Oh. Maybe you should practice with something you can actually debate. Just a thought.

I don't think it was Coughlin's fault they lost. Eli simply didn't make plays when he needed to in that game. The defense was playing to conservatively, it just went wrong. Probably because Eli Manning isn't very good. If Jeff Fisher is coaching, he doesn't rely on Eli Manning to win games against good defenses like the Eagles'. He runs the ball like a maniac, uses play action to expose the Eagles' aggressive defense, and likely wins with a last-minute field goal. I'd like to spark up a debate with you Kliquid, in order to practice for the season when we will no doubt be arguing over various NFC East topics. I'm saying Steve Smith is the best receiver in the NFCE and the best slot receiver in the NFC. There's absolutely no way that Steve Smith is the best receiver in the NFCE. The NFC East, overall, has a pretty weak WR group, but come on now... I think DeSean Jackson, Santana Moss, and Roy Williams (when he actually tries) are all better than Steve Smith. As for "Best slot WR in the NFC," I think Steve Breaston was pretty clearly the best slot WR in the NFC. He also was able to step in and be productive as a No. 2 when Boldin was hurt... I also think you could make a case that Bobby Wade is up there, despite him not having the big play ability.

I also think you could make a case that Bobby Wade is up there, despite him not having the big play ability. 1. Smith makes big plays on 3rd down that nobody else makes. The Giant's led the league in completion % on 3rd down. I need to find the website that has these stats, but I'm 100% sure that's true. 2. He's nearly unstoppable in the slot. He's almost always open because he knows the defensive coverage and where the holes are. 3. It's more than having stats. How Smith works shows he's a smart receiver. He's fast, has great hands and keeps the driving more times than not. And TRW, you can stop being a sarcastic jackass. I'm bored after graduating, and have nothing else to do until about 7-8 tonight. Cut me a break. Ralpho, I don't think it's bias coming from a Giant's fan. I don't think the Giants are the best team in the NFL. I don't think Eli is the best QB in the league. I don't think they have any "best players" on their team.

I wasn't being sarcastic in the slightest.
You can post all you want to about it. My point is that if you want to practice debating sports, you shouldn't pick something as hard to debate as that topic, because it's pretty far out there.

I understand that it's "more than stats," but the best receiver in a division doesn't have one touchdown in a season. Sorry.

I think all of the NFC East defenses will be top-10 this year... So I could see that.

What do you think of the Skins signing Haynesworth?
In all honesty, I don't think he's going to work out so well. Snyder could have spent the 100 Mil on something they need. Like offensive linemen, possibly another stud receiver.
I hope the first play the Giants run is just a handoff to Jacobs up the middle to test Haynesworth.

Haynesworth could have been voted MVP last year. The impact he made for the Titans was ridiculous. He literally got blocked by two players on something like 95% of plays last year; yet still dominated in run stopping AND was able to rush the passer.
The Redskins finished 4th in the NFL in total defense last year, behind only the Steelers, Ravens, and Eagles.
... THEN the Redskins added Haynesworth in free agency and Brian Orakpo in the draft.
Yeah, the Redskins' defense will be good this year. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had the best defense in the league.
That said, the Redskins' problem, as you said, has been the offense... So I don't expect them to be a powerhouse, anyway.

You've also gotta factor in that he was playing in a contract year. And I don't think the offensive lines of the AFC South compare to the offensive lines of the NFC East. The Giants have the best run-blocking line in the NFL, and a top 5 pass protection line. The Cowboys have a very solid line, the Eagles made improvements. Then you look at the backs, who once again trump the AFC South.
To say that Haynesworth is going to have the same impact on the Redskins as he did on the Titans is a bit farfetched. Not saying he won't have an impact, because he certainly will, I just don't think he is going to have an MVP caliber season.

No, he won't have an MVP season because defensive players don't win MVP anymore.
But anyway, yes, he was playing in a contract year... Despite that, he has been a dominant force for a few years now.
Haynesworth is probably the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL. So yes, he will make a big difference for them.
Not to mention, him and Andre Gurode hate one another; so that outta be interesting.

Top to bottom the AFC South offensive lines are pretty good, the exception being the Jaguars last year who were obliterated with injuries and unfortunately the Richard Collier incident. And is it just me or do the NFL threads always end up going back to the Giants in a roundabout way?

I'm just saying that the quality of the AFC South's lines aren't as good as the NFC East. By the way, does anyone know much about Travis Beckum? All I've been hearing is that he's like a WR playing TE and can create mismatches with LBs.

And is it just me or do the NFL threads always end up going back to the Giants in a roundabout way? Yeahhhh, it does... But that's probably because the majority of people who post here are from the east coast. Not to mention, the Giants are a recent Superbowl winner, so all of the 'closet' fans expose themselves for awhile.

I was born in New Jersey. Where do the Giants play? New Jersey. I lived in Montvale, which was like 25 minutes away from the Meadowlands.

I wasn't calling you out at all. Most of those 'closet' fans came out after the Giants beat the Patriots... Remember all the idiots that had, "omg teh giaents did it!!11!! 18-1 lololololol" in their profiles?
Those are the idiots I was talking about.
Some of them still post here, but yeah, it happens with every team. It happened when the Steelers won this year, too. A bunch of people who were blatantly NOT Steelers fans were suddenly on board.
I mean, it's just typical bandwagoning. It'd happen with any team. I'm just saying that it probably has to do with the amount of bandwagoning with the Giants that the discussion here often turns to the Giants.
