So I think I'm becoming a bit Clark Griswold-esque, in that I'm already starting the itinerary and bookings for next year's Wrestlemania (ONLY 358 days away). I like to think that we all have these great memories of places and times that we want to share with other people and make just as good if not better than we remember it, but even I have to admit, a year out seems a bit excessive.
Anyone else on here plan out a vacation like a year in advance and if so how did it go?

I really don't go on vacations. Usually if I get time off from work I like to spend it at home just unwinding. But I'm also boring and get easily irritated so there's that. Also if I do go away anywhere its usually for a long weekend if anything.

I've started booking my hotel for next years WM right when I got home from this years' WM. I've already locked that up and I'm sure at $133/night, it will be one of the cheapest prices in all of NOLA over the next year.

I've driven cross country many times. When I was 16 I drove my cavalier into the middle of Mexico. That took me about 30 hrs. I stopped to sleep once, at the border. That's when I realized how full of poo that movie is. It took Clark days to get to Cali and Cali is closer than where I went. I guess if you want to stop at multiple locations and take your time you can stretch a cross country trip indefinitely but in reality you can make it there in a day.

My vacation planning ends up happening about a week or two before the trip. Sometimes I have no plans for the trip at all besides plane tix and accommodation. So I just make it all up as I go.

I'd like to be more of a planner in this sense. I had some flight points much to my surprise saved up recently and said 'why not' and went to London a few weeks ago and planned absolutely nothing. I hit most all of the sights to see and tried to hit some back roads too but I probably could have done better with more time/thought. It was also ultimately only a long weekend so I guess I'm the type that likes to pretend I can do something like that at any time haha

Lock in the great hotel rate now and then cancel/pay later if need be. My last three Mania trips I've start planning the following week after the big show. We have a WrestleMania Trip Planning thread here: forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/338028/wrestlemania-trip-planning-thread Join us over there.

I'm a planner. I have general anxiety about a lot of things so I like to be prepared if I'm going on a trip or doing any type of traveling. Usually that's just for a show or an event out of state or a few hours away, but this year I planned my friend and I's trip to Wrestlemania more or less by myself. I started in May-June of last year, so nearly a full year's worth. It was stressful at times, and involved hours of deliberation in my own head as to what our itinerary should look like, what we'd do in situation X, Y, Z, etc., etc. In the end, it went off without a hitch, despite neither of us having ever taken a vacation before. We've traveled to concerts a couple states away dozens of times, gone to wrestling shows in Boston, but never took a full fledged vacation, so this was a pretty big deal.
We enjoyed ourselves so much that we're talking about going to New Orleans for Mania 34, though I'm not doing any sort of serious planning until flights and hotels start opening up for that time of year.

I started planning my Mania trip in the summer and started booking in October. It's great to book early since you'll likely get a great deal on a room and if something happens or you find a better deal you can always cancel an not loose any money.

Usually it's at least a year in advance for us, makes things so much easier as vacation time comes closer.
