So how many of you feel that Mattel should do a flashback only line like the Jakks Superstars series. I think they should have the regular elite line for current superstars and make a flashback line for the legends with 6 a series also. We all liked that Legends wave they did last year with Taker, Kamala, Jericho Magnum, and HBK. I think they should do a regular series like that as a regular line, no retail exclusive and do like 5-6 series per year. What do you guys think ?

The HOF series is that and that previously mentioned Flashback elite lineup didn't set retail on fire. It might had been the reason why Mattel throttled back on making mostly Flashback series.

We ALL liked the lost legends wave? Lol. An all flashback line won't work. There would be to many choices on the shelf at one time. And sadly they just don't sell that great anymore. I would love a flashback line but I just don't see it happening.

Sadly, I think this is a dead horse that we’ve beaten far into the ground. Just an opinion, but it appears over the past 2 years that Bill and company have tried to incorporate more legends into different series that aren’t their own to satisfy us, the minority, and I don’t believe sales have shown his bosses that a stand alone set would be worth trying a second time.

They did twice and it failed twice. Once at mass retail the other on their site. I don't want to hear the crap of the attire choices were bad because other than Snuka they weren't. The reason the Legends line failed at mass retail was overproduction. Not only did they release Series 1&2 at the same time, but they also released KMarts HOF set at the same time which were the exact same figures as series 1&2 but with an added cardboard plaque. So they competed with each other's sales because if you found the regular series you didn't need the HoF and vise versa. Add to that the TRU exclusive Legends 2-Packs. My TRU had shipmemt of over 100 cases of the Legends tag team sets. Then another shipment of 30 cases. There was no way to sell 260 of each set in one store. I don't think this store got 130 cases total of Jakks CSTT line. They had about 3 cases tops of each series. So retailers were scared away.
Then they tried it on Matty Collectors, but they never promoted/advertised them being sold there. They should have put a pamphlet in the Basic/BP/Elite packages or the very least printed it on the card/boxes saying "Look for these figures at Matty Collectors.com" but they didn't. I bet the 70-80% of their targeted market had no idea that Matty Collector or those Legends figures existed. You can have the best product out there, but if nobody knows about it you aren't going to sell any and fail.
So as much as I would love a full scaled line of Legends/Flashbacks retailers and Mattel have decided they aren't a good investment. Best we can do now is the 1-2 Flashbacks in the Elite line, the "HOF" line, RSC Exclusives and some of the "Then, Now & Forever" but I highly doubt we will ever get a regular mass retail Legends line again from Mattel.

I think in order for it to work, it'd need to be maybe 3 or 4 per wave, 3 or 4 waves per year. They do sell, if they didn't Mattel wouldn't make em.

I would be happy if say, after every Third release of current Superstars - the next wave is a Flashback only series.

Since they pretty much cut the flashbacks out of the elite line I do think they should make a legends line. The classic superstars line from jakks was awesome. I miss it

I'd love to see a dedicated legends line, but at this stage in the game I assume that ship has salied. So much has changed in the toy market since 2009/10, and interest in WWE certainly isn't helping. I found a really interesting article a while back that computed what PPV buys would be if the WWE hadn't switched to the Network. To me the most interest thing is that PPV sales stay strong through the Great Recession before dropping sharply. And then they haven't picked up significantly despite a strong economy. I just don't think there is the interest base in WWE as a whole to sell figures at the same rates as when the CS line was alive. I thought the mixed lineup model Mattel was using in the Elite line was the perfect solution. Guess Mattel doesn't agree...

I'm no expert but to say attire choice were fine is not 100% accurate in my opinion. An AWA slaughter before a green Wwf version and nwa road warriors before the highly sought after red Wwf version are two obvious ones.

The NWA Road Warriors were my most wanted version and was when they were arguably at their best. And if I was going to pick a Sgt Slaughter I would have gone 70's-early 80's black singlet without a t-shirt first. But there was nothing wrong with the Red, White and Blue. They wanted to be different than what Jakks did. And I am pretty sure the camo shirt Sarge had just gotten a release in one of the last waves of CS.

If he wasn't deep sixed by WWE, he would had been overused like Warrior and Savage. And Snuka is still tainted even after death for a barefoot version to be made.

I just can't trust their choices anymore. Even when we get flashbacks they pick some pretty dumb ones. (Wild Samoans, berzerker, etc) I even skipped the entire hof4 due to lack of interest in those selections. The original legends line and two packs were horrible choices and/or bad attire choices, sorry PJ but most people buying these aren't your age. They won't have a successful flashbacks line under this Mattel brain trust.
