Someone had an interesting idea - take out the international breaks, make the PL seasons 3 weeks shorter (using the international breaks time) then have a month of internationals at the end of the season. Would be much better imo. There's more leagues inthe world than the PL. Plus, if your key player is out for a month, that's you ed. PL is an example, the international calendar runs on European time anyway so it would still work if all European leagues are up to it. Yeah but that's football isn't it? If Messi was injured in from April 1st-April 30th he'd miss Barca's CL quarters and semis, plus 4 or 5 key league matches that could swing the balance if Real weren't so far behind. Internationals would just have the same problem. It would definitely make internationals more interesting, most people loathe international breaks so this could improve the system.

The Scandinavian leagues run through the summer. So its more flawed than you think, I do wish something like that was in place though.

True, but my point is that those leagues are ignored in the current system anyway with summer World Cups and Euros. So this proposed system would ignore them, but the current system does too, so it doesn't really matter in that respect.

I agree with Mike. The international breaks are terrible. Have the season start on September 1st (or the first weekend after Deadline Day) meaning that players can play the internationals until mid/end of June then have a few months off. Also means that we won't see teams struggling for the first three games before they get a settled team.

Have a player that blossoms at the start of the season, gets a months worth of injury at the end and have him miss ALL qualifiers? No ta. It would also be terrible for people wanting to go to the games. 5 abroad trips in the space of 10 (I assume) weeks? Terrible, terrible idea. Going to the football's bad enough as it is without making it near impossible to go to the away games.

Boring match last night. Good to see England actually dominate a team and score loads for once though.

I don't hate international breaks, just when we miss a whole week of club football for friendlies.
Also, ty Wales. Easiest 50 quid I ever made. Who cares about betting against your country. I wasn't missing out on 5/1. Those should have been the odds for a Scotland win.

Anyone watching the Confederations Cup? Some great goals so far: Neymar's opener, Pirlo and Suarez's free kicks. The Spain game was worth staying up for. Inestia and Fab bossed it, then Suarez scored and Spain started lumping it up the pitch. Tahiti were class too, giving necklaces to the other team at the start. Only watched the first half of that so I missed Tahiti's goal. The fans loved them. Them vs. Spain will be a must watch. Spain to win, Brazil second possibly.

Nope. Boycotting it after they ruined the first game with Brazil & Japan, the commentary was like 90 minutes ahead of the picture ffs -_- completely ruined Neymar's cracker.
Under-21 tournament was a really good watch especially the Netherlands (loved watching them in the '07 tournament too), didn't watch the final as it was predictable and because of the Netherlands being knocked out in the semis.

Brazil's defending for the equaliser was tragic. Out of the realistic challengers for the 2014 WC I want Germany - I despise Spain, if Brazil win I'll never hear the end of it from my Brazilian flatmate, and if Argentina win the Messi bumlicking will increase 10 fold. Germany are my only option really, but even if they weren't I do like their team and style of play. Was rooting for them in 2010 once we were knocked out.

Was at the Scotland vs England game today. Cracking atmosphere. Trafalgar Square taken over by the Scots, although there was the odd Englishmen who were a good sport. When the tartan army were singing 'stand up if you hate england' they would sit down. At one point they were up with a group of Scots and was waving an England scarf. Also sang to another Englishmen 'you're just a crap Jimmy Saville' and he was singing it as well. All in all a great day with a very crap result.

Gutted we couldn't snatch a draw or maybe even the win last night against England. We had some good spells!
Would love it to be something to happen annually!
