What an interesting trip it's been.
I started out on WF as a wrestling fan, quickly became an MMA fan, became Mod of one and then two boards, and then was asked by the owner of RSC to head up MMAFigs.com. Other than a few stumbling blocks where I lapsed on my duties due to personal issues and the like, I've tried my best to make MMAFigs.com the best place for UFC action figure news and views. I've had the chance to work with and even interview some incredible people, and I can safely say that I don't ever think I'll leave MF as an admin.
About two months ago I accepted a writing gig for Total MMA, which got me back into writing full-scale articles. While I would go on to only write two articles for the site, those two articles effectively rekindled my love for writing articles, which had waned due to the fact that I was doing my podcast. While the job didn't pay, it gave me a lot more than I thought it would.
And now I find myself in a position I never thought I'd find myself in: I recently accepted a paid position writing for an MMA website. RSC hooks me up with free figures, and I'm immensely grateful for that, but this is the first time where I can undoubtedly say that I'm getting cold hard cash for my feelings on MMA.
I don't want this to come off as corny, but that's honestly been one of my major dreams in life: to become a paid writer. So I guess this makes me a full-fledged MMA journalist.
So I guess the point of this post is just to thank everybody who I've made friends with, who have replied to and viewed my articles. You guys allowed me to get my foot in the door, to get my name out there, and it continues to pay off. So I'm very grateful.
I also want to throw out a cheap plug: if anyone is interested in viewing my articles, check out fighters.com. They'll be posted under my real name, Oliver Saenz. I'll be writing two articles per day for the foreseeable future, and since I've been given free reign, topics will range across the entire landscape of MMA.
So that's about it, guys. Thanks again!

Damn man that's f'n cool. That sounds like a dream job to me, I'd love to be involved in the MMA or wrestling world somehow. This also opens the door for many other huge opportunities down the line. We should hang out once, watch a PPV. lol

Thanks for all the warm wishes and congrats, guys. They mean a whole hell of a lot. I figured I'd turn this topic into a bit of an anthology topic, to further showcase my articles. Instead of making an individual topic every time a new article goes up, I'll just link them in this one topic. So, today my first UFC article was posted on fighters.com. In it, I examine the future of some of the big winners from UFC 116. Get it here, comments and feedback is always appreciated!

Got another one published today, if anyone's interested, it's my personal Top 5 of "dream matches" that I think still need to happen. Check it out here.

I agree 100% about Emelianenko/Couture.
Penn/St-Pierre III though....ehhhhh, I'd be horrified too see(as a huge Penn fan). Maybe after a St-Pierre loss(if ever).

PDW,
Just so you know, you can now write-off the cost of your PPV's against the income you get from writing. Make sure you take that as a deduction.

Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback, guys, it's very appreciated. When it comes to Penn/GSP 3, call me crazy, but I think Penn has it in him to beat GSP. I also think there was enough controversy behind Penn/GSP 2 to at least give some thought to a third encounter. With that said, here's a new article posted today where I examine the three men I feel will be the future of the UFC's Heavyweight division. Get it here.

Honestly man, I love your write-ups and I'm really happy for you that you're getting PAID to do what you love.
Keep up the amazing work and better things will follow.

Great article about the heavyweights PDW, agree wholeheartedly, especialyl about Velasquez and Dos Santos, the latter of whom impressed me mightily in his fight against Gabriel Gonzaga on UFC on Versus: Vera VS Jones. Very happy for you that you get paid to do what you love for a living, as well as getting free UFC figures! You lucky cobber! ;D

Three more articles today, one of which will probably get me smited and/or generate some controversy. But it's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it. Get all the articles here, here, and hereAlso, while it's not posted yet, here's one of my first responses to some of the backlash the article has garnered. I applaud most of you guys for keeping it civil, and I knew I’d get some controversy when this first started, so I’m not surprised to see it’s garnering a strong reaction. But no matter what, this is my opinion and I’m sticking to it. Like many other PRIDE veterans, Shogun’s years of hard-fought wars has aged his body prematurely. I can’t see how anyone could say he’s still in great condition when he’s going in for another MAJOR knee surgery. I know injuries happen all the time, but few of them are as life-changing as knee surgeries, and no matter how successful a surgery it is, there’s only so many times you can repair something before it can’t be repaired again. If you believe the rumors, Shogun is going to be out for almost a year rehabbing his knee. That is not the kind of injury you can just shrug off and say “it happens all the time”. That’s a serious injury that has the potential to seriously hinder a person’s career. I truly believe that if Shogun’s opponent takes the fight to him with constant takedowns and smart counter-punching (Rashad Evans, anyone?) that Shogun will once again gas out, have no idea what to do, and come out on the losing end. I’m not taking away anything from Shogun’s accomplishments in PRIDE, but the man is done. No matter what anyone else says, he absolutely will not be the one to break the mold of Light Heavyweight champions losing their titles in their first few fights, no matter how dominating he looked against Machida. Again I use the example of every Light Heavyweight Champion since Liddell looking absolutely beastly in their fights to get to and even win the title, only to lose it within one or two matches and look pretty horrible while losing.

Two more up today, one concerns my feelings on Nog/Mir 2 and the other concerns the UFC's recent victory over piracy. Get 'em here and here.

Interesting article about piracy there PDW, and I'd agree that some sort of incentive for those that do the right thing would be a good move...if this was to occur in Australia I'd like to think it would be done for the right reasons...
