Legit the worst idea. I've never collected basics. But still sometimes pick them up if A. It's a dope attire I know I won't get in an elite
B. I can convert it into an elite.
9 times out of 10 it's to convert it into an elite...that's out the window now.

Well now the articulation and movement will be at the elbow like the Elite Mankind arms. Is not ok for the shoulder because it will make it more difficult to pose the figures in some sort that before you could. Is like Jakks TTL. It's not anything like TTL's. TTL's could only bend at the elbow. They had no side rotation. The Mattel are has the hinge of the old elbow, but added side rotation. That is the only small small difference. Because if the elbow didn't had that rotation, it would be the same as the TTL. Plus this will make the sell of basic in stores slower than ever.

I don't see it having an impact on basic sales. Kids will still want them and parents will still want to buy them over elites because of the $10 price difference.

Remember in this world of action figures most of the people who buys them, are older than. Kids only get them because they see them on TV or as Xmas gift. So it will make it slower if the collectors doesn't like the parts or those who do customs or pic posing figures doesn't find it useful. Because I get basics because they are cheaper and sometimes I know the figure will not come in elite, like the case of the basic Hurricane or some of the divas.

I buy plenty of basics. If it is a wrestler I like I buy it regardless if it is an elite or a basic. They are both going to be displayed the same way on my shelves. I picked up two of the Network Spotlight Basic Sting figures this morning, because it was Sting. If I was going to be upset with anything it would be the loss of ankle articulation on the basics if that is true.

But lets see what will happen with it. I prefer to get cuts on the packaging than the figure.

agreed, we're going to need to see some pictures first Here is the pic. Look close at the biceps. you see, I'm still uncertain on that tbh, i'd wait and see if it is what it says it is cause it honestly looks the WWE Tough Talkers, but then again it might not be

So this SDCC has been a really good one for me. Had a blast chasing down the SDCC exclusive Funko Pops for the last 24 hours online and in-stores, blew a sh*t-ton of cash but got everything I wanted (including some really rare ones, or at least ones that will be rare soon enough) and managed to help out a friend who was at work and couldn't get what he wanted. Plus found the Club attire Basic AJ and "Prize Fighter" shirt K.O. at Wal-Mart in the process which I snagged too. Got so wrapped up with Funko's stuff that I totally forgot to check Mattel's booth for reveals and pics ans finally got around to it about 15 minutes ago, really excited to see new WWE stuff. Now I'm gonna be SUPER dramatic here, but seeing the new Basic's with the shoulder and feet articulation removed was like a punch to the gut. I mean I audibly gasped when I read it was a finalized decision. I've been collecting WWE figures for about 20 years now, broke off when I was about 10, got back in at 12, and have been collecting ever since. Never liked "deluxe articulation" style figures of any form, never have, never will. I have a MASSIVE collection of Basic's I've invested quite the amount of time and $ into, swapping parts, buying Elites to trade parts (sacrilege on this forum, taking from an Elite to give to a Basic, but it's just my preference), so to see that Basics are being converted into a *slightly* more articulated Tough Talker body-style figure (minus the talking) just broke my ing heart. Big time. I still have AJ and KO on my desk, I had planned to fix Kevin's arms and swap boots (kickers for laces, like that look better) but now it's extremely bittersweet knowing they'll be my last two WWE figs ever purchased. I just don't have the $$$ and time to rebuild a 100+ figure collection again in a totally new style the way I did with Jakks to Mattel 7 years ago and frankly have no desire too due to the Elite style articulation. I know Bill and/or anyone who represents Mattel will most likely never read this (understandably) but I will say I 100% understand cost effectiveness when mass producing/distributing merchandise and I respect your decisions, but again, this is absolutely devastating as collecting WWE figures has literally been a lifetime hobby and with this new change implemented that hobby is gone. Like I said, corny/dramatic but man is this a HUGE ing bummer man, talking about a rain cloud over a parade...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The move might deter me away from collecting basics.

This is done as a cost cutting measure. Same for the ankles, which is way worse a transgression because it's removed a point of articulation. The swivel elbows hasn't.
This isn't a good sign, because it shows that the RRP will remain the same (they never go down unless of a sale) and quality goes down to keep prices from going higher. Happened with Star Wars 3 3/4 figures (which went from super articulation to 5 POAs, and then the price doubled within 2 years), and Marvel Universe figures (lost the waist/torso joints and thigh swivels and then the prices went up $5).
As long as this doesn't affect the elite figures, I don't mind so much, but usually this accompanies a rise in prices somewhere, which could mean elites will go up in price in the next year.

As a basic collector only I got PO'd yesterday as I felt that this was a screwy move, now I've slept on it its not that bad as long as they stay at £9.99.
The rotation is still there, just at the elbow rather than top bicep. The ankles are a very welcome and much needed blessing IMO as too many if not pretty much every bloody fig I get these days has the ankle strength of Mr Glass and on display end up looking like they are doing the Michael Jackson leaning move. I'm all for one piece boots as long as you can still turn them around.
The only downside is for part swapping. We will only be able to swap from the elbow down know without torso cracking which sucks a bit.
The dismissive nature of basics by 99% of my fellow collectors is truly the annoying bit of it all. "Scrap them all together so I can hve my elites done better". **** you pal. Not all of us can afford £120 a series every few months. £60 I can though. So yeah, stop having a go at basics. They are great.

This looks ugly, limits articulation and quite frankly I won't be buying any new basics.
Time to vote with your wallet, fellas.

How dare the figures be more realistic! Grrr!

I actually don't have a problem with it. Honestly, really high end figures like NECA an Diamond Select often do not have this bicep swivel, and it is because the more joints a figure has, the less realistic it looks.
And another reason I am ok with this, and I wouldn't even mind if they remove it from ELITES is because I don't think there is one figure I have gotten over the last year that hasn't had at least one loose bicep joint that annoyed me. Same with ankles. I'm ALWAYS having to glue these just so the figures can stand.
Less joints, the more realistic, and less chances you get a defective figure with an overly loose joint.
I hope they remove bicep and ankle joints from Elites as well.

1992 1000% on the same boat! I even looked last night at som elites I passed up to see what I would be looking at to catch up. It does seem over dramatic to say collecting has hit a cross roads because of the lowly basic line changing, but I have a substantial amount invested in this style. I am really hoping to hear any news on future SH Figuarts as I'm starting to be intrigued by them =\
