He's right. The problem is that we've all seen 20 years of wrestling since then in basically the same format, so it's a lot harder to come up with new stuff for said roster to do.

As far as in-ring ability? They absolutely are.
As far as everything else? Ehhhh... not so much.
Granted, it's hard to tell how much of that is on the talent when everything is so restricted and scripted now. Just look at how much better some guys come off in a shoot-style environment like Talking Smack, where they can get some semblance of freedom.

I was watching Talking Smack last week and KO who I believe legit holds a grunge against WWE for drafting him #8 on RAW brought it up and it sort of took Shane and especially D Bryan aback. That's become apart of his character to constantly prove to everyone that doubted him, that he's better than the #8 draft pick.
I really wish WWE would turn guys like him loose, he'd be a megastar if they did. Vince Russo said that the booking and the constant handicapping of todays talent, prevents them from becoming these larger than life personalities that we so loved from the AE and I agree with him. More people should get the freedom that The New Day is afforded.

Its already been mentioned, but it bears echoing.....todays crop of talent are indeed athletically superior, and truth be told, if the creative reigns tied around them were loosened up, i really think we'd see something that's at least comporable to the AE in terms of overall product. But todays cookie cutter ,paint by numbers ,product doesn't match the superior quality performances from years gone by. Lets be honest, the restrictions of todays roster hold things back in ways they didnt before. A good example of letting up on the restrictions would be Romans dismantling last week on Raw. If he could have gotten some color in that segment, perhaps it would have added a serious tone to it....instead of the inadvertently hilarious one we got. Lol

I will say that the current talent is possibly the best they have ever had and it's a shame that the company feels that they need to relay on part timers.
However the Attitude era and todays WWE are really uncomparable. The Attitude era wasn't about wrestling, It was an era full of ass kicking and hell raising and that's all that was needed. People didn't watch it for 5 star matches they watched it for the gripping storylines and huge drawing stars that had them hooked to the TV every week.

Sheamus is 100% right here. If they gave wrestlers a little more creative freedom instead of so heavily scripting every single word that comes out of their mouth and every segment they're in, then it would far surpass the Attitude Era in terms of quality.

I don't disagree with him at all. Their roster right now is the best it's ever been.

I'll agree with the other posters here... Today's WWE roster, top to bottom, is far and away the most talented they've ever had as far as in ring work goes. It's hard to judge them on anything else because they simply aren't allowed to fully blossom and expand upon their basic characters and personalities. IMO, if WWE would take the governor's off these guys and gals and let them really shine in every aspect, you'd see a much different product and very well could usher in a new boom period for professional wrestling.

They arguably have the best roster right now since 2000-2002. So much talent with so much potential.
I whole heartedly agree with him that this roster is without a doubt better than the attitude era roster. But then again, the attitude era wasn't about athleticism as it was more about edgy content and storylines, and was targeted towards a different audience back then who didn't care or even know what match quality even was. I can probably name a handful of guys who could have put on quality matches back then. But I can say now with the current roster that about 95% of them have the capability to tear the house down every single night.

It used to be better. Some of the guys today are so dull and I think creative is only partially to blame.

He is completely right , if WWE allowed the characters of today's era to be expanded upon like the guys of attitude Era , the WWE would have asses glued to seats , and ratings and sells threw the roof

I mostly agree, athleticly the roster is much better then the Attitude Era and probably the best ever been. Character wise it is well beneath.

Agreed. It's all well and good saying the new guys are bad at character work but it's hardly a fair comparison. Guys weren't getting neutered in the attitude era like they are now. Val Venis notwithstanding.

I guess it depends what era is your favorite. For me it is better than the attitude era, but nothing will be better than the ruthless aggression era.

We have 240 pound guys moving around like cruiserweights today. He is absolutely right their athleticism is at a much much higher level than it was in the 80s and 90s
