It could be coinsidental that they all wore clothing with American flags on the same day but it is unlikely. It seems as if they have worse them to start trouble, but still... sending then home because of this is rediculous.

This is bulls***. I don't give 2 flying f***s if it was Cinco de Mayo, or not. This is AMERICA! We should not be lambasted for patriotism. F*** that s***. And so what if they all decided to wear an American flag on their shirt on the same day? That shouldn't f***ing matter either!!! It's stories like this that piss me off beyond all belief..

they should have just let the kids carry on until some angry mexicans taught them a lesson.... Yeah! They need to learn better than to wear the symbol of the country they were born, raised, and are currently in on their shirts! They should have know better. Viva la raza!

When you use patriotism to mask your hatred and intolerance, that's not cool.

When you use patriotism to mask your hatred and intolerance, that's not cool. Tell me. Would you think the same way if you were the one sent home for wearing an American flag on your shirt? I've learned that people - like in this case - will say it was unacceptable to wear an American flag on their shirt - but if the show was on the other foot, they wouldn't be so fast to defend those who were "offended" and "disrespected."

Sarcasm aside, its one thing to wear the american flag, and if it was one pupil who did it because thats the kind of thing he wears, fine, so be it, the point is these three decided the day to practice their patriotism was a mexican holiday and at their age, youd have to be pretty foolish to think it was for any other reason than but to cause a controversy, therefore while i think sending them home is a step to far, it may have been in their better interests if it was upsetting fellow pupils.

I have 3 different shirts that are all patriotic, one of which is a military themed shirt that says USA, one is an American flagged themed Tapout(kind of like the video), and a plain white with with a flag on it. I wear at least 1 of those to my classes(grated I go to college not HS) about once a week. So if I just happened to go to this HS and I just happened to wear one of my shirts that day, I would have been sent home too. Over wearing a USA flag, IN AMERICA, on a Mexican holiday. I'm really not seeing the case anyone's trying to present here. Honestly. Had they showed up decked out in "Mexico sucks!" shirts or wearing something obviously offensive, I'd understand, but no, not in the least.

Do you also own american shoes and shorts and have two buddies who also "coincidentaly" show up in American flags on a mexican holiday in a school with many hispanic pupils? As i said, you wearing your shirt on a mexican holiday, fine, youve not considered the fact its a mexican holiday, its not offensive, this had been PLANNED to cause controversy

It's pretty obvious the group of friends planned to do it in order to get a rise out of people but it's not like they were running the halls yelling "USA!"

Sure they were obviously trying to stand out and send a message by sporting the American colors, the same way the local HS kids around here walk around wearing Che Guevara t-shirts and Mexican do-rags, sporting "Brown Pride" tattoos on their chests or/and stomachs. Maybe not every kid in the cafeteria that day wanted to listen to mariachi music while they ate their lunch that day, but they were forced to sit and bear it, the same way those "offended" SHOULD HAVE been forced to get over these kids wearing t-shirts that affect them in no way, shape, or form.

Also you have no insight as to how these kids were acting, so there is no evidence to say if they were or not affecting others by acting intimidating etc. Just because its your country, you have no right to be insensitive to other cultures(Im not saying you, but in this case, these three kids) If they had some sort of political objection to the festival then they could have dealt with it in a more mature manner...

Yup, I have no idea that these kids weren't just trying to be proud dicks by doing what they were doing, which also mean that you have no idea that the Mexican's who walk around shooting me go-to-hell looks every day when I'm shopping or jogging, sporting nothing but Mexican pride clothing aren't doing it just to spite me since I'm American/white(granted my mother's parent's are from Juarez). So that argument is a lost cause. I fully agree that one of America's most attractive features is diverse cultures, but just because you're of a different culture doesn't mean I have to put mine on the back burner just for yours. American heritage isn't even celebrated a fraction in Mexico the way Mexican culture is celebrated here. The authority figures telling them "Either go home and take of the shirt sporting the symbol of our country or you're all in big trouble!" was the mature way to go.

Sounds like these kids were just trying to be funny & ironic (not acceptable), and the school handled it all wrong.

Obviously they wore the shirts on the day they did for a reason, but it shouldn't matter either way. They're being patriotic, nothing wrong with that. If they were wearing shirts directly degrading Mexico, I could understand, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

The school was wrong and the district should tell them off. They can wear whatever the they want to wear. Don't cry to me.. Get over it. You can wear your shirt and they can wear their shirt. Mind your business.
