Whether it's a call by the design team or something coming from WWE, it's pretty clear WCW figures take a back seat. There are more figures from Luger's short WWF run than from his years in WCW. It's laughable how few Elites Flair has, and again I think you can argue they better represent his WWF run than his years as the cornerstone of WCW. At least the basics are more WCW-centric. Diesel has been remade a few times in recent years, while it's been a few years now since a WCW Nash. It is what it is. But it's disappointing how modest my WCW shelf is compared to the shelves and shelves of WWE figures I have from the same eras. In fairness where Luger is concerned, his USA and Narcissist attires are a lot more toyetic than the plain trunk wcw looks he had. He's also pretty accomplished in his WWF run. He won the Royal Rumble, he main evented Summerslam 93 (and kinda Wrestlemania X). I'm a huge Luger fan, so no complaints about getting both the USA and Narcissist looks. My issue is more that there's only one WCW version. Either an early WCW with neon trunks or a later era Wolfpac reusing the BatB head would be perfect low deco figures for a wave. Throw in a WCW title and the figures will sell.

Agreed, these are three big wants for me: Early 90s bright color tights with the US Title Belt: Early 90s bright color tights with the replacement WCW World Title Belt. Basically his 1995-97 look, they could add two heads, one with the hair in the ponytail and one not in the ponytail and the WCW World Title he won from Hogan on Nitro in 1997. Not a huge want of mine but, this one would be cool too, add a soft goods NWO shirt and the Too Sweet hands and maybe a second soft goods shirt of the wolf:

I'm a big Luger fan, too, and I'll take any they want to make.
I'd like to see (would have liked) a Luger-Sting 2-pack to match the Galoob pack from back in the day I got as a kid.

I'm not a guy who collects/needs hundreds of different versions of the same wrestler, so I'm pretty pleased with the Stings we had from Mattel. The main 2 iconic looks I wanted were made (DM Crow and DM GAB) - along with another nice looking Surfer Sting, Wolfpac Sting and modern Sting. And some pretty cool Basics (and Retros) too. So no, I don't think they dropped the ball... I do agree that some of the part choices could have been better though.

WWE was so thirsty to finally get Sting to sign that dotted line and ruin him after all those years he refused to come to WWE.
Surely Mattel's handling of him is just a branching side effect from that strange grudge.

My biggest gripe with Mattel & Sting figures is the fact that they went with a painted on T-shirt Sting for the regular elite line, while the modern Sting with proper in-ring gear is a nearly impossible to get HoF Elite figure.

Wheres my Ringside screaming bloody SCSA 2pk with Bret? Mattel is just leaving me perplexed.
Sting, one of the greats, didn't get release after release. The ones released stunk.
Shame....

They did okay, they just put too much focus on his basics, I think. The guy has TONS of Stinger basics (many of which are kinda forgotten - the 2-pack with Undertaker, for example), but he had very few Elites with this look. They nailed it with the '97 DM Crow Sting, but they never got around to making his WCW singlet that followed this in Elite, which is a huge miss of one of the most popular times in his WCW career (Elite DDP in jeans says hi). The HoF figure has this general look, but it is very obviously based on his WWE 'run' and not WCW. We got the longer-haired singlet Sting as a basic, at least.
I'm just glad we got that Wolfpac figure and '97 Crow Sting out of it. Those are great figures. I wanted a bright orange, green, or blue Stinger as an Elite, so I held off on his others aside from GAB. I really disliked the shirtless torsos they used for him, so his basics never appealed to me very much.
Maybe in 3 years they'll get another crack at him.

1. Sting wasn’t in NXT so he wasn’t a priority.
2. They made a 2 pack to commemorate the time the son-in-law flattened him that nobody asked for.

The biggest travesty of justice was the fact they didnt make a Retros Surfer Sting. For all of us who grew up having to mix our Galoobs & Hasbros, we didnt want a god damn Crow Sting from the mid/late 90s to add to the Hasbro collection. We wanted the proper early 90s Surfer Sting.

The DM Crow Sting was a legit awesome figure imo. Other than that, the rest of the figures were a mixed bag. We never got the definitive Surfer Sting figure. Sting is my favorite wrestler of all time so I hope his AEW figures top what Mattel gave us, and I expect they will.

The only problem is that the scorpions should be higher intersecting the singlet and that torso does not work on those legs. It’s way too thin... The figure looks un-proportional. Other than that, I used elite hawk arms on mine. I’m hoping that AEW will give us a better proportioned Sting with accurate boots.

Halloween Havoc 98 Wolfpack with goatee and Duster Sting
Sting from the 9.16.96 episode of Nitro (final appearance of the surfer sting)
Both should’ve happened.

I don't know of any pro wrestlers who are that thin. They messed up the Mr. Perfect Elites by using that upper body on all three, and it doesn't work for him or for Sting. It's just bad.

Yeah, it works great for the various incarnations of Sean Waltman, but that’s about it.

They did a number of Sting figures, but they concentrated too much on the current run. They probably could have gotten away with just one current older look as an Elite, then maybe the 2 pack with HHH, but then concentrated on classic looks. The DM is perfect, in my opinion. We should have had a few more classic surfer looks, and in my area the basics did not stick around long. I don't think I ever saw any of the Crow basics when they were out.
One thing is that we have had a ton of Savage and Warriors, but they have been signed since the start of Mattel's coverage, so 10 years now - Sting only had half that time.
This is why I think we should have these high profile Legends in constant rotation. Virtually every Elite lineup should have Hogan/Flair/Rock/Stone Cold/Warrior/Hart/Shawn/Undertaker in it. That alone would give us one of each of these a year, and I probably missed a few others that could be included.

I owned 2 Sting figures, his DM Crow figure and his WWE Debut figure. I traded off the WWE Debut one. If I recall correctly the WWE debut Sting was a tad bit shorter than DM Crow Sting.
