I want to start watching some old ECW as I didn't see much of it at all when it was on. Therefore i was wondering if any of you guys could help me with some things, please?
When was ECW at it's best and most brutal. (what year) Has anyone got any rosters from 1995 onwards? What year were, dreamer, rvd, taz, dudleys, foley, funk, rey, psicosis at their peak? Also when did ecw tv shows start to get televised (what year)?
Thank you for any info guys. Looknig forward to watching some of the old ecw, based upon your recommendations.

Personally, I prefer 1996-99 ECW, but there were good (and bad) matches and angles every year they existed. As far as the prime years for the guys you listed, I would say...
Dreamer: 1995-2000 RVD: 1998-2000 Taz: 1996-1999 (best matches were 97 & 98, in my opinion) Dudleys: 1997-1999 Foley: 1994-96 Funk: 1994-97 Rey: 1995-96 Psicosis: 1995-96
I'll also mention that Yoshihiro Tajiri was awesome in 1999-2000. His matches with Super Crazy were great, and when he turned heel, it was even better. If you only saw Tajiri in WWE, go out of your way to check out his original ECW stuff.

Thanks for your very good input. Did you think that ECW on hardcore TV was better than on TNN or vice-versa? Is it true that it was toned down for the tnn shows? thanks.

I think Taz was at his peak in 97-99.......man he was awesome.those matches against Bam Bam Bigelow were unreal. I reckon RVD was consistently good all through his ECW run-he did some great stuff with Jerry Lynn in particular was never too into the Dudleys...always prefered the Eliminators,Public Enemy and the Pitbulls

If you want to see some good stuff, check out Hardcore TV 95-97. Honestly their best years. 95 had Benoit, Steiners, Malenko, Eddie, the Raven/Dreamer saga, and the rise of Raven. 96 was the true rise of the Eliminators, bWo, Shane Douglas, Jericho, and like 95, you've got 2 Cold, who's always been entertaining to watch, also the Raven/Sandman feud, and the breakout year of the Dudleys, Taz, and the Taz/Sabu feud. 97 has the big push years of Dudleyz, Douglas, the return of Terry Funk, the WWF/ECW feud, and the Triple Threat. Also along those years, fun apperances by The Harris Brothers (Bruise Brothers), Brian Lee, Terry Gordy and Steve Williams, and others.
I recently got in HC TV 97, and I'm in love with it.

i think some of the best matches on ECW on TNN were the matches between, Little Guido (Nunzio), Super Crazy, and Tajiri. there were some good ones with the Sandman and Rhino. if you really wanna see some good classic ECW, go find every single Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn match from ECW, those matches always stole the show. if you like really crazy sh** from ECW, check out New Jack vs. anyone. Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka are also a good series of matches, and also if you like the Awesome vs. Tanaka series, chech out their stuff from FMW in Japan, that's good stuff as well.
hope i helped you out a bit.

Thanks for all the input. So the best year for cruiser action in ECW was 95 and 96? When did the dudleys start hitting off their hilariously straight shootin promos?

Heatwave '98 and Hardcore Heaven '00 are a must to see ECW on PPV IMO, I agree with Hardcore TV being awesome from '95 - '98, especially '96, with the angles between Raven and Sandman, The Eliminators and The Gangstas, Brian Lee and Tommy Dreamer and of course RVD and Sabu were awesome...

The best thing about ECW on TNN... in my opinion.

I think Johnny Lawrence has it about right. ECW was at it's peak in the mid '90s, before the WWF and WCW started giving big $$ to ECW wrestlers. It always had some talent but I think it was really stacked from '93-'97 or so. While the TNN show was good, the earlier ECW was unfiltered and innovative so get your hands on as many DVDs as you can.

Go with 3 Best Of DVD's that got released and it will pretty much get you started off on the right foot. Like was said above, Heatwave 98 is a MUST own too.

I pretty mush agree with him. I would however say 1995-1999, with my favorite year being 1996 and 1997. And ditto about Tajiri! His matches against Super Crazy were awesome! IMO ECW on TNN was awful. It didn't do justice for the old ECW.
