Sting is God. He's unlike these indy spot monkeys who don't tell stories in the ring, they're all acrobatics. Sting's name will still draw more fans than anybody you dream about becoming TNA World Champion. I really doubt that Sting would draw as many fans as someone like idk, John Cena? And the ratings haven't shown that Sting is doing anything special with the fans anyway.

Sting is God. He's unlike these indy spot monkeys who don't tell stories in the ring, they're all acrobatics. Sting's name will still draw more fans than anybody you dream about becoming TNA World Champion. Sting is not god, he was a decent wrestler for his whole career who happened to have a couple of really good matches with Ric Flair but since then has not been involved in anything major himself. He has leached his name off onto other big things. His wrestling career is still solely based on his matches with Flair and his time spent in the NWO. Other than that, Sting isn't really anything major. People say Hogan was right place right time? No where NEAR compared to Sting. And even in modern days, Sting is like a lesser version of Ric. Ric had the good sense to get out when he knew it was time to get out. For the last few months leading up to Wrestlemania, Ric really wasn't putting on outstanding matches but pulled one of the best match he's had in ages, arguably in his career out on his last match. That is the way to go. There is no way Sting can have that kind of retirement match. Why? Because no one really cares THAT much when the Stinger retires. The man who could really give him a retirement match he deserves has already had the best send off possible and to **** on that would be a travesty. Sting is not god, he's the object of a fantastic wrestler in Ric Flair and the bi-product of the biggest thing WCW ever did being the NWO. Granted Sting used to be able to hold his own in the ring but the only classic matches he has ever had were against Naitch. And now everyone seems to think the entire wrestling industry owes Sting a favor but the way I see it, it's only because he's still hanging around. Sting needs to either start building some talent with the name value he has and stop leaching off the wrestling business or just retire altogether. I am sure that people like Kurt Angle, Booker T, Kevin Nash and the like have a big enough name that they can rub off on some of the younger talent. Look I'm not here to defend the Stinger on his current state but your definition of his whole body of work is all kinds of wrong. See I believe in a yin and yang theory in professional wrestling. Every face needs a great heel to be relevant. The same way a great heel needs a lovable face to be relevant. Ric Flair and Sting, Big Van Vader and Sting, Four Horseman and Sting, Muta and Sting. All strong heels against the lovable face. It takes two to tango. Look at Hogan for example. Hogan made a living off of working against Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Iron Sheik, and Andre. Without those feuds no one would give a crap about Hogan. Sting was WCW's Hogan the same way AJ Styles is TNA's Sting/Hogan today. You can also insert John Cena in here as well. John Cena is clearly Hogan 2.0. They are the go to guys. They put asses in the seats. Especially little kid asses. For all of Ric Flairs accomplishments he was never as big of a draw in WCW as people would have you believe. See Flair and Sting needed one another. Sting made Flair relevant to a younger audience and Flair returned the favor by making Sting credible in the ring. So as far as I'm concerned Sting is a legend and an icon in wrestling. He is certainly not some second rate minor league Ric Flair as you have stated. Sting will always be one of the greats in my opinion. That being said. 2009 Sting is killing me. He can't go very well in the ring even though I think he is trying. I can't stand that he never works house shows. Which is more a gripe I have with TNA than Sting. Still it is lame that the champ is never at house shows. He just doesn't really fit in right now and I really want 2009 to be his last year. I want him to go out strong but at the same time passing the torch to AJ clean. Of course these are just my opinions. Sorry for the rant.

Sting's name will still draw more fans than anybody you dream about becoming TNA World Champion. You don't understand what "putting over" means, do you? Sting can still draw without the belt. Are people more likely to go see a TNA event because Sting is the champion, than they would be if someone else was the champion? NO! That's the entire point, which you clearly have just decided to blindly overlook. Putting over guys is a time-honored tradition in pro wrestling. Something that helps to cement your legacy, in fact. When your career is nearing its end, you do your best to help guide the younger guys into taking your place for the future, when the company will need new guys to draw. ... Not to mention, it's not like Sting is some amazing draw. He doesn't even work house shows! If he was the only draw TNA has, like you're making it out to be, TNA would be closed right now. The guy is WELL past his prime, his "mystique" is completely gone, he can't keep up with the top young guys in the ring, and he's way overpaid for what he does.

I was trying to say something like this but I had to many things on my mind and just general dissatisfaction with Sting to say it as eloquantly.

To be honest and I'm gonna be reeeeally honest Sting hasnt put anyone over from what I've seen. He tried to with Abyss but he was already an established character, I dont think Sting has given a rub to anyone yet. A clean PPV loss to AJ for the title would be fitting but has he faced off and truly helped any other young stars get over?
Bash Jeff Jarrett all you want with his monoply of the world title a few years ago but he has helped put over younger stars as has Kurt Angle (Jay Lethal in particular). Kevin Nash also spent a lot of time working various programs with the X-Division helping put them over and develope their onscreen personas.
Booker T helped put over Robert Roode in their program as did Christian and Raven with Kaz.
Sting has done what exactly? I cant even seriously recall when he has been pinned or made to submit on any TNA PPV ever and he has won every main event/world title match he's been on in a BFG PPV ever. To be honest off the top of my head the last wrestler I can truly recall Sting putting over was Vampiro in WCW. That was 9yrs ago!
In all honesty Sting was WCW's top face until Hogan arrived and then after that he was their go to guy for a solid main event. His wrestling is still sound and he's still a top guy in the ring commanding a solid performance on par with Undertaker per say and not limited by injuries or age a la Hogan and Flair but he needs to follow through with his "help the young stars" promise cuz all I see is NWO.
They killed one promotion, will lightening strike twice?

Your shoulders don't have to be pinned to the mat to put someone over in essence. If you make the guy look good, they can get over just fine. Very true.

I think the time line of a legendary wrestler should go as the following...
-Rise to stardom -Peakness -Giving back to the biz -Last run/Fading away
Now Ill be honest, of everyone thats been named I feel only Styles and Dainels could have successful careers outside of TNA. Joe and Abyss I seriously dont see every going anywhere. Sure Joe can go to Japan or ROH but anymore thats like saying you were on the under card at a USWA event. Stings time to "give back" and put people over were in the dying days of WCW and honestly there really wasnt anyone there to put over. Who was he going to give the rub to? Kidman? Elix Skipper?? Flair gave the rub to Orton, Batista, Cena but Flair was also in the WWE where superstars are made. I dont blame Sting for not giving the rub to anyone, I blame TNA for not making a star to give the rub to.
