So, the question in the title of your thread 'Is Flair really that good?' is pointless because as you point out yourself, he is constantly put over as a 16 time world champion. I think it's safe to say that if your given a world championship that many times that your pretty damn special. Unless you're a certain 11 time champion and you really only worked your ass for maybe 6 of them.

YES...
Ric Flair ruled back in the day. Honestly if you look at him now... nothing special, but you look at him in the seventies and eighties and early nineties, and the man was the greatest.
Why do you think his match against Hogan pre-nWo was the highest grossing in WCW PPV history. Because the dominant heel, and dominant face of pro-wrestling came head to head.

The only people wo argue the point of Ric Flair's greatness are the people who have only seen his recent stuff.

This got me thinking, and I figured why not ask. If it was not for his 16 World title reigns, would Ric Flair even be that well known? I mean seriously. Other than the '92 Rumble, Flair has done nothing but have those World title reigns. Maybe it is just my thinking but.... SAY WHAT?? For those of you who are not familiar with Ric Flair's career accomplishments, here is a list of his championships won during the last four decades: WWE Championship (2 times) 1/19/1992, Royal Rumble: won 30-man Royal Rumble for vacant title 9/1/1992: def. Randy Savage WCW Championship (6 times) 12/27/1993, Starrcade: def. Vader 12/27/1995, Starrcade: def. Randy Savage 2/11/1996, SuperBrawl: def. Randy Savage 3/16/1999, Uncensored: def. Hollywood Hogan 5/15/2000, Nitro: def. Jeff Jarrett 5/29/2000, Nitro: awarded from Kevin Nash NWA World Heavyweight Championship (8 times) 9/17/1981: def. Dusty Rhodes 11/24/1983, Starrcade: def. Harley Race 5/24/1984: def. Kerry von Erich 8/7/1986: def. Dusty Rhodes 11/26/1987, Starrcade: def. Ron Garvin 5/7/89, WrestleWar: def. Ricky Steamboat 1/11/1991: def. Sting (became officially recognized as WCW Championship) 7/18/1993, Beach Blast: def. Barry Windham Intercontinental Championship (1 time) 9/18/2005: def. Konnan World Tag Team Championship (3 times) 12/14/2003, Armageddon: w/Batista, def. the Dudleys (Tag Team Turmoil) 3/22/2004, RAW: w/Batista, def. Wll here is anothr question. Would he have gotten those gigs had he not won all those titles? Uhhh, yes. He got them because he was over, he could work the mic, and he could out wrestle just about anyone in his day. It's sad how people can be disrespectful little pricks to the history of this business, and the people who made it. Half these guys bitching about Flair are probably the ones who make a creamy mess in there pants for Jeff Hardy

To me, Ric Flair is one of the most over-rated wrestlers of all-time. The guy had the exact same match with every opponent he faced, whether he was a heel or a face, for 20+ years.

Flair back in his prime could put on amazing technical wrestling matches, now he can put on amazing hardcore matches (Foley, Edge - TLC), so yes!

In all damn seriousness, how old are most you you Flair bashes? Did you live through the era? No, so you have no right to claim he doesnt mean anything. Ill admit to not living through much of the NWA era Flair, but I did see most his WCW stuff (pre-Russo). The guy is one of the best of all time, get over it.

Yes, the endings to his matches were always different - but that was due to the writers. The bulk of his matches were him doing the same things over and over and over again, though.

Having seen just about every match of Flair's since 1983, I think you're wrong. While a lot of his spots were similar, the same can be said for just about everyone. Flair had certain spots he would hit in every match, much like Austin, The Rock, Hogan, and pretty much all of the greats.

Glad you read Bret Harts book Honestly though who doesn't do the same things in all there matches? Michaels does, Hart did, Austin did, Rock did. Everyone has stuff they get in EVERY match it's part of making a character.

WTF! Ric Flair is a God in this industry. Even if you take away the World title reigns, you still have a talented guy who could in his prime carry anyone to a solid match, he could work heel or face, was an intense & quality interview. Even now the broken down version still has the timing to make what he does count, I'fd rather see Flair do a move for a reason than see Jeff Hardy's latest stuntman impression.

like someone mentioned earlier one of the reasons flair is great is because he helped to make other guys. If you look at guys like Dusty, Steamboat, Sting, Magnum, Kerry, even Arn and Tully, they would never have been as big if they hadn't been linked to Flair. He still does it today, unlike Hogan who comes in from time to time and beats the young guys, Flair wrestles weekly and doesn't have a problem making guys like MVP, Kennedy, or Orton look good

Ric Flair has done ALOT for wrestling in his career in his day was the best there was, however he is not the best there is today. In his old age Flair has become very overrated and why not? Time cathes up with everyone. Sure he's tainted his legacy by not letting it end until now but he deserves to call his own shots and I for one applaud him for his efforts over the last thirty seven years. Ric Flair will never be forgotten and I for one think that yes he is 'really that good'.
