While I don't agree with the usage of the word "overrated," I don't really understand the appeal of Mass Effect. I tried playing it and I just couldn't get into it. Couldn't get used to the controls and found most of the initial homebase map (whatever that world is called) confusing to navigate.

People usually use the term overrated when referring to a game that they suck at, which sounds like GOW for you. People are usually considered dicks when they get on other people for having an opinion on a game, which would describe you. Gears is a game that gets a lot of praise and recognition and the op doesn't feel like the game deserves it. So what? I've beaten both games and I don't think they are that great either. They aren't bad but they certainly aren't amazing games that blew my mind like the reviews would lead me to believe. It's an opinion, get over yourself.

I won't use the term overrated, because I don't think the games are terrible... but, I find myself scratching my head at the popularity of the Halo series, the Gears of War series, and Modern Warfare 2.
Halo just can't hold my attention. I hear all the time about how magnificent the story is, but I just can't seem to understand it. A buddy of mine, who is a HUGE Halo fan tried to explain it to me once, and I thought he was speaking a different language. The gameplay also makes me wonder. When I pull RT to fire a weapon in a shooting game, I expect it to feel like the rounds are actually firing out of the barrel, not like their softly gliding through a warm summer's breeze. That's what Halo's gameplay was like to me. There was no 'kick' to the weapons, and it made me sad...
So, with me wanting more violence from the Halo series, you would expect that something like Gears would be right up my alley, right? Well, that's what I thought, too. Turned out not to be the case. Sure, the weapons have that kick I was looking for, and the are blood and guts galore, but something was just off. Again, I think it was the story. I just couldn't get into it. Mainly because I didn't know why I was in a war, carving other creatures in half with a chainsaw rifle.
Then Modern Warfare 2 comes along. I'm thinking to myself, "Okay, I liked the first MW game. This should be pretty good." I would soon learn, however, that while it sure is pretty, it's only good in moderation. I haven't played much of the single player campaign, spending most of my time playing it online. Modern Warfare 2 online makes me want to take my Xbox and TV as far away from the internet as possible so I can escape the madness once and for all.
I'm not saying that these games are bad, because they're subjective to everyone's opinion. Given the choice, however, I would rather play something like Left 4 Dead or Alan Wake.

Well seeing as the topic starter stated " I hate gears of war, you have to be perfect or you die " then yeah, he basically did say it's overrated 'cause you have to be good at the game. so, calm down. Anyway, the most overrated ( based on critical acclaim ) is easily GTA IV, and i've never understood the hype around it, didn't enjoy the time i spent playing the game in the slightest.

I've always been a huge The Sims fan since the beginning but I played The Sims 3 and couldn't get into it. Its not that big of an upgrade to version 2(which I have all the EPs and add-ons). They left a lot of good stuff out from TS2 so I'll just continue to play TS2 since I'm still loving it..

Gears of War series. I could never get used to the movement of the characters and this really came back to get me when I played multiplayer because moevment is fairly important in these games. Not to mention shooting the crap out of people with shotguns, but not killing them, then they shoot me once and I'm dead.

I wanted to love GTA IV, but I just couldn't get into it. This. I feel the same way. I don't really know why I bought it.. But I would also add COD. Didn't care for it when I played it at my cousins house.

Pretty much everygame is overrated in some form by someone. But the ones that come to mind are MGS, GTA, Halo, Gears, COD, and pretty much all other big name games. While I love Halo, it is overrated by many.

Halo series and CoD series. Might be down to the fact I'm not much of an online gamer, nor am I massive fan of first person shooters, but I just don't get the hype with them. Couldn't imagine playing them for huge amounts of time like people I know, without getting bored at least.

Halo series, Gears of War series, God of War series, Dead Space, Modern Warfare series, Bioshock, and Portal. I don't hate these game. I just don't understand why people act as if they are the greatest greatest game ever made. 100% with halo games, never liked them. It was hyped so much like it was the best game in the world and its not. So many better games then Halo.
