Honestly...Jeff Jarrett is perhaps the most overrated wrestler in the history of pro wrestling, at least in terms of attaining so many titles while offering very little; he is average in the ring, average on the mic, absolutely average in everything. The only reason he has racked up so many titles in the first place is because..he booked himself that way. He pretty much booked himself as the NWA/TNA World Champion for almost four years straight, from Nov 2002-Oct 2006. Yeah he lost the belt numerous times but ultimately it always came back to him and he was the only one who was a consistent main stay in the main event, constantly going over everybody.
Now this isn't soo different than what guys like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair and Triple H have done, in that they've all held the strap for excessively long time periods and had a strong say in doing so. But those are three of the greatest overall wrestlers in history, and they had the ability to connect to the crowd in ways Jarrett never could. Jeff has always been nothing but the whiny, annoying heel you boo because you just can't stand seeing him on your T.V. screen. In those regards he was successful at what he did but that was largely because he constantly freaking won. He was annoying as hell, going over the entire roster...people did not want to merely see him lose..they just wanted him off their screens forever..he has never been able to connect them in any way besides being an annoying belt-hog that drew tremendous amounts of heat simply because everybody knew he was booking himself to be the top dog.
Okay...he's the founder of TNA. I'll give him that. But really you guys act like he deserves heaps for praise for doing what he did..he definitely helped the company a lot when it was a fledging upstart business. He helped it get off the ground. But really...I don't feel as if Jarrett is so essential to the company anymore. Or if he ever was really. Not to undermine what he did; I just feel as if many, many people could have done the same thing, perhaps even better. No doubt TNA has made it far, but they still need to go so much further. And TNA hasn't made much progress in the last few years. They have gotten a few nice things like 2 hours and the like but as a whole the company has not improved by leaps and bounds. It draws tremendous amount of hate all over because people know it could be so much better. And I feel a lot of that could be attributed to Jeff Jarrett.
He may have been an " entrepreneur" of sorts, but what other choice did he have? WCW was gone, ECW was gone, and he sure as hell was never going back to WWE. Utimately I guess I have to sum things up like this..He took a risk, but ultimately I think he has benefited more off his creation( TNA) than his creation has benefited off him. He has cemented himself as a much bigger name than he ever was, extending his legacy at the expense of his own company.
There is just nothing all that entertaining about Jeff Jarrett. He has a bland look, a bland personality, bland mic skills, and bland ring skills. And I feel as if he is nothing but a determent to TNA's success at this point.
