreme secrecy.
Outside of the ring he's widely renown as one of the true innovators, and later a great trainer and promoter. McManus was old school, and he took as much of that kayfabe to the grave as he could.
I can feel my grandmother scorn me from beyond the grave for merely suggesting that the man deserves respect. A true pro.
