In most cases the packaging is just garbage for me. Even those stands they put in there with the figures are garbage for me. Every once in awhile they'll put out something like the RetroFest packaging and I'll pull the trigger. Even still, that's extremely rare. If they brought back the Legends packaging I might change my tune but it took me a few years to even look back and appreciate that card art. I'm just a loose collector at heart.

Thanks for your input. I remember with the King Kong Bundy figure they had a mini generic box with black writing on it. But I would be game with a baggie or bubble wrap if it would bring the cost down. NOTE: I selfishly like looking at the box, reading about the wrestler and then rip it up ... but only thinking about cost savings to get the figures collectors wanted as a last result. That was just the white mailer though, the legends theme packaging was inside that, so not less packaging, double in fact

It's critical. The whole "just rip it apart" mentality annoys me. It shows a lack of appreciation for subtlety. That's basically what 'us' loose collectors do though.

Even though I'm mostly a loose collector, packaging is very important to me. I'll never forget to disdain I'd feel seeing the old blue and silver elite boxes

For me? Not at all.

Goes in the garbage. Not at all important to me as far as design is concerned. Only thing I wish is that they'd go to an all plastic clam shell like the old McFarlane Sports Picks so that people can't steal accessories. Took 10 minutes and like scissors or a knife to open those sumbitches.....belts and shirts would be safe in those. And ZERO chance for repacks because you can't close them back up. Only way to open them is to LITERALLY destroy them.

I'd prefer packaging like the Basic line. Less to tear into and throw away. I currently have a mailaway Triple H and the packaging it came with is awesome IMO.

As a loose figure collector, I would be happy with it if it saves me any money.

For loose collectors or online exclusives, not important at all. For MOC collectors or items sold in stores, its important and needs to stand out. Also, this looks like a plea for Mattel to make a Legends line by cutting costs and foregoing the packaging.

As a MOC/MIB collector, the packaging is very important to me... it's all part of the overall product and appeal - especially for lines like Defining Moments and the Retros. I LOVE plastic/clam shell packaging... they're great for displaying and storing - and you don't have to worry about card creases and bent corners etc. The ToyBiz Marvel Legends packaging was awesome.

I just try to find figures without paint smudges or wonky eyes. Unless it's a vintage figure like Hasbro or LJN, packaging goes straight in the trash.

Heads up, this might tick someone off, it's not meant to, just my POV, I'm not judging.
I open nearly everything modern because I think most modern packaging is trash. I like a lot of vintage packages, big paintings on them or crazy graphics, you know, stuff meant for kids because they're toys. Most modern stuff, IMO, is not great package wise. I feel they try too hard to make it look nice or classy or collectible. Don't try to make it look "classy" it's a mass produced toy made in China of a wrestler, no matter what it can't look "nice". People who don't collect toys will still see it and be like "I'm sorry, you're an adult who collects toys of nearly naked adults who fake fight?!" I mean, no judgement from me, I get the schtick, but yeah you CAN'T make these things look nice. I'd rather have something that OWNS it's tackyness. That's what I appreciate about older packages for toys. They knew they were loud, obnoxious designs but they were meant for children. I love that. That's what I want. That's basically why I still have toys, to connect to and remember a time when I was a kid.
That's just my opinion though. So modern stuff, nah, crack that crap OPEN. Unless there's something going on with it, like the Shark or Shockmaster, where the packaging is in on the joke and part of it. Plus I don't have room for it. And I dislike boxes. I prefer blisters, not as easy for parts-swappers to pull their BS.

Whether or not you are a loose or MOC collector packaging is important as it is the first thing that draws your eye to the shelves in store.

I could care less for packaging. I wonder if the packaging has its separate budget or if it’s part of the elite set. If so a minimalistic approach would be preferred and still look nice. The packaging goes straight to the trash for me. I also don’t care for those stands they include with the elites.

I just rip the packaging apart and throw it in the recycling. I like Amazon’s option of frustration free packaging, The only packaging we’ve ever saved is the BootyOs New Day Box. Even then, we carefully took the figures out to play with.

The good news is Mattel continues to come through HUGE with Legends/Flashbacks. So grateful ... but this post was just in case we had to get creative to make it more affordable for Mattel to release this and how YOU the collectors would respond. Thanks for ALL of your input.

You can put elites on card instead of boxes and I wouldn't care. I shred & trash
