Rockies' online World Series ticket sales system fails Spokesman says server was "overwhelmed," team stops sales until it can be repaired
by Scott Orr, News2
October 22, 2007
DENVER (KWGN) — The Colorado Rockies say they have suspended World Series ticket sales online because high demand overwhelmed their computer system.
The company that runs the servers that host online baseball ticket sales reports a problem with the system -- and says only a few tickets have been sold.
Paciolan Incorporated runs evenue.net, but says it doesn't know what the problem is and is working to fix it.
"We are suspending the online portion of the ticket sales," said Jay Alves, Colorado Rockies spokesman, at a press conference outside Coors Field early this afternoon.
"Virtually the entire allotment of tickets are still available," he added, saying that the team would reinstate sales as soon as the problem can be repaired.
He said Paciolan was "overwhelmed" with the number of hits to the Rockies' website.
Colorado Rockies officials have said their computer systems were ready to handle the crush of online traffic, but fans across the state have reported problems either accessing the Rockies Web site, or completing their purchases and receiving confirmation.
There was a loud groan from the crowd as Alves said the team intended to continue with its online-only sales policy.
Team officials said this morning they expected to sell a total of nearly 60,000 tickets to three World Series games in Denver.
About 20 people lined up in near-freezing temperatures outside the Denver Public Library before it opened in hopes of using public-access computers to score tickets.
The Series opens in Boston with games on Wednesday and Thursday. Games 3 and 4 will be on Saturday and Sunday in Denver. If there is a Game 5, it will be played Monday in Denver.

Red Sox in 5, I'd prefer it be in 6 because it'd be nice to clinch at home. I dont see the Rockies beating Boston, sure could happen, I am scared, but Francis and the Rockies pitchers like to make batters chase pitches, which the Sox dont do. With Schilling and Dice K seemingly better, I think we are ok with the rotation, even with Wakefield probably starting Game 2.

If Boston wants to have a chance, they need to get base hits in the outfield. Colorado has an amazing defense. So amazing, in fact, it seems as if you hit the ball in the infield, you're out. Colorado needs to score runs, too.

Defense is fantastic and all, but when the Red Sox are pounding your pitching staff defense doenst matter much. The defense is a great stat and will help, but its the pitching that will decide this series like all series. Boston has a lot of speed though with Ellsbury and Lugo, so I am not too worried about hitting balls to the outfield.

I think Eric Gagne will see plenty of action because the Red Sox will sweep and win each game by 9-10 runs.

Eric Gagne should not be on the roster, but probably will be.
Julian Tavarez needs to be

My uncle has Broncos season tickets (which is like the holy grail in the state of Colorado) & he was telling me people are putting up 4 Broncos tickets for 1 WS ticket. Yes, 1 ticket. Getting Broncos tickets is very hard, but I cant believe how far people will go for tickets.
As much as I want the Rockies to win, I doubt it will happen. Its kinda strange how things worked out for me. My dad's team is the Red Sox's & mine have always been the Cardinals & Rockies. The Sox's destroyed the Cards in the WS in 2004, now they are going to try & take out my other favorite. It makes for a hostile territory at my parents house. Luckly I moved out.

The irony is nobody gave a **** about the Rockies in Colorado until the playoffs If the Rockies are down 3-1 come Monday night, the Rockies will be absoultley useless to Denver fans if their beloved Broncos are playing the same time

The irony is nobody gave a **** about the Rockies in Colorado until the playoffs Yea, I think I'm one of a few in the entire state that hasn't hopped on the bandwagon. It's great for the city, is generating a lot of money and stuff, but I really could care less about the team. It'd be nice to see them knock off Boston, because I've never liked them or the Yankees, but if not, whatever. Cubbies in '08!
