It feels like WWE is turning into WCW.
AEW is becoming the WWF Attitude Era by coming up with exciting characters and promoting their wrestlers like big timers. While WWE is becoming the same old story like how WCW used NWO and their wrestlers well past their prime in popularity.
What you think?

if an emo skater, drunk cowboy, 50yo "rock star" who is in the middle of his 4th mid-life crisis, 60yo with a neck made of rubber bands and a wrestler JR cant remember which pronoun to use are considered "exciting characters"....wrestling is doomed.
While there's some positives/greats like Omega, Rhodes, Lucha Bros, FTR etc....AEW is very much like 2000/2001 WCW...A pile of nobodies that cant get over and a bunch of old farts that need to move on and a spattering of great talent who people will get burned out on because they're carrying the whole damn company.

1: Why open this up in the WWE board and allow a platform for entertainment marks?
2: Please give this a mercy lock.

I think the same people who put AEW over and dislike WWE are gonna crap on WWE in the thread, the WWE fans who dislike AEW will crap on AEW in this thread, and the mediators who are reasonable will see the points on both sides. so nothing new here.
I think the main wwe product is stale, nxt is hit and miss but moves slowly as a product, nxt uk is great at times, AEW takes risks that can be awesome but also downright stupid. this seems to be the general take people have when they aren't die hards for any specific company.

While I really can't see this thread evolving in a way that can facilitate discussion, I'll give it a shot because this is far from the first time these comparisons have been made.
I don't think it's really fair in either side to say they are like their predecessors. We live in a different wrestling world than we did 20 years ago. I understand the desire for comparisons, but I don't think the situations are really all that similar or comparable. The only thing that's really the same is that there are two large wrestling companies again. Too many other factors in both companies to make it that simple imo.

I think marks sabatoged this industry.
I love PWG Wrestling; I love the new moves and diversity. But everything in this era seems so try hard? 50/50 booking; spot fast indy fan boy matches. And just having matches bc they're good matches without any story or barely any form of a style. I just don't find enjoyment to much in any product. I think any product who fights with WWE; ends up being WCW.
TNA in 2010; tried very hard. AEW feels like WCW having baby with some of early TNA.
Everyone hires WWE excons; and legends. And combines them with some upstarts; and tries to go to war. I think another major company is a good thing. AEW has a rightful place; and it's good to have some form of a alternative. Current state of Pro Wrestling; doesn't seem that fun at all.
I wish we truly had something that could revive this mid/late 00's vibe of Wrestling that still is progressive. And it's hard for me to find that even medium.

That's literally the whole freaking promotion.

And it can be clearly seen many of these stars; trends; have been cookie cut by the WWE. And has manifested in the WWE; in a weird WWE way. And I think the fanboy culture has found it's way into WWE.

This is spot on. WWE is a brand and has that feel that no other company will touch. People always reference pro wrestling as WWE/WWF and nothing else.

An honest critic would not say AEW is at all like 2000 WCW. AEW deserves criticism just like WWE does but this is a terrible comparison that deserves very little credence.

Up-and-comers like Sting, Goldust and Chris Jericho will turn the balance of power in wrestling. They are truly the new Rock, Stone Cold and Kane. McMahon family in shambles trying to rely on old-timers like Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre and Sasha Banks. In 1999, WCW took a bleached blonde second-generation wrestler who was a bland midcard talent, and put him on TNT pretending he was a main event level star. His name was Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett then created TNA and booked himself as one of the top guys. Now Cody Rhodes continues the legacy.

The only thing that's holding AEW back. Is that there stuck in the "Indy" mentality. Obsessing over the "Cool Spots" And "Holy crap" moments. Everything JR said is right, they won't take his advice which they should, most of the wrestlers seem to be more focused about putting themselves over with there friends. Hence why some of them are pissed with his comments.
Plus hiring some talent because there friends with each other, as well as the more bitter ex WWE talent. It's pathetic at times, I want to watch wrestling. Not another WWE dig, time and time again. It's childish and stupid. They think it makes them look cool, like ECW back in the Monday night wars.
Is this a wrestling company or some big boys club?

I don't know how many people have actually watched the dying days of WCW, but current WWE is a fair comp if we're just talking about how terrible the booking is or how unwatchable Raw is.
I wish VKM would let someone else book the 400 people they have signed. The wrestling landscape would be better if WWE was better.
