The Mavs have beaten the Lakers and Spurs so far this year. Interesting. Minus Gasol and Parker. Weak sauce. The Mavs were missing Josh Howard for both games (and Dampier/Marion for the Spurs, and Gooden for OT)... All three teams mentioned have been missing critical players so that doesn't take a thing away from the quality of wins... Especially since the Lakers game was in Staples.

It's way too early to say something like that for sure. So far this year, Dallas has looked a lot better if you ask me. And they haven't been completely healthy yet.

You're right.. if kobe was kidnapped by angry asians and held hostage during the playoffs then yes dallas would have a chance im almost positive id take the defending champs with the best player in the nba who added ron artest over any dallas team. but we shall see

The spurs are highly overrated imo so w/e about them, But you really can't compare Gasol's impact to josh Howard's... hell you can't even compare him to Odom.

Denver I think has a better chance to win than the Lakers this year IMO.

Dirk has to shoot well in every second half of every game they play for them to win but this year he's looked like he's really found his shot forever. I mean, he was hitting shots that there were just NO defense for, over and over and over, last night.
Beating the Spurs without Parker wasn't that impressive, but it was impressive that they came from behind in the second half and then kept fighting through over time. That is what is a good sign for them, individually nobody can guard Dirk when he's on, and he's been on at the right times so far.
Here is a thought to consider... Dirk has less help than Kobe Bryant by far... but if both shoot poorly their teams usually suffer and lose.
I know I've trashed the thought of Dirk as a Franchise player, mainly because he's a big shooter, but Dirk goes on these offensive tears where he is unstoppable with his shot just like Kobe does. But Dirk's seem to last a lot longer during the game and his team depends on them more than Kobe.
Kobe has 4 other All-Star caliber players around him, Dirk literally has 0 at this point. Marion and Kidd are not in 2004 anymore and If Dirk had as much space that Bynum, Gasol and Odom can create for Kobe around him, he could drop 40 every night.
But I still maintain, if he shoots poorly or slumps they are screwed. When Kobe slumps, there is no excuse for the Lakers losing like they did to Denver last Friday.
Sometimes I think Dirk and LeBron James would quite possibly be the best combination of all time offensively.

Kobe has also been bothered by a groin all year. leading scorer in the nba. No one is better than LA until they get beat in the spring

Damn, I was hoping Iverson would go to the Knicks. As a 76ers fan, Allen Iverson is my all-time favorite sports player. And going to school in New York means that I'd get to see him play a lot on the Knicks. They really could use his help as they're 2-9, and nobody cares about this season for them. Moves like this and not trading Chandler for the 5th pick are a reason why they're still the Knicks, despite them moving in a better direction these last few years.

well this looks like the end for AI. My favorite player.. I've only ever rooted for him. Didn't matter which team. Go Kobe now.

Getting Iverson would take time away form guys they're trying to develop and Wilson Chandler makes about a million bucks per year for the next 3 years after this. For what he's shown he can do, that's a great contract.

Denver I think has a better chance to win than the Lakers this year IMO. PG: Derek Fisher vs. Billups= Billups is 10x better. SG: Bryant vs. Aaron Afflalo= Bryant, but Aaron has great defense on Kobe. SF: Ron Artest vs. Carmelo= Easily Carmelo. PF: Pau Gasol vs. Kenyon Martin= Gasol C: Bynum vs. Nene= Bynum Backcourt: Smith is better then Brown. Ty Lawson is betetr then Farmar. Andersen is better then Powell. This would be a pretty even game, but I agree, The Nuggets would get the win over LA.

You forgot about Odom who gives the Lakers a little more but when Denver is on a roll offensively, it's almost impossible to stop.
