So, I know there's plenty of hate on Roman. I get it. I'm not sure honestly where I stand on that guy. I realize its not his fault he's been pushed so hard, and whether its because of the crowd or him, his matches are exciting. But I want to know what people honestly believe not about Roman, but about how he ascended to the face of WWE.
Let me start off by saying I believe Cena was hand picked by Vince. I believe he had about a decade of relevancy and time at the top. Obviously, I believe Roman will too. So at best, his career will start to dwindle down in about 7 years (Making it 2024)
In that time, it is likely that Vince will retire, and unless he is senile and decides to give the company to the Beaver, Steph, Triple H or Shane will run it or oversee it in some capacity.
So my question is this: It seems like all three to some degree subscribe to the belief of letting things be organic. Look at Triple H's work in NXT. So, if any of them are in charge, do you think we'll see them hand selecting the next Roman Reigns or will they be making the face of the company be whomever is obtaining the biggest organic reactions? Will it be a combination? Is letting organic reactions the best way to do business? Is Roman going to be the last hand picked face of WWE?
I guess ultimately my question is do you really think business will change once Vince exits the company?
My answer: No. it'll always be instances where somenoe who is midly popular and puts on decent to great matches will inevitably be used as the poster child for WWE.

Based on Triple H's booking in NXT most stars have been organically grown and not hand picked.

Haven't the last 6 NXT Champions been brought in and given an immediate push to the main event? Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Drew McIntyre.

See I don't see Roman as the top face. Top star maybe but come on the guy retired The Undertaker and showed no remorse. If it had been Cena he would've danced around, ignored the boo's and then cut a promo on how much he respected The Undertaker.
To answer your question I have to say no. Vince could live for another 30 years and if he does there will be many more guys.

vince mcmahon runs a circus, albeit a successful one. once that plug is pulled and hunter takes over i have no doubt that we will see a strong restoration of professional wrestling instead of the 'sports entertainment' module.
expect to see lots of video packages featuring harley race and ric flair in regards to the sports legacy (i'm not complaining).
that's the essential thing people don't understand when they discuss why the nxt stars don't fare well when brought up to the main shows. nxt is a professional wrestling company. wwe is a sports entertainment company. one knows it has your attention and the other is endlessly grabbing for it.

And you can count Adam Cole on that list too, after his impact he made with his debut on Saturday. Triple H clearly is handpicking who he wants to be NXT Champion, he knows it right from the get-go. The fans didn't pick who should be champion, that's for sure. |

I think that's a pretty hard question to answer right now.
For all the praise we can bestow upon Triple H, we have to remember that Roman Reigns is his guy too. There are multiple indications that is the case, and even perhaps that Triple H "hand picked" Roman before Vince even did.
Now, we have anecdotal evidence in NXT that suggests Triple H may be a little bit more apt to employ a ensemble cast mentality, but it's really apples to oranges. Triple H is really just answering to himself down in NXT, and by and large, nothing about WWE lives and dies by the way NXT performs or the way he chooses to handle it creatively. NXT, as a brand, lacks the pressure of the main roster and is far more free to experiment with different booking philosophies without really having to worry about anything other than short term repercussions.
I think a lot of people have the misconception that the moment Triple H takes over for Vince, WWE is suddenly going to turn into a bigger scale NXT. I think those people are going to be severely disappointed. I'm sure things will change, but I expect that the realistic result is much closer to a hybrid of the two philosophies and strategies. After all, if Triple H's ideology were as different as many people make it out to be, I doubt he'd be being groomed to be the next man in charge. Vince McMahon is too proud and believes too strongly in his vision of pro wrestling to simply leave it in the hands of a person who's fundamentals differ drastically from his own.

In NXT, Triple H knows he's booking for the Internet, not for the mass audience. Since Kevin Owens debuted, nothing about the choice of top stars there is any more organic than the main roster... It's just hire a guy who is popular online and pretty much send him straight for the title. Owens, Balor, Joe, Nakamura, Roode, McIntyre, Cole. The difference between the NXT booking and the main show booking is just that NXT is a lot easier. Book a popular Internet guy to win, the Internet will be happy, and that's job done for audience satisfaction. With the real shows, they have to compete with other TV shows for the attention of normal people, not just us. And that's still gonna be the case when Triple H takes over from Vince.

Vince McMahon will never retire. He'll only relinquish control of WWE when it is pried from his cold, dead hands.
Unlike Vince, Triple H is actually in tune with modern times, and he knows exactly what the audience wants. Just look at the wonders he has worked with NXT, and how many stars he has created. I don't know about Shane or Stephanie, but Triple H definitely knows what he's doing, a quality I feel that Vince has completely lost for years now. So assuming that control passes at least partly to Triple H in the event of Vince's death, I would expect organically picked faces of the company. Stars that the audience, as a whole, have embraced.
This is not to say that I believe WWE will become a large-scale NXT if Triple H takes over. I just feel that Triple H would completely overhaul the creative team, and he would know the right decisions to make. It's become pretty clear that most of the writers just cannot write pro wrestling, and Vince has made some pretty bad calls in recent years (having Lesnar end Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania 30 being the one that sticks out). I would also hope that Triple H would remove Vince's stupid and downright moronic "writers should not be fans of pro wrestling" requirement.

WHEN...HHH takes over, you will see some changes. But if you think HHH isnt gonna ram someone down your throat, you are sadly mistaken. Probably, look at Cena who has dominated for near a generation! By the time Reigns reaches that length (which I don't think his heart is that much in it) Vince will likely be dead.

Could set up Undertaker vs Cena, where Undertaker wants to beat the guy thats beaten both Lesnar who broke the streak and Reigns who tried to take his yard.

The top face will always be someone the office can trust. Someone they believe can make them money. It's always been that way, and it always will.
The problem is, Vince thinks he can pluck anyone and throw them straight into a title run and we'll eat it up. Just look at Jinder. Instead of building him up over weeks, Vince took his from one extreme to the other within weeks. And the fans aren't really buying into it. IMO that is where they went wrong with Roman. They didn't tell a story. They didn't give fans a reason to be invested in him. They just said, here he is, take it. And it backfired.
Triple H in NXT also picks out who his top face is going to be. The only difference is he has been giving fans a reason to care. He's given fans a reason to jump aboard the bandwagon. The way he built Sami Zayn up was magical. I was moved to tears when he finally won the NXT title. That's the sort of emotion you should strive for. And I think Triple H understands that. Look at how well they handled Bayley getting the NXT women's title. I mean the way Johnny Gargano has been used is great. The way they've built up Aleister Black is awesome. The fans are buying into what they are selling. That's the reason so many love NXT.
