Man, I am watching a metal show on Fuse right now, with an original title such as "talking metal" Anyway, I used to be such a huge metal head as a teenager. Nearing a quater through the age of 21, I am finally watching something about metal, and then realising how ridiculous the people were in the genre that actually listened to it. Everyone was so closed minded and angry that it just ruined talking about metal to anyone. So here's my little rant, starting with the beginning. Black Sabbath- Sure I can understand why people like them, I could never stand the band, but in the 'metal' world, if you didn't like this band, you were a poser. Then it got to the point where if you liked this band, it was because of the reallity show with ozzy, therfor listening to them made you a poser. That never really bothered me, but everyone STILL says this is the 'darkest' band in metal and nothing can out-do the classics. I found that to be ri-god/damn-diculous. I understand that music is subjective, but if you're so close minded to think this is the heaviest band then I would just say, You need to open up to your mind to more music. It might be the 'first' but to never 'go forward' is just ridiculous. So you don't like the classics- If you don't like the classics, you are a poser in the metal world. If you like Nu metal, your a poser in the metal scene, you can ONLY stick to the classics. Isn't that fun? I remember, at one point, I got yelled at because I called 'HIM' a metal band, which they are. If people consider Ozzy metal for a song like 'Bark at the moon' how can softer 'metal' bands or heavier metal bands be considered poser? Poser= WHY is that even an insult? Fashion- After watching this 'talk metal' show, they really don't know anything outside of that style of music. It seems to be more about fashion than anything, which is ridiculous. If it's not metal, it sucks. Remember that!

I guess I am one of the few people in the world who couldn't give two craps what people think about what I listen to. If I wanna listen to Madonna, I do. If I wanna listen to Snoop Dog, I do. If I wanna listen to Ozzy, I do. Who cares.

I guess I am one of the few people in the world who couldn't give two ****s what people think about what I listen to. If I wanna listen to Madonna, I do. If I wanna listen to Snoop Dog, I do. If I wanna listen to Ozzy, I do. Who cares. It's not about what you listen to. It's the fan base. If you love something, you like to talk about it. In the metal music world, you can't. Even when people like the same stuff, you can't have a good conversation with someone with metal unless you like the EXACT same thing. If you don't, then it's impossible to even discuss a guitar riff without being wrong.

The only problem I have with Metal is how generic many of the current bands sound. It saddens me that lots of the metal bands I loved a few years ago have either broken up (Pantera, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana) or changed their sound so drastically I find myself disinterested (Korn, Deftones, Metallica, Marilyn Manson). Current metal acts like Atreyu, Bullet For My Valentine, In Flames, Still Remains, and Lamb of God do nothing for me. I need more than screaming.

I like heavy "music" as such, but I hate singers that constantly scream or sound like they are burping under their breath, which alot of 'big' indy bands nowadays sound like to me.
I also dislike songs that sound like full-song solos. While they must be quite talented to do so, its a waste. Songs like to, to me, have little to no structure or melody, which I feel makes the song.
Still, anything over emo.

I gotta agree with the theroy of the fanbase being very close minded. I had a "friend" once who listened to basically nothing but metal and if it wasn't metal it was pure crap to him. One day another friend of mine who was an Emo fan found a bunch of bands on his iPod that were Emo, not metal, and told him so. After he found out about this "horrible tragedy" he said "I gotta delete this crap now!". Even after he LOVED listening to those particular bands and sang along to those songs on the radio.
I later asked him "Who's the poser? Me for liking Metallica and bands like Fleetwood Mac and Michael Jackson or yourself for selling out your belifes?" He never talked to me again after that question.

You can't even talk to fans about their music. You can't like certain cd's past certain time periods. You can't like certain members, and one point, you couldn't even like hair cuts without getting a ton of negative reaction. You like Jason or Rob, that's okay, but you have to say Cliff is the best You can't like the Black album, because it sold well. You must always tell other people that the lead singer should dope himself up again to write better songs. The only thing I really ever cared to say bad about Metallica, is WHO in their right mind ever thought Frantic tic tic tic tic tic toc was a good idea

As a long-time Metallica fan and MetClub card carrier, you're basically right.
I'm seen as an "outsider" Metallica fan because Jason was my favorite, Load is my favorite album, thought they looked cool with the short hair, and that St. Anger was an important record that saved the group and more importantly James Hetfield. I'm also looked at weird because I like Lars over James. Meh. Still the other mindless drone fans doesn't make me hate the band and it never will.

Load was a great album, I actually liked both the load albums as well. The only songs that stick out as 'bad' to me on those albums was a song Jason Newstead wrote, or had something to do with in the making (which was rare) I just remember the lyrics had to do with "touching the sun, one by one". Other than that, great albums. S&M was amazing also.

Now, as for the Metallica topic we're currently on, they are one of my favorite metal bands. Yes, I think Cliff was the best bassist, but I liked Jason and Rob. I mean, Jason helped write one of my favorite 'Tallica songs (...And Justice for All), and Rob has got some great talent and I can't wait to see how he sounds on the new album. I wasn't to fond of Load or Reload, but there were a few songs I liked. The Black Album was good, but no one thinks about the other tracks. Everyone craps on 'Enter Sandman' or 'The Unforgiven'. Have you listened to some of the other tracks? The Struggle Within, Holier than Thou, Through the Never, and Of Wolf and Man are great tracks that yopu never hear about. I can't see why some Metallica fans are so stupid.

Oh shut up you little prima donna.
You're going off firing at all these insults at people who listen to metal and being just as bad as they are.
The reason Black Sabbath is so popular is that they got the ball rolling for metal. Tons of bands draw influence from them (and some rip them completely). After Black Sabbath, some guys in England were like "hey, this is cool, but it's not enough." Venom takes over, Maiden and Priest get things big, thrash metal rules in the Bay area, grind is born, metal explodes for good and bad alike.
There's "posers" everywhere. I for one think you are an excellent poser at being a civilized person when in actuality you're just a prick that sugarcoats everything to make himself look smart and validate himself.

Yes Tre, you read me very well. WHAT the hell is wrong with the mods here, god damn.
I never said anything about Black Sabbath and how popular they were, I KNOW they were popular, I know they got the ball rolling with metal, but many people just can't get passed that and accept other and new fresh metal bands. Hell, a lot of people can't even move past the 80's metal movement and it's ridiculous to even try to talk to those people about music.
You're the second mod in this topic to throw insults for really no reason at all. Love the staff, seriously. Is it really THAT hard to stay on topic without trying to bash people here?

Your opinion officially no longer matters since you called Tre a mod twice in one posting. Which means you're unobservant and have no place critiquing anything.

Korns new sound sucks, also the fact that jon davis is now so fat he doesnt look brutal anymore, he just looks like a pudgy creep. I havent heard metallicas new sound and i dont think i will anytime soon. L.O.G, BfMV, IF, and Atreyu are just screaming, and i absolutely hate that. Chemically twizted im now contributing to the convo...

Screaming is pretty hard to do. People don't give enough credit. You need to take care of your voice just like a singer would. Do lows and highs, annunciation. And singing wouldn't really make sense with metal now would it?
