Brock Lesnar will defend his heavyweight crown against unbeaten American Kickboxing Academy thoroughbred Cain Velasquez in the UFC 121 main event on Oct. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Lesnar confirmed the bout as signed via Twitter. MMAFighting.com on Friday was first to report the blockbuster matchup.
In just six professional fights, Lesnar has ascended to the top of the heavyweight division. A four-time collegiate All-American wrestler, he won a Div. I national championship at the University of Minnesota in 2000. Lesnar submitted the previously unbeaten Shane Carwin with a second-round arm-triangle choke in the UFC 116 headliner one week ago in Las Vegas, as he returned to the cage following a lengthy illness. Since entering mixed martial arts in 2007, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar has become the sport’s biggest box office draw. Lesnar holds other notable wins against UFC hall of famer Randy Couture, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Pride Fighting Championships veteran Heath Herring.
Velasquez has finished seven of his first eight foes, five of them inside one round. The 27-year-old last appeared at UFC 110 in February, when he blasted through beloved Brazilian Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a little more than two minutes. A junior college national champion, Velasquez was a two-time All-American wrestler at Arizona State University. Victories against French kickboxer Cheick Kongo and former International Fight League standout Ben Rothwell anchor his resume.
-Sherdog.
Awesome.

Can't wait to see this. I'm hoping Brock completely destroys Cain. While Cain has a good record and has beaten only a couple big names, he's yet to really win my respect and impress me. We'll see what happens in the Brock fight. If he pulls anything like Carwin did or even beats Brock he'll have my respect. I just see Brock going in there and having his way.

I'm looking forward to this one now that it's been officially announced, and hope Velasquez can pull off the win...

Cain's got this. He will succeed where Carwin failed and make Lesnar stand up and trade with him. And he will keep it cool when Lesnar turtles up and not punch himself out. War Velasquez!!!

who the hell would Ortiz face?
the one thing Tito does have in his favor is he hasn't ever really been knocked out cold. So if Liddell could have chance after chance even after being KNOCKED THE F*** OUT then I saw WTF, why not have Tito fight.
..the thing is though he isn't going to be fighting ANYONE in the top 10. Rampage, Thiago Silva, Machida, Rashad Evans, Lil Nog, etc will all smash him.
..the only matches I see him getting that he would be satisfied with is a third and final match with Forrest Griffin, Rich Franklin, or a match against Liddell after much convincing on Chuck's part.
other than that I would say Tito should face someone like Bones or Ryan Bader..but I know he wouldn't accept either fight since neither guy is a "name". I'm not badmouthing Jones either...Bones is the future and I think he would smash Tito, too...
the only fight that makes sense is Forrest or Chuck. I feel the second fight between the two was competitive enough up until the third round for me to be convinced that Tito has at least one more decent fight in him.

lol rampage is in your top ten. Really, you wouldn't include Rampage in your top 10 LHW in the UFC? I guess that's your opinion, but out of curiosity, who is in your Top 10?

Rampage is probably top 4-5 if you really think about it. Depending on how you rank Nog.
