If the box condition was that important to him, then he really should have asked about it before bidding/buying the figure - especially as he seems to be quite fussy.
Unfortunately though, you'll probably have to except a return and refund him... eBay ALWAYS favor the buyer in situations like this.

I have had people try to get me to refund them over packaging. They are like your listing says MOC and the package isn't mint. I always have MOC in my listings and explain what it really means in the description. I have always had ebay side with me every case.

If you accept the return, make him cover shipping and don't do a refund until you have the item back in your hands.

If you sold it on ebay, you are screwed since the payment can be held up and/or the buyer can give you negative feedback if he feels like it. You may have to negotiate something with the buyer directly, like a partial refund.

Because of this nonsense I refuse to sell figures on eBay. I also play guitar and have dealt with selling guitar gear in the past with stuff like this. But since guitar gear is significantly more expensive than figures, it’s usualky a case of someone spending more than they should and having buyers remorse once they get it wanting a refund. So many people trying to get over on others on eBay it’s ridiculous.

F that guy. He wouldn’t get a refund from me. If it was through eBay and PayPal, you wouldn’t have a choice. Even if you list your auctions as “no returns”, the 100% money back guarantee protects the buyer. This. I was going to say this. The Bay never backs a seller, never. I spoke to an eBay person on the phone. I had a similar experience. My customer waited over a month to claim a toy was damaged. I tossed this hypothetical at eBay. A buyer can make any claim, at any time they like, and return to me an empty box. To which the eBay person told me, Yes. A buyer can claim anything, get a full refund, and keep an item, returning to you an empty box, but eBay trusts people to do the right thing. So a person can put the screws to you and eBay will never side with a seller. This is why I don't use feebay anymore.

I think I would give the refund to keep my rating good but it does suck when you know you did nothing wrong. I'm a MOC collector and I always ask before I bid over $20 for any WWE figure to make sure its in good shape.

THIS happens all of the time. eBay is going to screw you. You will have to return and refund. Block that buyer so he can’t bid on your stuff anymore.
I don’t sell boxed wwe on eBay anymore for this reason. Buyers want it perfect. The fact is, no box is perfect these days. I fought the the last refund request and eBay made me refund the buyer. They don’t care about sellers- because buyers keep the site generating income.

This is why I don't sell online. The buyer has ALL the power. He or she is clearly trying to shake you down. I would accept the return. This. A few years back, I sold 4 x NECA Predator figures in absolutely minty perfect condition. Packaging with the loving care you would show if you were posting a new born baby. I received an case as one arrived damaged. I apologized and asked for photos. He replied actually all 4 are smashed to pieces. No proof - eBay took his side even after he changed story. Voila - with 24 hours, he got 4 free Predator figures totalling at least £100. BTW regard to the original poster, that AJ looks as good as any you'll find in a shop. Looks absolute fine.

Don’t listen to people who are saying don’t do the return.
If it’s eBay, hey will refund his money and he will keep the figure as well. They are ruthless against the seller these days.
Tell the dude to ship it back if he is not happy and just give him the money back. After dealing with a bunch of figure collectors on there, I wouldn’t doubt that he’s just be a diva and is trying to get some of the money back and keep the figure.

I've never sold on ebay, and it's things like this that keep me from doing so. I hope it will resolve in your favor, but their system is definitely stacked against the sellers. Spell everything out in the listing when you sell, as that seems like the only way to get around garbage like this about packaging.

Simple ways to prevent this in the future is take pics of your figures and put them in the listing, don't call it mint, and tell people no refunds/returns. I done business with people on eBay with that type of listing. Separates the scammers from the legit.

I often ask questions if I’m going to be that picky.
Also surprised he asked for a full refund, sometimes if there’s an issue I’ll just ask about how to handle the situation and gauge the seller’s response.
Plus buying online comes with a certain set of risks to but to be that uptight about it...crazy.
The real way to play it safe is to be very clear about your return policy if any in the future.
