Mark Coleman Pulls Out of UFC 106 Co-Main Event with Tito Ortiz by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Oct 06, 2009 at 8:45 am ET
Tito Ortiz (15-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC) said his opponent for UFC 106's co-main-event bout, Mark Coleman (16-9 MMA, 7-4 UFC), has pulled out of the fight.
Ortiz posted the news on Twitter overnight and stated he's awaiting a new opponent for the November event.
A source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Coleman has notified UFC officials that he will be unavailable for the Nov. 21 fight.
The reason is believed to be injury-related, though and as of Tuesday morning, the UFC had made no official announcement, and the bout was still listed on UFC.com.
UFC 106 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The night's main card, including the headliner of UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, airs on pay-per-view.
The upcoming fight makes Ortiz's first since May 2008, when he suffered a decision loss to now-light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. At various time over the past year, Ortiz announced he was close to signing deals with promotions ranging from Affliction Entertainment to EliteXC to Strikeforce. However, over the summer, he ultimately made up with UFC president Dana White and inked a new deal to return to the octagon.
Coleman, a UFC hall-of-famer who returned to the organization earlier this year with a loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, had looked to build off his July upset win over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100. The victory was Coleman's first since a February 2006 win over Rua under the PRIDE banner – and his first in the UFC since February 1997.
Hmm....Oh well. I wonder what scrub UFC is going to give Ortiz.

Coleman's manager reportedly asked the UFC to push the fight back until January, but Ortiz refused.

f***ing lame..
..give Ortiz Jon Jones or Bonnar....I would love to see Bonnar fight Ortiz just based on all the sh** he was talking against Ortiz during his commentary on the Griffin vs. Ortiz fight.

Jon Jones is fighting Matt Hamill at TUF 10 Finale... but "Bones" vs Ortiz would be epic.

Colemans Manager gets personal (credit Cage Potato):
“The only thing Coleman is afraid of when it comes to Tito is contracting swine flu from that dirty ass d-bag. We all know where he lays his head down at night. Tito wants to get personal with a legend? OK, let's get personal - we can all go to our porn collections and watch what Tito sleeps with night after night.”
Ohhhhh SNAP! -------------------
Wonder who's going to fill in for Coleman. Rich Franklin? Jardine? Bonnar?

Damn, calling one guy a sissy is pretty light-hearted in terms of smack-talk, but attacking the man's wife is just plain low. How is it "getting personal" to call a dude a sissy? Who the even uses the word "sissy" nowadays? I've never been the biggest Tito fan, but you don't attack a dude's wife, even if that wife is the most famous porn star ever. This could be the start of a bit of a bitter rivalry.

Coleman is such a roided f***ing mess... I thought the guy had calmed down but I guess I was wrong..
I hope the fight does happen down the line. I would love to see Tito smash Coleman.

But yeah, his managre went a little too far. Update: According to MMAWEEKLY: "Coleman’s withdrawal appears to be due to a tear to one of his medial collateral ligaments. The tear was confirmed to Fighters Only by Coleman's longtime sponsor Mike DiSabato, who added that he has requested the bout be rescheduled"

How unexpected, a fighter over the age of forty not named Couture gets injured while training for a fight. Coleman is a legend, and a corner stone of the UFC, but he is just to old to go. This will require rehab and rest at the minimum and surgery, rest and then rehab at the worst. If Tito wants to prove he is still the bad ass he says he is then fight Bonnar and see if you can finish him faster the Coleman or fight Bones Jones and see how real both he and Tito are.

if this fight doesn't happen I say Tito should fight any of the following..
Forrest rematch Rashad Rematch Rich Franklin Bones Jones Lil Nog Jardine
A Rashad rematch makes the most sense considering their history with one another..

I wonder if Coleman's manager realizes that the fact that she is a porn star.......actually makes Ortiz cooler in the eyes of a lot of men.

Who the hell does Tito fight now?
It won't be Jon Jones, only because he would kill Tito.
It won't be Forrest.
Franklin? No.
Hammill? No.
Lil' Nog is wrapped up with Luiz Cane apprently.
...James Irvin?

It's one thing to know in your heart that your gf got bopped by a few guys before you. It's another to be able to look all of it up online and see dozens of guys bustin' rounds in/all over her. I tip my hat to him for having an attractive wife, but I'd sooner welcome being single than find myself feeling envy over his catch. Anyways, this kinda blows I suppose. Hopefully someone worthwhile is put in the place of Coleman.

I know it is a lot of guys fantasies to wonder what it would be like to be with a stripper or a pornstar...but actually BEING with one...kudos to Tito.. ..especially in the profession he is in.. people can always go for the low blow when talking sh** on Tito and just mention Jenna's past occupation..

I guess I'm not totally disappointed as I'm not a big fan of Coleman and would love to see a Ortiz vs Evans 2 happen but at the same time, whoever Dana and the UFC throw at Ortiz, if he loses all we will hear is "Oh it wasn't a fair fight for me.... I didn't have enough time to prepare for this guy, since I was suppose to be fighting Coleman....I trained for that fight." But regardless, I'm glad to see Tito back and I hope whoever steps in, makes it one hell of a fight.

wanderlei has made it quite adamant that he wants to stay at 185.
that would be an insane fight though...both fighters met at the beginning of their careers and what better way to setup a rematch than close to the end of both of their careers..

Wanderlei has said many times that he plans to fight in both 205 and 185.
