Man, If there's one UFC event that I am psyched for, it's this one. I cannot wait for this card. It should be awesome and I'm really looking forward to it. Here's the official card: Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar for UFC Heavyweight Title Kenny "Ken-Flo" Florian vs Joe "Daddy" Stevenson Nick Catone vs Amir Sadollah Gabriel Napão Gonzaga vs Josh Hendricks Demian Maia vs Nate "Rock" Quarry PRELIMINARIES Dustin Hazelett vs Tamdan McCrory Jorge Gurgel vs Aaron Riley Jeremy Stephens vs Rafael dos Anjos Mark Bocek vs Alvin Robinson Matthew Riddle vs Ryan Thomas When the Brock/Couture fight was announced a while back, I said to myself then and I'll say it again now, I am calling a Brock Lesnar KO victory over Randy Couture. Couture has been KO'd a few times in the past by much smaller opponents and I guarantee you that Brock Lesnar punches much harder than Chuck Liddell. If Chuck can KO Randy twice, I believe Brock can too. I've made a few bets and my money is riding on Brock all the way. I hope he brings home the gold. It should be a tremendous card and it's only 10 days away. I can't wait!!

WOOO! GO HAZELETT, BROWN AND GURGEL!
Now that I got that out of my system.....
Couture vs Lesnar = I'm picking The Natural out of pure experiance and kick ass greco roman 'rastlin.
Ken Flo vs Joe Stevenson= I pick Ken Flo, BJ Penn gave us proof that Joe Daddy can be cut, and Florian has some razor sharp elbows.
Nick Catone vs Amir Sodallah= I'm going with Amir, I see his training at XC and his training with Forrest Griffin really giving him the win factor.
Gonzaga vs hendricks= The only way I see Gonzaga getting the win is if he gets Hendricks to the ground and practically lays on him the entire time, or throws as many punchesas he can risking gassing out. I think this will be the most boring fight of the night.
Damian Maia vs nate Quarry= I like Quarry, but sadly I think Maia's just too skilled with BJJ for Quarry. I'm giving it to Maia.

Definitely going to be an epic night, for sure. I'm actually going to pick Lesnar for this one.
To me, it just feels like Brock won't have any problem dealing with whatever Couture can throw at him.
I'm still hoping that, some way, we get Lesnar/Mir II for a Title Unification Match at UFC 100. I think it's possible.

I am very excited about this fight. I'll definitely be going out to a bar somewhere and watching as I don't have cable at home.
Most of the card I have never even heard of as I don't get to see many of the fights anymore. I keep up with some of the older big names and watch a lot of their stuff on youtube, but I haven't seen a lot of the up and coming talent.
Randy Couture is my all time favorite and I'm a big fan of Brock as well. I'm actually going to go with Brock on this one because I feel his size and strength will be a big disadvantage for Randy. As said previously, Randy has been knocked out a couple times and I think Brock has the power to knock him out again. I still hope that Randy digs deep and pulls this one out. I too would like to see Mir Lesnar II though.
Stevenson vs Florian - Stevenson
Catone vs Sadollah - Catone
Gonzaga vs Hendricks - Hendricks
Maia vs Quarry - Maia
On the undercard the only one I would like to see is Mark Bocek. I've seen him fight before and enjoyed him.

Maia vs. Quarry is going to be very entertaining. Maia will take it. He will pose the only threat to Silva imo.
when the hell is Franklin vs. Henderson?

Lesnar is going to win. Couture is pass his prime. Never count out Couture. Im not saying he is going to win. I actually hope Brock does. But counting out Couture is not the right thing to do. They counted him out in his fights with Chuck, Gonzaga, Sylvia, Tito, etc. Look what happened there..

God I've never been more pumped for a UFC fight, this fight is absolutely huge.
Whilst I think Lesnar is a bad match up for Couture and pretty much outmatches Couture in most areas the more I think about it the more I think Couture is going to pull out the win, should be an epic fight.

I think Lesnar will pull out the win, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Lesnar can do when he's brought down to the mat.

I'd honestly be shocked if Couture tries to out-wrestle Brock. That'd just be terrible game-planning. In the beginning rounds, hell I'd even say most of round 3, if Randy tries to take Brock down, it woud be a terrible idea. Couture would get bench pressed off, or eat a huge knee or just get stuffed and then eat a few good shots. I'm thinking in the later rounds 4 or 5th (if it makes it there of course) Randy should definitley go for the take down. Brock's conditioning is amazing no question about it, but with his size he will slow down. Couture IMO is probably too small to mount Lesnar, but if Randy is able to catch him with a shot on the feet or simply take him down then get side mount atleast, he should be able to finish him. Damn thats a lot of if's .

Yeah, never count out Randy Couture. He's one of the best of all-time and just when you think you've got him beat, you realize you don't. He's got you beat and it's over. I don't know if it'll go the distance or not.
We know Brock can at least go 15 minutes. We saw that in the Herring fight. Can Brock go the full 25, especially with someone as experienced as Randy Couture?? Only time will tell...

Only time will tell... you also wanna think, can Brock go 15 minutes or more while he doesnt have a dead duck under him. Most of the time Herring was down, he wasnt really trying to do much. Im sure Couture will be more active, puttin the pressure on, ya know, actually making Lesnar work. I think the Herring fight was a BREEZE for Lesnar but when he is in there with Couture, its a different beast. All in all, Im pumped for this fight. still sticking with Couture for the win.

I'm gonna go ahead and sticky this thread a week in advance, since there's a ton of interest in it.
There are so many variables in this fight, which makes it hard to call. Should be very interesting.
On one hand, you never count out Randy Couture, nor do you write him off just because he's old. I think we learned that lesson in 2007. BUT... even for the best of athletes, age eventually does catch up to them. Age will catch up with Randy Couture as well. We just don't know when it will happen.
It's been over a year since his last fight, and with Randy being 45, age will continue to be a legitimate question, no matter how many times he proves himself. One of these fights, he's going to step into that Octagon and be a step or two slower, a little less powerful, and a little slower to block shots or sprawl. It may not happen vs. Lesnar, but it will happen.
On the flipside of that, Couture is a brilliant strategist. It's safe to say he'll do several things in this fight to take advantage of Lesnar's inexperience. It might be something as minor as a tricky way to improve position, or it could be something blatant like going for advanced submissions. With Lesnar's inexperience, it may only take one tactic like this to totally change the fight, if Lesnar can't figure out how to escape/stop it.
For Lesnar's side, his strengths happen to be things that can totally stifle a fighter's game plan: Punching power, size, weight, and athletic ability. As we saw in the Herring fight, Lesnar doesn't need to throw a technically precise punch in order to send a guy blowing like a tumbleweed across the canvas. Couture isn't a glass jaw, but is his jaw as strong as Herring's? How many times can he eat that kind of shot before his body tells him that's enough?
The strength and weight advantage will be more meaningful in this fight because of both guys' wrestling ability. Wrestling saps your strength, and if your opponent is that much bigger than you -- and works a good amount of time from the top -- it will sap your energy over the course of the fight. I don't think Couture will gas out, but if Lesnar can tire him enough to make his shots/strikes a bit slower, that could be enough to turn the advantage in Lesnar's favor late.
(Edit: to fix a typo)
