Very! This was definitely not my intention. I was just wondering about Superstar talent disparity between Jakks and Mattel! Its fine I think a lot of people on here (including myself) are interested in stuff that we dont understand when it comes to the toy line, production, biggest sellers and biggest losers. I think most of you got the nail on the head in terms of kids moving towards electronics over toys. Lego does seem to be an exception to this though. The retail toy industry is not doing that well in North America, and a lot of it stems from the poor performance of retail, particularly Toys R Us. Buyers often do not know product well, and when they do, they do not communicate product details to ask company stakeholders. My background is in logistics, working with all major retailers, and some of the large brands that you all like to purchase from. I still don't think Amazon is the answer though, I hate shopping on Amazon, it's a bad experience. Too many vendors selling the same thing, it's confusing, and I feel like I'm sorting through so much incorrectly categorized product. I wonder if Amazon will start kicking off vendors once they have larger market share.

I wonder if Amazon will start kicking off vendors once they have larger market share. It's the convenience factor that overshadows all the negatives for me. I would imagine a strong correlation between high disposable income and being time poor. It's those people (spenders) that don't have time to go hunting around Walmarts etc, when they can let Amazon do the work.
Amazon's website is terrible. They really need an ebay style advanced search. They get lot of criticism from us fussy toy collectors, but on the up side, they have been very good at rectifying problems in the past going so far as replacing, and letting me keep damaged figures. (smashed up carding).
As for the extra vendors, you can't be a master of everything, those guys are basically paying for server space. It's free money really for Amazon and probably draws more traffic where people may be inclined to buy Amazon products in the same order. Definitely something I've done regularly.
Ebay is probably going more towards that too. they are accused of being Amazon lite. They have been systematically getting rid of small and medium sellers for several years and I'm reading so many stories of Ebay Shop sellers have a drastic drop in sales recently.

Gotta love when some guy at home is telling a multi-million dollar company how to run a business. I'm currently in charge of ring fencing the Equity arm of the UK's biggest investment bank, from their retail (high street) bank.. Formerly the worlds biggest Company by assets. now 4.5 times the size of Mattel.
I have been a qualified financial advisor.
I have worked on the Equity trading floors of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and the Royal Bank Of Scotland.
I worked on the sale of the RBS equity business to BNP Paribas.
I consulted HSBC on the new method of financial reporting for the European Banking Authority.
And I have a toy collection of 4000 pieces.
And, I'm working from home today. Gotta love it. Right?
So... no experience running toy companies? Gotcha.

So... no experience running toy companies? Gotcha. ha. So small time. But as you ask. I'm a qualified PMP practitioner which is the same project running methodology used at Mattel. its a transferable skill because you use business analysts and subject matter experts beneath the project manager. Ive made 2000 ebay sales in 2 years without even trying. Does that count as a toy company? I would happily transfer to that if I wanted to earn 10% of my current salary. Your first 2 attempts at trolling have been shut down shall we go for the hat trick? ;-)

In your first post it was "Multi million dollar company" no company type specified. Experienced? Check 2nd post "Toy company" Size not specified. I'm currently working on an 80 figure import deal which will be great for my fellow UKers as they will never be on sale here. Experienced? Check. 3rd post. You've moved the goal posts again. So all we have established, is that you aren't very good at trolling.

I don't know if anyone else me times this but the Wwe is being sued by over 100 former wrestlers. With that being said that leaves a big chunk untouchable.

There is a massive list that I made of wrestlers we could possibly see, when I was trying to figure out who else Mattel could make form days gone by. I've basically got a check list of people made by mattel, made by Jakks, made by both, suing the company, fallen out with the company, porn stars, etc etc. And what was determined is that apart from new stars, the amount of old people that are marketable, agreeable, or working for WWE right now, is becoming very very slim. How many Macho Man's have been out recently? That's a very good indicator in my book.

Meh, point is nobody here should be telling Mattel how to run a company. Pretty sure they got it under control. Yes that was your original point, but nobody here was telling them how to do anything. Someone asked questions, others tried to answer. We were having a quite good discussion, and you, as a mod, chimed in to try to condescend me and others, as if we are not capable of talking about it at all. And it was shut down accordingly. Would you have been so patronising to Bill? Bill is a designer. (Very good one) and seemingly a line manager of a team of designers. Is he any more or less qualified to talk about the running of a Blue chip company than I am? I can assure you most of the people "Running" Mattel and indeed RBS where eI work, are more qualified in accounting than Toys or trading equities. The scale of our two respective companies is huge, and I can also tell you that 90% of the staff working at them are probably just as ill equipped to discuss the running of them. They just do their day jobs. Would you like us to just stop talking about everything? RSC won't be happy with the hit rate if you ban talking!!!!

You, me, and everyone else here... does not. I mean, if I sell lemonade on the side of the road, and it does well, that doesn't mean I can tell Coke & Pepsi how to improve their business. There are discussions everyday on here without someone telling Mattel how they should run their business. It's very simple actually.

I know how to run an equity trading floor. I couldn't run an investment bank. Bill has previously said to you he has nothing to do with budget and distribution etc, and yet you are still arguing the toss. They also have another 3 department's (again areas that Bill doesn't work in) Sales, Research, and marketing, and their job is find out exactly what we want from a toy line. What trends are, what tastes are, what the future holds, what's selling, what's not. How do they get that info? From us, the consumers. None of this free world class education is really sinking in so I will leave it there.
