Yea but at the time Posey was one of the biggest reasons the Celtics won a ring. How has he proven he has declined? By playing for a guard heavy, small and poorly fielded NO team that has nothing in common with the Celtics. They are actually structured the exact opposite.
Posey brings defense, off the ball defense. How can you measure that decline? It's been better to Garnett with age.
I would have never let Posey go, they've been trying to replace him ever since. Nocioni is a fair player but I would take this as admittal that they miss Posey still.

Because giving a "role" player 4 year deal for 6+ million when you are already over the cap is not a smart move, acquiring Nocioni is different because the team is constructed differently now and because like I said, the window is smaller now and Nocioni is more of what they need...he is younger, more of a scorer.
Posey has SEVERELY declined this year, I know its still early, but he looks done. All his stats are down, he is playing less minutes and his +/- is downright awful. He was a + 48 last year and this year he is already clocking a -49, and I know a lot of that has to do with the team, but Posey isnt helping, he got real fast.
The Celtics should have replaced him last year, and not went after scrubs like Starbury and Mikki Moore, but letting Posey walk was the right decision. Celtics still would have not win the title last yeawr

Yea I get all of that, what you're saying.
My whole point still is, if you are going to load up and get Nocioni now (what has he really done to help a team win anyway?), why did you ever let him walk?
Danny Ainge isn't that smart as a GM is what I am getting at. You've let James Posey walk and since then you've thrown considerable money out of the window on players, such as some of the ones you've named, and haven't found a replacement for a guy who won a championship for you and did similar things for Miami when they won a championship.
To say Andres Nocioni is a better fit right now because of age makes little sense. You guys are playing for right now, not the future. Nocioni has shown no signs of being a championship player or the defender that Posey is. Your team is based off of defense.
Posey was more than a role player for you guys. He was literally the second most important player on your team, possibly third. The things he did when Garnett or Pierce were out the game were just as valueable as when they were in the game, he held down a lot of defensive issues. He thrived off of the Celtics system, in NO they don't really have much for him to do in a similar manner. He's really an oddball because they already play undersized and offensively.
Meanwhile Boston is offering guys like Stephon Marbury money to come back and do what?
I just think when you've loaded up with a big three... you give money to guys like Posey if they command it. You're already out of the free agent race and it wouldn't change much in the long run for your roster's structure. Obviously it's a risk that he'll get banged up or decline but the same risk is there with Garnett. When he goes down ALL the cash wasn't worth it. Posey goes down you still go for it all.

ahhh screw all this talk the Celtics just came out and said they don't want Nocioni because of his contract. Maybe they read this thread cuz it was posted like directly after this came up in here before. yea right.
anyway, the guy gets hurt an awful lot, shots horrendous numbers from 3 point land and doesn't equate to a good defender. I'm sorry, taking him into Boston would be a boneheaded move

Nocioni actually isn't a bad defender... He isn't the type of defender Posey is, but takes charges well and really frustrates opposing players. Obviously the Cs are strapped financially at this time, but I think hed be a good fit because he's a hustler.

Shawn Marion is killing me in Fantasy... these 6 point 1 rebound games just aren't cutting it anymore. I traded him and Artest for David Lee, it's effective Friday I think.
Sure it's a borderline trade but I've got Carmello, Chris Paul (out for a bit), Aaron Brooks (fantasy year of his life right now) who all will make sure they are not missed. I needed consistent rebounding.

Dirk with another MVP-caliber performance.... 9-13 for 23 points, 7 rebounds, and a block in OT. Great win for the Mavs.

I saw some of that game last night in the second half, Dirk was unguardable. I think he ended up over 40 pts though.

Portland needs to start getting their craptogether, they've been lucky that their schedule has been so weak. They are having issues finishing games, three of their losses are attributted to late game failures(two against the Hawks and one against the Nuggets) and they almost blew away at least half of their wins.
At times they look brilliant, they have pretty much controlled every game they've played for 3 quarters of play but by time the 4th rolls around they act as if they've never met each other before.
They need to figure this out before their schedule gets rough.

Yup, ended with a line around 41/12/1 block, and 0 turnovers. When the offense is rolling through Dirk and his shot is falling, the Mavericks are absolutely unbeatable.

yea once again, he said he'd look into but "probably not" I'm against it, we need to give PT to guys like Toney Douglas and more shots to guys that might be there next year. its almost guaranteed by sunday night that Iverson will get an offer from the knickerbockers

Posey is overpaid, considering at best he is a role player that is. He's averaging 3 points a game..for all that money the Hornets are paying him. It's turrible, just turrible.
