It was risque of him to do it, but I think it's being over analyzed. It's a submission move, a good one and he used it, that's all.

^ Who knows what Benoit did to his son. The guy was nuts at that time, so he could've done anything, even The Crossface to his own son. I wouldn't rule it out. But anyway, I was shocked when he applied The Crossface to Orton tonight. And I'm sure it WASN'T a tribute to Benoit or anything like that. Why would a christian like Shawn Michaels who happens to have a wife and two kids want to pay tribute to a guy that murdered his wife and son and then hung himself?? I seriously doubt it was a tribute to Benoit at all. Exactly, he probably used it because it is one hell of a submission move and it gets the crowd pumped.

^ Yeah, it is a hell of a submission but it was basically made famous by a guy that murdered his family. I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing they let him do that move because the very first thing I thought of when HBK slapped it on was Chris Benoit. And I'm sure that's the LAST thing WWE wants fans to remember at this point.
It was a very risky move on WWE's part to let HBK do that move, but whatever. He did it and there's nothing we can do about it.

Except in this case, it was used to murder a 7 year-old child. A punch has killed people. So that's banished in wrestling now? It's not like Benoit invented the move or anything. Bingo. Dean Malenko invented the move.

The Sharpshooter was made famous by Bret Hart. The Ankle-Lock made famous by Kurt Angle and lastly, The Crossface made famous by a murderer, Chris Benoit.

The reason people found it shocking was because it was made famous by Chris Benoit. It has nothing to do with it being a move that existed pre-Benoit, it's just that WWE has been going out of their way to avoid almost everything that resembles Chris Benoit's career and he as a person. HBK doing a move he never does not too long after the Benoit murders was a bit strange to see when WWE are so intent on erasing Benoit's memory. Just like the sharpshooter existed before the Harts, the crossface is associated with Benoit and he's the first guy most people think of, and when WWE keep erasing his memory it is very odd to see it again.

o shut up people. stop drinking WWE's kool-aid or how theyre never gonna associate themselves with benoit. Eventually, they will again. the Crossface was made famous by benoit, and he might as well have invented it. your a dumbass if you go "how was that associated with benoit?". you know damn well that wether its using the most famous submission moves, or whatever, its a reference to Chris Benoit, and you know it. 10 million jaws hit the floor tonight, and its not because its a damn cool move. Everyones's in shock, because its Beniot's move.

You people are idiots. Seriously. How is Benoit going to do the crossface to his kid? His kid would be to small to do it. A modified version wouldn't even work. The fact that you people spice up the story and say that "the news reported the crossface was used to kill his son" is dumb. The news said a chokehold. The most feasable is obviously a rear-naked choke.
You guys just love finding something to bitch about or say is "controversial". It is a f***ing wrestling move. Get over it.

Anyone else think it was just to be controversial? Obviously he chose the Sharpshooter, the Crossface, and the Ankle Lock for a reason instead of the Texas Cloverleaf or anything.
To say it's just a wrestling move is ridiculous because most wrestling fans associate the Crossface with Benoit. It was just for shock and controversy.

beniots son was suffocated and a chokehold could have been as simple as his fingers around his neck it didnt have to be a wrestling manuver if I stangle someone with me hands isnt that choking them with a hold? tabloids said it was a "wrestling move" to generate more buzz

HBK pulling out the crossface was definatly surprising. I don't think any of us saw that one coming.
