Chael Sonnen is just some rando redneck man. He's a really good wrestler, but Silva is a master of BJJ, getting a black belt from the N brothers.
Im buying the fight, and if Silva loses I'll be shocked.
I loved when Silva said he had to google Sonnen to see who he was.

I'm gonna laugh if for some reason, Sonnen doesn't make weight.

Update: Alves still 171.5 on second try - will fight at that weight and forfeit 20% of his purse.
Hah.

I thought Fitch would probably win anyways.
That press conference from last night was awesome. As much as I want Silva to win...Sonnen is pretty funny.

Saunders, Struve, Hendricks, Boetsch, Davis, Hazelett, Dos Santos, Almeida, Guida, Fitch, Silva
So psyched for this card, hoping for Silva to redeem himself in unequivocal fashion.

Update: Alves still 171.5 on second try - will fight at that weight and forfeit 20% of his purse. Hah. Wow, eh?? I just don't understand how a fighter can not make weight. They've got all this time before-hand to train and drop the weight and yet, they still can't do it. I just don't get it. And this is the 2nd time that he hasn't made weight, right?? I believe it is. Geez, if he's having that hard of a time trying to make weight, then maybe that weightclass just isn't for him.

My predictions finally: UFC 117 ''SILVA VS. SONNEN'', 8/7/2010 (PPV/ESPN-UK) Oracle Arena, Oakland CA1. Welterweight bout: Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman 2. Heavyweight bout: Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft 3. Welterweight bout: Johny Hendricks vs. Charlie Brenneman4. Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Todd Brown 5. Light Heavyweight bout: Phil Davis vs. Rodney Wallace 6. Welterweight bout: Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story 7. Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Junior dos Santos8. Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida9. Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Rafael dos Anjos10. Catchweight (171.5 lb) bout: Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves 11. Middleweight Championship: Anderson Silva (c) vs. Chael Sonnen
- I really like Roy Nelson, I think he's great. It's just REALLY tough to choose against dos Santos right now. I really thought Gonzaga was going to be a real test for him, but he made it look easy. If there is some way Nelson can use his weight and get the fight to the ground, he has a real shot, but I see Junior catching him with a big shot for the win. - Hughes vs. Almeida is really a coin toss. Both guys are VERY good and very accomplished. It's really a tough call for me, as I train with Ricardo and have known him for years. I'm going to choose Almeida by submission, but I won't be surprised to see Hughes win this by decision. It'll definitely be a hard fight for both guys. Sucks I couldn't be there. - Guida/dos Anjos is an early candidate for fight of the night. Both guys are pretty aggressive and like to push the fight. Dos Anjos is a pretty high-level BJJ black belt under Aldo de Olivera, so I think this will need to pay off here. I see Guida getting submitted probably in the middle of the 2nd round. - Fitch/Alves is a great fight, but I still see Fitch doing what he always does to win. I don't see him being able to finish Alves, so obviously I am going with Fitch by decision. Maybe if Alves can stuff the takedowns, he may have a chance. I hope missing weight and being drained from cutting won't effect his performance. Shame he missed weight and now if he wins, he probably won't get the title shot, even though I think the winner of this should still fight the winner of Kampmann/Shields. - It's laughable that people are giving Sonnen a large chance to win. The way I see it, Sonnen has a 25% chance at winning and that's IF he can take Silva down. Silva has some of the most underrated takedown defense! Sonnen also has a BIG problem in all of his fights. He seems to go for the takedown and leave his head in the wrong place and gets caught in a guillotine. It has happened so many times in the past, and I can see it happening here. What I do indeed see happening is that Sonnen gets the takedown, Anderson gets guard and works his legs up for a triangle choke submission. 2nd round.

I'm really excited for tonight's show. I have a feeling that Sonnen is going to get a taste of the old Silva in the first round. At the end of the first he's going to know he's in for a fight.
