It'd be hard to imagine no TRU around. Especially during the holiday season. I don't have a Walmart in my area. There's one about 20 mins from me but its always a wasteland. Would put a lot of pressure on Target during the holidays.
However it seems as if kids these days are more into electronics rather than physical toys. It's almost like you can hand a kid an iPad and they are content. So that could have something to do with TRU possibly filing for bankruptcy.

They won't close. Companies do this. Kmart is still kicking, I have 4 within 20 miles that are not on any schedule to close yet!!
I could see amazon buying tru honestly

TRU will close eventually. Its inevitable. They've been struggling for years. It wont be swift like Hastings was but more like Kmart/Sears. There's going to be a few stores close, then a few more. Then they will come up with something to save them but its essentially like using paper towels to plug a drain, its going shed away and eventually they will start hurting again before eventually the final doors close. It probably wont be this year, might not be next year but they'll be gone 10 years from now.

Digital world of electronic gadgets has disrupted everything. The development of the internet and personal data has gone too far.

I've been to six TRU's in the past month and they've all been loaded.

I moved three years ago and now live right by a TRU, walking distance. We've lost too many toy stores already. Hope this is just a restructuring thing cause man it would suck to lose TRU.

I really hope TRU never goes away. I still enjoy walking through the store with my kids and checking everything out. Back in the day I was lucky to have a TRU, 2x Kaybee's and Kiddie City all within one shopping district, plus Clover. So 5 different spots to hit for Hasbros and then all the other great stores back then Like Laneco, Jamesway and Kmart.
With only one toy store left, didn't think they would go away, but I guess the internet and amazon etc are killing off everything. I also have so many great memories of walking around Barnes and Noble too, but I can't imagine how they're staying open at this point either, I guess the instore Starbuck's helps them though.

They are well stocked on Pops, and they have more $120 wwe titles then they know what to do with im shipping receiving manager at my Toys R Us I order all the current stuff that's coming out but distribuation center keeps sending me old crap and it's pissing me off.

I love going to TRU, but im not gonna let my personal feelings cloud my judgement. The 3 of them near me are just...so far behind on getting new product. They are wastelands of opened packages and missing items. I memtioned this on another thread, but they just dont care. And it goes far beyond lazy or poorly informed employees. Its all the way up the corporate ladder. They just dont care. Im not just some guy spewing crap i wouldnt know about. I worked there, and my girlfriend was a department manager. They have such a high allowance for theft that they just write it off as "oh well". Over half the cameras in the store dont even work. They aren't even hooked up. And they rarely watch the ones that do work. So i have no sympathy when i say that part of this is their own damn fault, because you cant make profit off of items that walk out the door. So maybe if they gave a damn, they wouldnt be 400 million in the hole. em.

My TRU is freaking packed full of stuff. Most of it being the dolls and Network Spotlights, though. Same... Those damn old Triple Hs

I don't see them closing doors anytime soon.

I updated the original post with additional outlets reporting on it and excerpts from their articles to add talking points. Most articles say that while it might not be bad as it seems, it's certainly not a good thing.

You would think that some bigwig with too much money would look at the market and say "I'll open my own store chain to compete/replace TRU." It's always nice to have more than one option. When I was growing up here in Chicago, for every high priced K-Mart, we had a deal crazy Venture. Now for Target, we have Walmart. TRU had Child's World/Palace and KB. It's like the WWE itself....it thrives when it has competition!

They have stock troubles, a terrible website, shipping is rough, and most locations are too big for todays brick and mortar stores.
However it will be sad to lose, basically the last of its kind, in a full fledge toy store. KB toys going down was a knife in the heart.
