I'm sorry, what was all that about Anderson Silva being the best fighter in the world?

You guys are un- ing-believable. Yeah, I know eh? We go from talking about the fights and then for whatever reason this "Shane Carwin" guy starts talking smack about Canada, so I felt obligated to retaliate. All it is, is a bunch of trash talk on a forum and that's as far as it'll go, so I don't really care. And to say that I don't know anything about MMA and only know wrestling, is a huge understatement. I know alot about MMA. I've been watching UFC from the very beginning in '93 until now, so I've learned alot from watching the sport. It has changed alot through the years. I definitely know ALOT more about MMA than this "Shane Carwin" guy thinks I do, that's for sure. Anyway, I think we can agree that we lost our cool or at least I know I did and I let my temper get the better of me and said some garbage that isn't really true at all. Back on topic though, I have been waiting so damn long for the Silva/Cote fight and to see it end like it did was a MAJOR let-down and disappointment. And I let my emotions and everything boil over and said some stuff I shouldn't have. I really wanted to see a clear-cut, decisive winner, but we'll have to wait another day for that. For now, Anderson Silva remains UFC Middleweight champion of the world. Anderson is a hell of a fighter and certainly deserves to be champion. I do hope they have a re-match when they are both good and ready.

I know it seems like Cote was doing good. He took Silva to the third round. WOO-MOTHERF***ING HOOOO...
I will call it right now. Almost all of Anderson Silva's fights from now on will go past the second round. Because fighters know that the first round Anderson feels you out...if it goes past the first round is when he attacks after he gets your timing down, etc...
So from now on no fighter is going to come in aggressive with Anderson. They know he is a counter-striker..
Okay...so this win for Anderson Silva does not count but the loss for kneeing Yushin Okami in the face does???
I'm confused. I just don't like when people try to go against the, majority. I know it might seem cool to go against Anderson Silva in every fight just for the slightest chance that he will lose the fight so you can log into your WF account and tell everyone "I told you so"...but just face the facts. Anderson Silva is the best pound for pound fighter in the world right now....It might sound like hype..a f***ing gimmick..but don't be confused, it is the truth. I hope Patrick Cote does get a rematch that way Silva can knock him the f*** out and shut everyone up.
It just seems like no matter who Silva beats he doesn't get the proper respect. He beat Leben, Marquardt, Lutter, Franklin(x2), Henderson, and Irvin....that isn't a respectable list of people he destroyed? I'm so confused..

Okalee dokalee, here's my thoughts.
Not the best event ever, but I'm still a massive Anderson Silva mark.
That's basically it, my friends. All good fighters are allowed a couple of lackluster fights. It really won't tarnish their legacy.
In regards to Fedor, I couldn't care less about who's best, I'm just enjoying being a massive fan of both of them. My heart says Anderson because I'm the biggest Anderson Silva mark in the world, but everything else (brain, gut, conscience, take your pick) knows that Fedor's at the top of the MMA Kingdom.
Still, you won't find me abandoning my membership to the Anderson Silva fan club because he played it cool.
So, am I let down? Not really. Not in the sense that I had high expectations. I fully predicted Silva to win, and I got what I wanted. I feel bad for Cote, and would like a rematch. I think that if it had gone further, eventually Silva would've snapped and started letting loose. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though.
So, all in all, Silva didn't fight a BAD fight, but he did fight a very relaxed one. I would HATE to think that he's no longer trying. Hopefully he turns it up a couple of notches in his next fight, which is rumored to be a Light Heavyweight bout.
So, that's pretty much it for me, guys: it's MMA. craphappens. All we can do is get whatever good we want of it, learn whatever lesson we want from it, and know that they can't all be PPV of the Year.
And seriously, stop with the stupid Canada thing.

^ Anderson Silva deserves all the respect/props in the world. He's a deadly, deadly fighter and a few times he scared the hell out of me watching his fight with Cote last night. One of them being the jumping, spinning front-kick. That was ing awesome and I'll be the first to admit it and I'm sure it certainly caught Cote off-guard. He wasn't expecting that, that's for sure. Just like I told a fellow co-worker a few days ago, if you stand with Anderson, you lose. If you take him to the ground, you lose. You've got to be really smart and VERY careful on how you want to fight Anderson Silva and Cote was playing it safe and lasted until the 3rd round until an injury called a stop to the fight. I think Anderson was about to turn up the heat and take over and try & put Cote away, but as you pointed out, **** happens and freak injuires can & will happen. I just think it'll be such a shame that if Anderson does defend his belt again against another contender and ends up losing, then where does that put Cote into the mix?? He won't get his championship re-match with Silva then and then we won't know for sure who would've been the decisive winner out of the two. We all have our opinions on who we THINK might have won but until the two people who are doing the fighting step in there and get it done, we just won't know for sure. We've seen FAR too many upsets in the past to prove the point that ANYTHING can & will happen and any fighter can lose to another on any given night.

If you resorted to personal insults and are wondering where your post went, I deleted it. So basically you did all that typing for nothing.
I could have done what other mods do and just have you all warned, but I'm trying to be lenient. Keep it civil, guys.
I know I'm just a mod on a toy collector's message board and that means I know nothing about MMA (Shane Carwin), but since you choose to post here, you choose to follow the rules. If you think that little of me and other mods, you're welcome to go post on Sherdog, where every poster is a certified MMA expert. [/sarcasm]

^ Meh...tbh he didnt show me any thing...he lasted that long because he wouldnt press and anderson wanted him to come to him im sorry did you watch the same fight I did..because I saw for 2 rounds Anderson Silva dancing around like an idiot...like a cocky idiot and engage an attack a few times..with few being successful..Cote chased him around that ring and was the aggressor throughout the night.., Im sorry but to me Silva was acting like a cocky bunghole last night, and I had that fight scored 1-1 at that point...

Anderson has the right to be that cocky. But we shouldnt be suprised. His attitude has changed majorly after all his retirement talk...

People have some really odd (and at times, terrible) opinions about this fight.
I've managed to catch a majority of the match, and obviously it wasn't like most Anderson Silva fights. He didn't destroy his opponent with strikes, or outclass the guy in every aspect, so I can see why many are disappointed. Still, it's not to say that Anderson put out a particularly bad performance. Things just didn't end with a "bang" and unfortunate circumstances caused the match to come across as disappointing.
I'm baffled that anyone would praise Cote for lasting 3 rounds. I'm sorry, but this isn't some amazing accomplishment. For one, it's not like he gave this crushing challenge to Silva that made the fight last so long. He wasn't fighting Silva tooth and nail, or posing all sorts of problems to him. Him making it to the 3rd round isn't some grueling display of guts and stamina. It was just Cote fighting a very calm fight, and Silva waiting way too long for him (Cote) to do otherwise so he could counter attack.
I'd maybe just praise Cote for not being foolish enough to fall into Silva's countering traps. If you're going to rag on Cote for not pressing the action, then you have to do the same towards Silva. Silva wasn't exactly doing much by simply waiting for something to counter. If you're labeled as the best in the world (and I do agree with that in many regards) then you should be able to get things done if your opponent isn't willing to engage enough. This wasn't exactly Quarry/Starnes 2 in terms of style, so it's not like Silva had no ability to get to Cote and fight.
In the end, this is still a very forgettable match for Silva since the fans have been spoiled with his past fights. I feel he'll be overly criticized about this, but I won't agree with any of it unless he does the same things in his next fight.

Just got home...My Feet and Throat are soooo soar. A little upsetting to see the main vent end like it did. I didn't know what happened to Cote's leg until I got back to the hotel that night.
Sherk vs Griffin was my favorite fight of the night, the whole arena was booing Sherk to hell. I like the guy, but I like Griffin too, so whoever was going to win that fight was fine by me.
Junior Dos Santos vs Werdum was CRAZY! The roof about tore off that place when Werdum got KO'd
And I couldve swore I could here Alves leg kicks to KOS all the way from my seat.
Pretty good night all in all, just had a let down for the Main event.

I feel bad for Silva because people are going to look for anything to criticize him on about his fights. So this is not going to go around for awhile..unless Silva puts on a stellar performance in his next fight. But when Silva does lose..or I should say if he loses in the UFC people will say he lost it, he isn't the same anymore, he doesn't have the passion, blah blah blah...When you reach the top there is no place to go but down.. =/

The funny thing in the fight was when Silva offered to help Cote up. I honestly chuckled for a little bit.

Ya know when you have friends who aren't really into MMA, but they're curious? Well I have a bunch of those friends, and I invited them over for UFC last night.
Bad idea. The ppv had a shitload of descisions, and alot of so evenly matched fights, that if you didn't know anything about MMA, you'd say it was boring. So all through last night, "this fight is still going?" "this crapis boring" then after like 2 fights they start "how many fights are there? theres been like 10 already"...because apparently the fights bored them so much, it felt like a billion fights.
But I was really banking on alot of finishes, and it being an exciting UFC card, but then again, not everyones going to be great, and it was just badluck that this was the one they watched first.

Cote doesnt deserve ****....he was scared to throw for majority of the fight..he walked off fine by the looks of it.. Patrick Cote is a ing **** and makes me ralize why Canadian fighters not named St Pierre suck ing cock We have very different opinions on that mainevent. I was happy Patrick played it smart, and IMO he was doing just about as well as Henderson was. Would patrick have won? IDK, probably not, but the guy went in there and did what he could. I'm looking forward to the rematch.

First off I was impressed with Sherk's win, great stuff
Then after months of my bitching that Werdum is getting screwed out of a title shot & that 2009 will be his year I was shut the hell up. DAMN!!
Koscheck has continued to improve his striking but Thiago so much better & great takedown defence.
Then the main event. I'm a huge Anderson Silva fan, however I felt his actions here were seriously bordering on being disrespectful to Cote. He wasn't as aggressive as recent fights, al;though in part Cote wasn't pushing the fight either which was no doubt made it difficullt for a counter fighter like Anderson. That seems to be the only way to approach Anderson now, stand back & make him come to you cause if you charge at him you're getting sparked.
