MMAMANIA
Quoteworthy:
“If GSP beats BJ then you’ll see Silva v GSP — possibly at a catch weight. But if Penn beats GSP there’s no way I’d let him move up to 185lbs, no way. He’ll f***ing fight, argue and cry about it but there’s no way – it ain’t gonna happen, I can tell you that right now – it ain’t gonna happen.”
UFC President Dana White is all about a superfight between welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and middleweight champion Anderson Silva sometime in 2009. Of course, St. Pierre — who next fights lightweight champion BJ Penn at UFC 94 on January 31 — and Silva — who fights Patrick Cote next week — both more than likely need to win their next bouts for that to happen. Great idea and a colossal moneymaker. But here’s where it gets a little weird — White says he will not let Penn — a former welterweight champion who has competed against light heavyweights in the past — fight “The Spider” if he bests “Rush.” Penn has said numerous times that he would like to hold every belt in the UFC, but according to an emphatic White, it’s not going to happen. White is right in that Penn will more than likely raise a stink if he is not allowed to fight Silva … as he should be. It doesn’t make much sense, especially since Penn would have to vacate at least one title for it to happen. Hopefully, White will elaborate on the thought process in the near future. ======================
I honestly think Danas just looking out for Penns health. Although I can sincerely say that I think Penn could and would beat Silva IF they ever fought.

I say it's a health issue too, but not in a "Silva will him up" sense. Switching between two weight classes is stressful, but three? He's going to break himself. I admire the man for his desire to cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats, but this is one thing I actually agree with Dana White on. Bouncing between two weight classes is hard enough...I truly think three is impossible, even for BJ Penn. Just to make sure I'm not quoted wrong, I think there's nothing wrong with BJ Penn moving up and down weight classes every once in a while. But if you become a champion of two belts, it's going to be VERY tough to consistently bounce between weight classes. If Penn wins against GSP, he's gonna have his work cut out for him. The stress of constantly switching between weight classes will be pretty tough, as opposed to a one-off super-fight. Constantly switching between three weight classes, as opposed to switching weight classes three times to compete in one-off superfights...I truly think that's impossible to do without endangering your health. I know BJ's going to raise hell about this if he beats GSP, but I really hope Dana stays firm in this decision and doesn't cave in, even in the face of the huge buyrate a Penn/Silva fight would get.

While I am a huge GSP fan, I think that's bullshit. I'd love to see Penn vs Silva, especally since if Penn got up into the class he has a good chance at beating Spider.
But, I can't wait for GSP vs Penn, GREAT fight made.

I think Penn would get his ass handed to him in a stand up war with Silva...but if it were to go to the ground Penn would destroy Silva.
Even if this doesn't happen I am excited for 2009. Just hearing rumors of GSP vs. Silva is exciting stuff.

I agree Sandy Silva would KTFO Penn but I believe penn could find a way to get him down and do what he does. I think GSP might be able to beat Silva also. But its Anderson Silva. He deffinatly will make great fights of these 2 if they ever do happen and I wouldnt be suprised if he did win..

Definately. I feel like EVEN with Silvas wins over Franklin(x2), Lutter, Marquardt, Leben, Henderson, and a LHW in Irvin he is still a very underrated fighter. The guy doesn't get his due. I might be the biggest Silva fan here but when he fought Henderson I was hoping he would win but I had a feeling Henderson would knock him out. But Henderson got his ass choked out...it was amazing. That really cemented Abnderson Silvas Legacy.
But even after all those wins he is still the damn underdog in fights..it is amazing stuff...in a GSP fight it would be interesting as to what would happen...I think GSP crumbles under pressure and that is something Silva is known for bringing..so I would think Silva would take that fight...but it is a toss up really..

BJ beat Machida when Machida weighed in at like 205.
Now granted, Machida technically WON the fight, but if you go back and watch it, you can clearly see that, at no point, did Machida deserve the victory.

well I don't think Machida deserved the majority of his wins. Backing up and practically running from a fighter during the whole fight is in no way an illusive style. Especially without counter attacks. If that is considered illusive then Kalib Starnes is the master of that art form..

Machida sucks. I hate him. Silvas the best. Yes, better than BJ and St. Pierre.

Honestly, anyone who would argue that is out of their f'n minds. It's a matter of a strength and weight mismatch, if nothing else.

And that's just it. There's nothing wrong with being the best fighter in the world at your natural weightclass.
