If there's any positive to it, we're more likely to find a Mattel Sting warming on a shelf than an AEWA Sting on a store shelf. LOL, Sting almost never shelfwarms. The DM GAB 1990 was the only one that did in many areas.

I would have loved to have gotten as many Stings as Warriors

Yes - I was hoping they would get that short-haired, early crow Sting out in Legends 7 and also an Ultimate Edition surfer Sting with neon pink tights and hopefully a long coat.

When will they learn to stop waiting on people? Hogan, Angle, Sting, Dudleyz, etc

I think we could have gotten more Surfer Stings for sure, but Defining Moments Sting was the MUST have... personally I would have loved an Ultimate Edition surfer Sting and hopefully down the road that’s still possible.
I will say this, Mattel can’t please everyone... we see collectors blowing up all the time about the number of Warriors etc, and then when a talent like Sting doesn’t have that volume of figures, they feel like they missed out. You can’t say “we want new talent and first time in line” and expect every colour variations of Surfer Sting and Warrior and macho and Flair and so on...
On a plus side, I have managed to avoid the hype that is AEW figures, but a Throwback Sting figure might just be my first.

I say no. We got Surfer Stings, a Crow Sting, a Wolfpac Sting, a dark haired face painted Sting. What more do you need?

Is him signing a merch deal out of the realm of possibility? Seeing Jake and DDP both continuing to get figures seems like WWE is willing to allow their legends work for other companies.

I forgot about the first basic. And was only counting the basic and elite lines and sublines and not the gimmick lines. And Sting debuted at SvS in 2014 and rumored to have been signed well before that. Sting debuted at SVS 2014, but the first figure didn't come out until 2015, hence me using the the 2015-2019 timeline. And don't get me wrong, I get that that the point is to only discuss Basic and Elites, just pointing out the other because they're WCW crow Sting representation. But even ignoring them, that's still 4 crow Stings in a 5 year period. Even if we count 2014, it's 4 in 6 years with a 5th scrapped in the 7th year because of his contract, while making surfer Stings and modern Stings. That really doesn't seem like bad representation of the gimmick in the line at all. Its not bad but probably shoulda been a couple more. I see it the same as how they did the Hardyz. They pumped out several Matt and Jeff figures but only 3 total from AE. Brood and the WMX7 BP. The era when they were at their height of popularity that’s all we got. Is the Brood good enough to capture that era? Sure, but you kinda feel like they shoulda done more considering how over they were at the time and how many people were watching the product. Same with WCW Crow Sting. When WCW was bringing in an audience they have never witnessed in their entire existence Sting was the top babyface. You’d think Mattel would want to try and reproduce as many looks from that period of time as possible.

If Sting was treated the same as Mattel treated Ultimate Warrior we could have had plenty of Stings in that time period.

Still not as disappointing as them dropping the ball on RVD, I predict he’ll sign a legends contract soon but my collecting days are over

they should've made more surfer stings.
The problem wasn't so much quantity of Stings. it was quality imo. the white/green Surfer sting and Bash at the Beach Sting were great figures ruined by terrible part choices. that bluetista torso was made for a guy thats 6'6 near 300lbs. So why it got used so many times for ppl that had no business having it, behooves me.
My fave was the original DM Crow Sting. Even tho without the coat, u start noticing the weird boots. The huge stumpy legs. Not having molded gloves. Woodgrain bat. But ultimately the face was great. Hairstyle and color looked accurate. The little molded on necklace was a nice touch. And the coat was awesome. So it looked amazing on the shelf.

Yes, they did. They could have churned out as many Surfer Stings as they did Warriors and we would have gotten most of the attires we wanted instead of getting the selection of attires that we did which, quite frankly, sucked. GAB 1991 Sting should have never been done ahead of most of his other attires during that era. Is him signing a merch deal out of the realm of possibility? Seeing Jake and DDP both continuing to get figures seems like WWE is willing to allow their legends work for other companies. Sting's contract is different. He's got a multi year contract to be an on-air talent that clearly also has merchandise included. I don't think he's signing a WWE legends deal again for a long time.

Older Crow Sting was the only one I cared about and I'm happy with it. I did grab the green surfer one just because so I'm good. Don't care for newer Crow looks or Wolfpack.

WWE aren’t going to want to sign him because he “betrayed them” according to their hive mind, and AEW aren’t going to want him to have a deal with WWE because it cuts in on their deal

We all know Mattel has to answer to the licensor. Given how Sting was used and treated by WWE it’s possible that they rejected a lot of figures Mattel wanted to do. If I could like this post more than once, I would. Mattel gets a lot of stick around here - some quite rightly & some not so... Mattel can only release what WWE will let them - they are calling the shots. I Don't really think Mattel dropped the ball - WWE on the other hand...

True, but AEW figures never get to the shelves There was a random restock at a local Walmart in the middle of Wisconsin. Including a Jericho chase. So people that are willing to go to the stores might get a chance. Not ideal, but yeah.

You’d think Mattel would want to try and reproduce as many looks from that period of time as possible. I see what you mean, but unlike Attitude Era Hardyz, were got basically every major WCW Crow Sting look (97 with shoulder pads, 98 with big scorpion, double scorpions that was basically 99-01, and Wolfpack) outside of late 96/early 97 which was coming and got pulled. Now yes, they could have hit more with small differences (haircuts, white boots, the little-used leather pants) but those aren't on the same level of missing 2000-2001 Hardyz, Angles, Dudleys, RVDs or etc.
