If you're serious about being a tattoo artist, I'd suggest taking as many art classes as possible (even though you appear to already be good), and studying the wide variety of styles there are out there. - I'd also recommend they you be prepared to spend an assload of of money if you plan to apprentice under anyone. And, please, don't buy a machine off of the net or use a homemade one at anytime, on anyone. I'd absolutely love to learn how to tattoo, but I am deathly afraid of ever messing up on someone, lol. Eh, i'm not gonna tell the dude to not buy a machine, but like ABomb said, don't practice on anyone... no matter how much they say they want you too... fake skin, bananas and oranges can't complain if you mess up Do i need drawing classes A-Bomb? You better say no... Anyway, as some may know here i'm doing a nude female angel tattoo right now... i'm wondering, would it be able to be posted when i finish it? it isn't explicit and you don't really see anything... well... 'graphic'

Edit: Taker, no, you don't need any classes from where I sit, I've seen a LOT of your work, and have been impressed.
However, I still stick to saying no one should by a crappy machine off the net, even if it says 'professional.'
Well, if it means anything - if I would have gotten even half of the tattoos I 'wanted' when I was 15, I'd be plenty unhappy with myself. Believe it or not, I was 22 when I got my first tattoo, and to be totally honest - I wasn't happy then either.
I didn't know a damn thing of what I know now two years later. I'd at least, sincerely wait until being 18 before getting a tattoo.

img357.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=gedc14152398136.jpgjust took a few pictures of some recent work. The Lionheart thing is based off Have Heart " Lionheart" lyrics. Incase you cant read it it says " Tell Me what the you have put your heart into?" Also, undertaker, I think things through alot, and I want to use my talent as a part of my job, and I'm really into body modification and such. So It seems like the perfect job for me. And I want that Title Fight tattoo on the inside of my forearm, like under the crease of the elbow.

Well good... i can't judge how much you are 'behind' the idea so i can't really say much I will agree with ABomb tho, if you can... try and look into possible art lessons, you've got talent there, but there is refinement that can take place (don't take that as criticism, take that as constructive advice). Again, i've been designing tattoos in some form or fashion for the the best part of 5 years and have been drawing for most of my life and while i don't want to make myself seem like an 'expert' because in my opinion i'm not... but if you do want any help, advice or other stuff just ask me or anyone in this thread

I just turned 19 a few days back and I've still yet to get anything done.

Yeah after highschool I'll probably take an art school for a year or so, I dont want any type of 'real' actual college, theres a really good art school in detroit though, so I'll probably go there.
I prefer using faber-castell pens, they're basically like really thin high quality makers, because its permenant, you know, not erasable so its more like tattooing you know? If I do screw up I just use a little white out. For shading I use an older one thats a little dried out so its kinda gray.

Or... you could just not rub them out... seriously, markers (whether they are thin or thick) are a bad idea if your wanting to produce tattoo style art as they don't change tone under pressure like pencil. Also, they are going to make shading scratchy which is the total opposite of what a tattoo's shading should look like. Seriosuly, i'd invest in a scanner/printer so you can make multiple copies of pencil work if your worried about losing them before i use a pen for shading... really yo should only use them for outlines at the most

---xfallx, if I were you, even right now, I would go and spend some time in a shop - and a good one at that. Just ask if you can sit and watch a few guys tattoo for a day. I'm afraid you have a very narrow and generalized idea of what tattooing is, and asking questions pertaining to 'why are you using that, doing this, blah blah blah' might help you out.
It's great if your family is friends with a renown tattoo artist, and if he is willing to let you apprentice under him for free, that's great too.
But you are only 15, and I know it sucks to hear that, but what might be like a good idea for a tattoo now, could come at the cost of a liftetime of regret later on.

I do spend alot of time in tattoo shops, Eternal tattoo is like 15 minutes from my house, I'm friends with most of the people there. The Faber-Castell pens I use aren't just like normal pens/markers, they have really fine tips and shade with pressure, if you look in that gallery again and look at the self portrait , ( the one with me in a hat and button up) you can clearly see the shading. I still use pencils, I just prefer my pens. heres something I did the other day. All pens, like I said, you can shade with them depending on the pressure you use. I may be 15 guys, but I've grown up around adults and people with tattoos and piercings my whole life so I'm pretty big on this kind of stuff and pretty smart about this kinda stuff.

That piece proves my point... take a look at this Thats block shading, you can clearly see where one colour starts and one finishes... i can see three tones and it isn't the picture quality, also the shading in the shark is the same because all the grey shading is roughly the same tone, the only difference is where the pen is a little scratchier. Look at any flash art on a tattooists wall, there are smooth gradients done with pencil I'm not picking this apart for no reason, and i'm certianly not doing this for fun, i'm doing this to help you improve yourself

Place the picture of the boxing gloves you did (or i think you did... doesn't really matter) next to any other piece in your gallery... which has the smoother and better shading? Quick tip for improving your water? Use pencil

I'm just trying to say, you CAN shade with the pens. It may not be as good but still, I like it.
I did do the boxing gloves by the way.
p.s. the black on the gloves is all pen, the only part thats pencil is the red.

There's zero actual shading in that--like what Undertaker was talking about. Also that last paragraph comes across as a huge HFP moment. Never, and I mean absolutely never, think you couldn't stand to learn more on a subject. Irrelevant to whatever it may be, whatever or however much you may know on the subject, or whatever. You can never learn or know 'too much'.

Theres shading there dude, just not smooth, lol. Also, I never said I didnt want to learn more or didnt need too. I'm just saying I already go to shops and ask questions.
I just did a cool flash design thing. I'll probably post it tomorrow though, I'm off to bed.

Judging by the location of the tattoo... Looks like a happytrail/pubes combo. Gross Am I the only one in society that shaves the top of my pubes so I can walk around with my pants lower than anyone would realize?? I probably shouldn't disclose this but Kris trims...he also shaves his armpits. I hate hairy armpits and feet. Oh but the skull is neato HerVoiceResides...hmm and you know Bullet For My Valentine is a very attractive band. Very nice looking set of boys :-)
