Just something I was thinking about. It seems increasingly likely Hogan will be coming back to WWE soon, and I've seen some speculation that Mattel will resume making Hogan figures shortly thereafter, even perhaps a release of the,Hollywood DM that got cancelled.
But can they? Even if they wanted to? I bring into the conversation the Storm Collectibles figure, and it's quite obvious that Hogan signed a deal with them, but would this deal negate any possibility of a Mattel contract? It's not uncommon for a licensee to be handled by several companies at the same time, but generally that's because each company has the license for specific products or scales. Since Storm has a 6" scale Hogan deal, could Mattel be prohibited from making Hogan figures?

Hogan owns his likeness. If he comes back he will have Mattel figures and Storm will continue to make his figures/statues.

Who knows what kind of deal Hogan has with Storm or if it conflicts with Mattel's deal with WWE. That said, WWE wouldnt sign him to a deal if they did not have the ability to sell as much merchandise with his likeness as possible. If he comes back, he's getting a Mattel action figure.

Storm Collectibles doesn't technically have a 6" scale deal with Hogan. 6" scale refers to 1/12 scale and Storm's figure is 1/10 scale. I know it seems irrelevant since it's so close but there are several toy companies that share properties with each other and make certain sizes of the characters within the licensing deal.

If he still under his contract. I don't think his deals expired I think it was more the WWE saying no to Hogan merchandise.

As probably one of the only people on this board that (1) graduated from law school and (2) does IP Law I can with confidence that Mattel can legally make it.
It is unlikely that Hogan sold an exclusive license to whoever makes that other figure because it likely was not a super lucrative deal and he knows WWE could call at any moment and resign him. Hogan's IP is tremendously valuable and he's been doing this for a long time

It all depends on Hogan's contract with the other company, if he signed an exclusive deal then Mattel can not make him. But something tells me he probably wouldn't sign an exclusive contract with such a small company. So probably can be made by Mattel.

Storm Collectibles was already working on the 1/6 scale Hogan figure before he got fired. He already had a deal with them. Storm recently got into the 1/12 scale game this year and made a Hogan figure.
There's a bunch of legal stuff that makes it ok. Ranging from Hogan owning his intellectual property to the figures being considered I guess "non-competitive" due to things like scale, price, sculpting, articulation, availability, etc.
Just look at SH Figuarts and Jakks. They produce WWE toys, but they are the kinds of toys Mattel isn't producing. So Mattel isn't complaining. If you want to look at Marvel as an example, compare Marvel Legends to Marvel Select. I think Select has something in the license that requires a bigger size and certain articulation limits. NECA also does a lot of 1/4 scale and video game figures because they are working on getting licenses to make regular figures.

Whatever the deal is Storm collectibles Hogans are way better looking than anything Mattel will produce of Hogan in the future. The 1/6 scale Hollywood Hogan is awesome but only if storm could make The Undertaker in 1/6 scale.. 😊

I don't see why not. If anything I think Mattel would want to release it as quick as possible. My only wish is that they give him a unique flabbier torso.

I don't know, but after that Storm Hollywood figure, whether its a DM, Elite, RSC Exclusive Mattel but step up there game, because they don't come even close to that Storm figure the whole collecting world will let Mattel hear about it

His Hollywood days were when he was the most cut his entire career. Maybe I should of clarified, not as flabby as oldman Hogan, but Hogan was never really thin and cut. He was built, but also had a heavy look with a bit of a gut to sort of explain. The same thing with Flair. Mattel used the Del Rio torso which is pretty ripped for guys who had more of a gut experience. I think the Kane or Austin torso would work for Hogan, but I'd like to see an original one made for each of them (considering how big of names they are). The Storm Collecribles captures what I'm taking about. It's built and has the flabby appearance at the same time, but not small and cut like Mattel's. Another thing is, the Del Rio torso is overused.

Also, if they do release the Hollywood figure, it needs some updating. That prototype was shown two years ago.

It all depends on what his contract with Storm says. If they have exclusive rights to him in action figure form, then Mattel won't be able to.
Like with Tazz, he can't sign a WWE Legends deal because of his contract with the company that distributes his radio show...I think it actually might be NBC?

Pretty sure Hogan holds the rights to his own character and can sign with whoever he pleases.
