TRU will close eventually. Its inevitable. They've been struggling for years. It wont be swift like Hastings was but more like Kmart/Sears. There's going to be a few stores close, then a few more. Then they will come up with something to save them but its essentially like using paper towels to plug a drain, its going shed away and eventually they will start hurting again before eventually the final doors close. It probably wont be this year, might not be next year but they'll be gone 10 years from now. Your comparison can also be applied to our good friends at TNA/GFW Once kids hit 7 or 8 years old in today's world they are beyond toys. There is no need for toy stores in that regard. It reminds me of that scene in Back to the Future 2 where the two kids scoff at Marty calling his arcade game a baby's toy because you had to use your hands.

I'm not sure how well they do in the UK but there's always a lot of people when I go in. Would hate for my TRU to go since where I live it's pratically the only toy shop

Giant corportations filing bankruptcy doesn't mean they're going away anytime soon. They might cut back on the amount of brick and mortar stores as part of a reshuffling, but I would assume this would be the type of bankruptcy that allows them to reorganize their debts and become profitable in the future. Not that it's a guarantee- but I doubt we will see them go away anytime immediate. Definitely interesting news, though. A bounceback in holiday sales this year can help TRU postpone bankruptcy. Lets all chip in and make it the best holiday season for Toys R Us ever. The problem is all my TRUs have sucked for stocking anything good the past few Xmas seasons. The goid stuff only came after Xmas. Target legit did not get any new elites for 6 months until January. If stores would stock, I would buy. Instead I have to shop at Amazon which gets stuff before any of the stores near me. In some cases I already got what I wanted from Amazon months before it hits here.

we have a TRU about 30 miles from here, every single time i go by it there is no one in the parkinglot. I always think to myself how in the world are they still open. I guess they do so much during christmas that it makes up for the rest of the year

TRU had gone through some trying times before, so hopefully they can recover.

My TRU is so inconsistent. It'll be one of the first to get spotlight figures in,but hasn't had an updated elite line-up since like 37.

I was told about 3 months ago by a long-time TRU employee that if "they don't start paying their bills, we won't be here this time next year.". I've heard the same story from multiple people who work in a variety of retail setting. Never trust a store level employees opinion

If they'd get new product in on a timely manner, I'd love to help them pay their bills.

I would miss TRU. That was said with sarcasm. Who needs it? Amazon rules all.

TRU has long been in financial crisis. Nothing new. Brick and mortar stores as a whole are in financial crisis. Look at some of the kingpins of retail from not that long ago. Sears, KMart, JC Penneys, Circuit City, Ames, Hills, Montgomery Wards.........ALL DEAD or just about non existent. This trend will continue so long as retail continues to sink its own ship and have no answer for a company like Amazon that has a 1000% lower over head and thus can offer lower prices. People will spend more, but they have to get something for their extra dollar. Mass retail cant compete on price level, customer satisfaction, customer service and are even losing the "I want it now mentality." They cant keep shelves stocked and with Prime, you can have your item in 2 days and never leave your house.

With respect to WWE in TRU, the price is deterring. TRU has been the most expensive storefront chain retailer, where Elites can be up to $24.99. This is making them uncompetitive with WM/Target and especially Amazon online where Elites are offered at $19.99 or less with free shipping. All things constant, price is king.

Best Buy will go out of business before TRU.

I've been buying figures from my Toys R'Us for years. It is more reliable than the Target and WalMarts in my area. I was just there today looking for TJP. There is only one left near me. It is actually one of the only Toys R'Us stores in the world that still has the rainbow-striped colors model from the 80s. It has never been remodeled. My location would definitely go first if there are closings coming soon. I love Toys R'Us, but I've been expecting it for years.

I don't know any of those stores after Circuit City I used to work at a Hills Department store. It was great cause it was during the Bone-Crunching era. And I'd have the pick of the litter. One for them AND two for me. Hmm... I'm not 100% sure why I told you that.

Did your Hills turn into an Ames?
